Definitions
- the invention relates to an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel system.
- the invention also relates to an annular rotating bezel system comprising the retaining ring.
- the invention also relates to a watch case comprising a middle part and the annular rotating bezel system rotatably mounted on the middle part.
- the invention further relates to a watch comprising the watch case.
- the watch is for example a diver's watch, without this being limiting in the context of the present invention
- annular rotating bezel systems are provided with an annular ring for holding the system, intended to cooperate with a cylindrical outer surface of a watch case middle to allow rotation of the rotating bezel on the middle.
- annular ring for holding a rotating bezel system is for example described in the patent document EP 2 672 333 A1 .
- the annular ring is a flat ring provided with an internal flange comprising a peripheral projection.
- the peripheral projection cooperates with an annular protrusion of an outer wall of the middle part to hold the rotating bezel system vertically on the middle part, and serves as a means for guiding the rotating bezel in rotation around the middle part.
- annular ring does not provide a good braking torque between the rotating bezel and the outer wall of the caseband.
- the meshing of the various elements of the system produces an unpleasant noise for a user, detrimental to the qualitative feeling of the quality of the fitted watch that the user may have.
- Other annular retaining rings known to slow down the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle and dampen the sound are disclosed in the documents EP0436468 A1 And EP2624076A1 .
- the object of the invention is therefore to provide an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel making it possible to guarantee a good braking torque between the rotating bezel and the outer wall of the middle part and to control the noise produced during the rotation of the bezel, while maintaining good guidance in rotation of the rotating bezel around the caseband.
- the invention relates to an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel system which comprises the characteristics as claimed in claims 1 and 2.
- a first advantage of the present invention is to ensure a good braking torque between the rotating bezel and the outer wall of the caseband. Indeed, thanks to the presence of the means configured to slow down the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle part and to dampen the sound, the various clearances inside the rotating bezel system are smoothed out, so that the user the telescope does not feel them.
- the torque of rotation of the bezel is also controlled, making it softer and the bezel more pleasant to handle.
- the noise produced by the rotation of the bezel is damped and gives the user an impression of the quality of the bezel system and more generally of the watch equipped with this system.
- annular ring makes it possible to maintain the spring means and the toothed ring in the rotating bezel, thus facilitating the mounting of the rotating bezel on the middle part.
- the annular ring comprises on one periphery an alternation between tongues of a first group of tongues and tongues of a second group of tongues, the tongues of the first group and the tongues of the second group having dimensions, in the radial direction, differentiated, the tongues of one of the first and second groups of tongues forming the said means for guiding in rotation, the tongues of the other of the first and second groups of tongues forming the said means of braking and sound dampening.
- the tabs of the first group have dimensions in the radial direction that are smaller than those of the tabs of the second group, the tabs of the first group forming said means for guiding in rotation, the tabs of the second group being made up segments that are more flexible than the tabs of the first group, said segments being capable of flexing axially and forming said braking and sound damping means. Thanks to the axial flexibility of the tongues of the second group, these can ensure a braking of the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle part by friction against the cylindrical outer surface, as well as a damping of the sound produced.
- the tongues of the first and second groups are separated from each other by indentations. This makes it possible in particular to improve the flexibility of the tongues of the second group of tongues.
- the first and second groups of tongues each comprise six tongues, the tongues of the first and second groups being distributed over 360°, the tongues of the same group of tongues being spaced two by two of 60°.
- the annular ring comprises on an inner or outer periphery a set of bosses, said bosses forming said braking and sound damping means.
- the bosses are arranged on an inner periphery of the ring to cooperate with a cylindrical outer surface of the middle part, the annular ring being intended to be secured to the rotating bezel.
- the bosses are arranged on an outer periphery of the ring to cooperate with an inner surface of the rotating bezel, the annular ring being intended to be secured to the middle part.
- the annular ring comprises a set of oblong slots, each oblong slot being made in the thickness of the annular ring facing one of said bosses, the thickness being measured in an axial direction perpendicular to a plane in which the ring extends. This makes it possible to confer on each boss a radial flexibility in the plane in which the ring extends.
- the annular ring comprises six bosses distributed over 360°, the bosses being spaced apart in pairs by 60°. This further improves the braking and noise dampening, in particular by further reducing play within the system and making the torque even smoother.
- the annular ring is formed from a single piece of material consisting of a plastic material, in particular PTFE, ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene (Tefzel ® ), and polyoxymethylene (Delrin ® ) if necessary coated with a layer improve the coefficient of friction.
- a plastic material in particular PTFE, ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene (Tefzel ® ), and polyoxymethylene (Delrin ® ) if necessary coated with a layer improve the coefficient of friction.
- Tefzel ® ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene
- Delrin ® polyoxymethylene

- the annular rotating bezel system 6 rests on the base 12b.
- the rotating bezel system 6 is thus mounted on the middle part 4, from above the latter, allowing the system 6 to be blocked in an axial direction perpendicular to the plane of the watch movement, while allowing rotation of the bezel around the middle part. 4.
- the configuration of the watch case is substantially circular.
- the middle part can be made of metal, typically steel, titanium, gold , platinum or ceramic typically based on alumina, zirconia or silicon nitride.
- the annular rotating bezel system 6 comprises a rotating bezel 14, an annular retaining ring 16, a toothed ring 18 and spring means 20.

- the decorative ring 22 is for example made of ceramic.
- the rotating bezel 14 is annular in shape and comprises an upper face 23a visible by the user and a lower face 23b. As illustrated on the figure 1 And 3 , the rotating bezel 14 is for example provided on an inner periphery with an annular rim 24. The annular rim 24 cooperates by clipping with the protuberance 13 of the middle part 4, and forms with the latter a free hooking system.
- the rotating bezel 14 is for example made of metal but could be made of any other material, for example ceramic.
- the annular ring 16 holds the toothed ring 18 and the spring means 20 in the bezel 14, in an axial direction perpendicular to the plane of the watch movement. This makes it easier to mount the rotating bezel 14 on the middle part 4.
- the annular ring 16 is driven into the rotating bezel 14, securing it to the latter.
- the annular ring 16 is secured to the middle part 4.
- the annular ring 16 rests on the base 12b of the middle part 4, and thus surrounds the cylindrical outer surface 8 of the middle part 4.
- the annular ring 16 is configured to cooperate with the cylindrical outer surface 8 to allow rotation of the rotating bezel 14 on middle 4.
- the annular ring 16 comprises means 26 for guiding the rotating bezel 14 in rotation around the middle part 4, and means 28 configured to slow the rotation of the rotating bezel 14 around the middle part 4 and to dampen the sound.
- the annular ring 16 is for example formed from a single piece of material consisting of a plastic material, in particular PTFE, ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene (Tefzel ® ), or polyoxymethylene (Delrin ® ) if necessary coated with a layer to improve the coefficient of friction.
- the annular ring 16 is for example of generally rectangular section.
- the annular ring 16 comprises on an inner periphery an alternation between tongues 30a of a first group of tongues, and tongues 30b of a second group of tongues.
- the tongues 30a of the first group and the tongues 30b of the second group are in contact with the cylindrical outer surface 8 of the middle part 4.
- Such tongues 30a, 30b limit the passage of dirt inside the rotating bezel system 6.
- the tabs 30a of the first group and the tabs 30b of the second group are arranged on an outer periphery of the annular ring 16 and are in contact with an inner surface of the rotating bezel 14.
- the first and second groups of tongues each comprise six tongues 30a, 30b, distributed over the inner periphery of the ring 16 over 360°.
- the tongues of the same group of tongues are thus spaced two by two by 60°, the tongues 30a, 30b of the first and second groups of tongues being alternated.
- the tongues 30a of the first group and the tongues 30b of the second group have dimensions, in the radial direction, which are differentiated.
- the tongues 30a of the first group of tongues have dimensions in the radial direction smaller than those of the tongues 30b of the second group of tongues, and form the means for guiding in rotation 26.
- the radial distance D1 separating the tongues 30a of the first group of tongues from the center of the ring 16 is greater than the radial distance D2 separating the tongues 30b of the second group of tongues from the center of the ring 16.
- the tabs 30b of the second group of tabs form the sound braking and damping means 28. More specifically, the tabs 30b of the second group of tabs are made up of more flexible segments than the tabs 30a of the first group. Such segments are able to bend in an axial direction perpendicular to the plane of the watch movement.
- a particular embodiment shown in figure 1 And 4 consists in that the tongues 30a of the first group and the tongues 30b of the second group have differentiated thicknesses, the thickness being measured in the axial direction perpendicular to the plane of the watch movement.
- the tongues 30b of the second group have a thickness less than that of the tongues 30a of the first group, thus giving them greater flexibility. Thanks to the axial flexibility of the tongues 30b of the second group, these can ensure a braking of the rotation of the rotating bezel 14 around the middle part 4 by friction against the cylindrical outer surface 8, as well as a damping of the sound produced.
- the tongues 30a, 30b of the first and second groups are separated from each other by indentations 32. This makes it possible in particular to improve the flexibility of the tongues 30b of the second group of tongues.
- the tongues 30a, 30b of the first and second groups of tongues extend angularly over a substantially equal angular sector S1.
- the annular ring 16 no longer comprises tabs but comprises, on an inner periphery, a set of bosses 33.
- the bosses 33 are in contact with the cylindrical outer surface 8 of the middle part 4 and form the braking and damping means sound 28.
- Such bosses 33 act radially in a plane in which the ring 16 extends, and not perpendicular to this plane like the tongues 30a, 30b of the first embodiment.
- the bosses 33 are arranged on an outer periphery of the annular ring 16 and are in contact with an inner surface of the rotating bezel 14.
- the rotation guide means 26 consist of the rest of the inner periphery of the ring 16, between the bosses 33.
- the ring 16 comprises six bosses 33, distributed over the inner periphery of the ring 16 over 360°.
- the bosses 33 are thus spaced two by two by 60°.
- the ring 16 preferably comprises a set of oblong slots 35. As illustrated in the figures 5a and 5b , each oblong slot 35 is formed in the thickness of the annular ring 16 facing one of the bosses 33. In the example of achievement of figures 5a and 5b , the ring 16 thus comprises six oblong slots 35, distributed over 360°. The oblong slots 35 are thus spaced two by two by 60°.
- the braking of the rotation of the bezel 14 by the means 28 has the advantage of smoothing out the various clearances inside the system so that the user of the bezel does not feel them, as well as controlling the rotation torque of the bezel by making it softer.
- the braking and sound damping means 28 make it possible to reduce the noise produced by the rotation of the bezel and therefore to improve the user experience.
- the toothed ring 18 comprises several teeth, for example 120 teeth, equally distributed over its outer periphery over 360°.
- the toothed ring 18 also has, on its inner periphery, at least one lug 34 received in a notch 36 provided in the cylindrical outer surface 8 of the middle part 4.
- the toothed ring 18 comprises three lugs 34 distributed over 360° and spaced two by two by 120°.
- the cylindrical outer surface 8 of the caseband 4 comprises three corresponding indentations 36. This lugs 34 / notches 36 system allows easy angular attachment of the toothed ring 18 to the middle part 4, while facilitating the positioning of the toothed ring 18 on the middle part 4.
- This system also makes it possible to guide the rotating bezel system 6 for its mounting on the middle part 4.
- the lugs 34 are engaged in the notches 36, making it possible to snap the elements inside the system 6 and to clip the system 6 on the build 4.
- the toothed ring 18 is formed from a single piece of material.
- the toothed ring 18 is for example made of a metal alloy, in particular a cobalt-based alloy (40% Co, 20% Cr, 16% Ni and. 7% Mo) commercially called phynox or steel typically a stainless steel, for example 316L.
- the toothed ring 18 may be made of a thermoplastic material, in particular a thermostable semi-crystalline thermoplastic material such as for example polyarylamide (Ixef ® ), polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or even a ceramic material (zirconia or alumina).
- the spring means 20 cooperate elastically with the toothed ring 18.
- the spring means 20 consist of a spring ring.
- the toothed ring 18 is arranged to fit into the spring ring 20, that is to say that the toothed ring 18 is sized to be able to be placed in the spring ring 20.
- the toothed ring 18 and the spring ring 20 are concentric and coplanar, and are held between the lower face 23b of the bezel 14 and an upper face of the retaining ring 16.
- the spring ring 20 comprises at least one thinned portion 38 having at least one tooth 40 elastically and radially in engagement with the toothed ring 18.
- the spring ring 20 comprises three thinned portions 38 distributed over 360°, each thinned portion 38 having a tooth 40 arranged in a middle part of the thinned portion 38.
- the three thinned portions 38 are spaced apart in pairs by 120°.
- Spring ring 20 extends in a plane in which it is capable of elastically deforming along a radius.
- the thinned portions 38 are arranged to increase the flexibility of the spring ring 20 in its plane.
- each tooth 40 is in contact with the toothed ring 18 so that there is a rest position in which each tooth 40 is located in a hollow between two teeth of the toothed ring 18.
- the spring ring 20 elastically deforms in its plane, allowing the teeth 40 to disengage from the hollows of the toothed ring 18 and to re-engage in an adjacent tooth of the toothed ring 18.
- the bezel 14 then effectively rotates by a sector corresponding angle, to a new position.
- the thinned portions 38 are thinned radially.
- the spring ring 20 has, on its outer periphery, at least one notch 42 in which a lug of the bezel 14 is engaged.
- the spring ring 20 comprises three indentations 42 distributed over 360° and spaced two by two by 120°
- the rotating bezel 14 comprises three corresponding lugs on an internal side face.

- the teeth 40 and the notches 42 form an alternation on the spring ring 20 , evenly distributed over 360°.
- This system lugs / notches 42 makes it possible to easily connect the spring ring 20 to the rotating bezel 14 in rotation, while facilitating the positioning of the spring ring 20 in the bezel 14.
- the spring ring 20 is formed from a single piece of material.
- the spring ring 20 is for example made of a metal alloy, having good spring properties, that is to say which deforms easily elastically while being able to deform significantly without undergoing plastic deformation, in particular phynox ® or amorphous metal alloys.
- the spring ring 20 can also, as a variant, be made of a synthetic material.

Description
The invention relates to an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel system.
The invention also relates to an annular rotating bezel system comprising the retaining ring.
The invention also relates to a watch case comprising a middle part and the annular rotating bezel system rotatably mounted on the middle part.
The watch is for example a diver's watch, without this being limiting in the context of the present invention
The object of the invention is therefore to provide an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel making it possible to guarantee a good braking torque between the rotating bezel and the outer wall of the middle part and to control the noise produced during the rotation of the bezel, while maintaining good guidance in rotation of the rotating bezel around the caseband.
To this end, the invention relates to an annular retaining ring for a rotating bezel system which comprises the characteristics as claimed in
A first advantage of the present invention is to ensure a good braking torque between the rotating bezel and the outer wall of the caseband. Indeed, thanks to the presence of the means configured to slow down the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle part and to dampen the sound, the various clearances inside the rotating bezel system are smoothed out, so that the user the telescope does not feel them. The torque of rotation of the bezel is also controlled, making it softer and the bezel more pleasant to handle. In addition, the noise produced by the rotation of the bezel is damped and gives the user an impression of the quality of the bezel system and more generally of the watch equipped with this system.
In addition, the annular ring makes it possible to maintain the spring means and the toothed ring in the rotating bezel, thus facilitating the mounting of the rotating bezel on the middle part.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, the annular ring comprises on one periphery an alternation between tongues of a first group of tongues and tongues of a second group of tongues, the tongues of the first group and the tongues of the second group having dimensions, in the radial direction, differentiated, the tongues of one of the first and second groups of tongues forming the said means for guiding in rotation, the tongues of the other of the first and second groups of tongues forming the said means of braking and sound dampening. An advantage of this first embodiment is that it limits the passage of dirt inside the rotating bezel system, thanks to the presence of the various tongues which block such dirt.
Advantageously, according to this first embodiment, the tabs of the first group have dimensions in the radial direction that are smaller than those of the tabs of the second group, the tabs of the first group forming said means for guiding in rotation, the tabs of the second group being made up segments that are more flexible than the tabs of the first group, said segments being capable of flexing axially and forming said braking and sound damping means. Thanks to the axial flexibility of the tongues of the second group, these can ensure a braking of the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle part by friction against the cylindrical outer surface, as well as a damping of the sound produced.
Advantageously again, according to this first embodiment, the tongues of the first and second groups are separated from each other by indentations. This makes it possible in particular to improve the flexibility of the tongues of the second group of tongues.
Advantageously again, according to this first embodiment, the first and second groups of tongues each comprise six tongues, the tongues of the first and second groups being distributed over 360°, the tongues of the same group of tongues being spaced two by two of 60°. This makes it possible to further improve braking and noise damping, in particular by further reducing the play inside the system and making the torque even smoother.
According to a second embodiment of the invention, the annular ring comprises on an inner or outer periphery a set of bosses, said bosses forming said braking and sound damping means. An advantage of this second embodiment is that the bosses act radially in a plane in which the ring extends, and not perpendicular to this plane like the tongues of the first embodiment. Thanks to the radial flexibility of the bosses, they can ensure braking of the rotation of the rotating bezel around the middle part by friction against the middle part or the bezel, as well as a damping of the sound produced. In a first variant of this second embodiment, the bosses are arranged on an inner periphery of the ring to cooperate with a cylindrical outer surface of the middle part, the annular ring being intended to be secured to the rotating bezel. In a second variant of this second embodiment, the bosses are arranged on an outer periphery of the ring to cooperate with an inner surface of the rotating bezel, the annular ring being intended to be secured to the middle part.
Advantageously, according to this second embodiment, the annular ring comprises a set of oblong slots, each oblong slot being made in the thickness of the annular ring facing one of said bosses, the thickness being measured in an axial direction perpendicular to a plane in which the ring extends. This makes it possible to confer on each boss a radial flexibility in the plane in which the ring extends.
Advantageously again, according to this second embodiment, the annular ring comprises six bosses distributed over 360°, the bosses being spaced apart in pairs by 60°. This further improves the braking and noise dampening, in particular by further reducing play within the system and making the torque even smoother.
Advantageously, the annular ring is formed from a single piece of material consisting of a plastic material, in particular PTFE, ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene (Tefzel ® ), and polyoxymethylene (Delrin ® ) if necessary coated with a layer improve the coefficient of friction. This material has the advantage of having a good flexibility/rigidity compromise, allowing the tongues of the first group of tongues and the tongues of the second group of tongues to have the desired elastic and mechanical properties.
