- a window fittings system contains a number of functional components such as a lock, link arm, corner transmissions and connecting rails. These connecting rails are also referred to as rods.
- Typical in aluminium window systems is that along the contour of the leaf an undercut fitting groove is provided in which the rods are mounted and are able to slide.
- the rods transmit the movement of the operating mechanism from one component to the other.
- Some rods can be provided with a locking cam that can cooperate with a locking point on the fixed window, whereby in the close position of the crank the locking cam on the leaf hooks into or behind the locking point on the fixed frame to keep the window closed, whereas in the open position of the crank the locking cam is retracted out of or from behind the locking point by the sliding movement of the rod on which the locking cam is mounted to be able to open the window.
- the locking cams are mounted in the rod via drilled openings.
- a disadvantage is that such openings need to be provided in advance in the rod in the suitable positions of the locking cams.
- the rod can also be provided with openings in several optional positions in advance.

- the break-away zone is located on the level of a chamber in the rod, whereby the chamber is situated between the aforementioned legs of the rod, more specifically on the side of the rod which is oriented away from the opening of the groove in mounted condition.
- the break-away zone is provided with an elevation which extends in the chamber of the rod between the legs and whereby the elevation extends over the entire or practically entire depth of the chamber preventing, in mounted condition of the rod in a fitting groove, that a break-away zone is broken away in the event of a burglary attempt.
- Said elevation does indeed prevent the break-away zone from being pressed deeply, stopped by the base of the fitting groove in which the rod is slideably applied.
- the aforementioned chamber in the rod, after breaking away the break-away zone, is provided for receiving a socle which forms the base of the option to be mounted in the optional zone, whereby the option is formed by a protrusion of the socle that protrudes outwardly through the opening of the broken away zone.
- the option and the socle are separate from each other initially, such that the base can be used for different options.
- the chamber or the socle is provided with plastically deformable ribs which are configured such that the option, at least temporarily, is held in place when sliding the rod into a window leaf.
- the socle of the option extends in the chamber of the rod over the entire or practically entire depth of the chamber, which prevents unintentionally breaking away the option.
- the invention also relates to a method for mounting a rod and an option, the method comprising the following steps: a) breaking away the break-away zone or opening in which the option needs to be mounted, b) pushing the option through the opening, and c) sliding the rod into a fitting groove of the leaf.
- One advantage is that no openings are visible in locations where no extra options or locking cams are necessary. An opening in the rod can indeed be a possible point of attack for a burglar.
- the optional zone cannot be broken away after mounting, that fewer different components are required due to the modularity and that it is not necessary to measure where an opening needs to be made. Further, no special tools or even any tools are necessary for breaking away the optional zone.
- the rod shown in figures 1 to 5 has a substantially vaulted form with a substantially U-shaped cross-section as seen best in figure 5 .

- the socle 9b is configured to hold the option 9 in place and under load transfer the forces to the rod 1 and the fitting groove 5.
- the chamber 10 and/or the socle 9b are provided with deformable ribs 19 which are configured such that the option 9, at least temporarily, is held in place when sliding the rod 1 into a window leaf and thus cannot detach from the rod in this way.
- the transverse ribs 11 extend over the entire or practically entire depth A of the chamber 10, such that in the mounted condition of the option, as shown in figures 12 and 13 , there is no or little range of movement between the option and the base 17 of the fitting groove 5 to push the option 9 out of the opening 18 of the rod 1 in the event of a burglary attempt.
- An optional zone 8 is mounted as follows: The break-away zone 12, in which the option 9 is mounted, is torn out. This could be done easily by means of a classic tool to make a turning, pushing or tilting movement, but can also be done by lightly bending the rod 1 while exercising pressure on the optional zone with a finger.
- the protruding section 9a of the option 9 is subsequently pushed through the opening 18 in such a way that the section 9a comes through the opening and the socle 9b of the option 9 falls in the underlying chamber 10.
- the socle 9b is temporarily held in place with small ribs 19 which elastically and/or plastically deform when pushing the socle 9b in the chamber 10 by exerting light force.
- the rod 1 together with the option 9 can be slid into the fitting groove 5 without any risk of the option falling out during mounting.
