Abstract

Machine for wrapping horticultural produce. The machine is equipped with a feeding belt (2) on which the products (3), such as iceberg lettuces, are placed manually and aligned lengthwise with the stem pointing downwards a point on the belt (2) is crossed by an elevator (4) which is moved vertically and alternatively by an eccentric (5), the elevator (4)lifts the products (3) individually upwards and passes it through a series of annular elements (8, 9, 14, 15 and 16) between which the plastic sheet (10) in which the produce is to be wrapped passes horizontally and is split by a cutter (13). These annular elements force the segment of plastic sheeting to adapt to the shape of the surface of the produce (3) and one of them is also a diaphragm (14), which compresses the end of the plastic sheet over a point at the end of the produce (3), which corresponds to its stem. In this situation, after the produce has been turned through 180 degrees, it is placed under a cutter (17) which eliminates any surplus plastic material and whose cutting knife or knives are heated so that they act simultaneously as a welder which closes the plastic wrap by thermo-welding the folds on the actual edges made by the cut.
