Abstract
<PICT:0789962/III/1> Lime is formed into nodules or agglomerates and introduced into a stream of hot gas to flow concurrently with and in suspension with the gas and to be preheated before being burnt. The average diameter of the nodules is not greater than 2 mms. and the hot gas may be that from the rotary kiln in which the burning occurs. As shown in the Figure, nodules pass from a noduliner 1 to a pipe 14 inserted in a riser pipe 6. Hot gases from a kiln 2 pass successively through a pipe 4, a cyclone 5, pipe 6 and cyclone 7 to an exhaust fan 3. The nodules fed through pipe 14 are entrained in the rising hot gas from the kiln in pipe 6, are disengaged in cyclone 7 and pass into pipe 15 inserted in pipe 4. Here they are again entrained and are then disengaged in cyclone 5 from the bottom of which they are fed to the kiln 2 by pipe 17.
