Description

The invention relates to an electrical connector having the features of the preamble of claim 1. The invention is particularly intended for releasable electrical connections for voltages of over 1,000 volts and currents of a few hundred amperes. The connector can also be used instead of cable lugs or screw connections.

The patent US 5,769,671 discloses an electrical connector as described in the preamble of claim 1.

The patent DE 623 128 discloses an electrical connector with a pin-shaped plug and a sleeve-shaped coupling, which surrounds the plug with an annular gap in the plugged state, ie plugged into the connector plug. In the intermediate space, a stack of flat or disc-shaped contact elements is arranged, which consist of electrically conductive material, in particular of metal. In one embodiment, the contact elements of sheet metal punched perforated discs with an inner annulus in the middle and two circular-arc spring arms that surround the annulus with a radial distance. One ends of the spring arms are free, at the other ends, the spring arms go over in one piece into the inner annulus. The spring arms lie with bias on the inside of the sleeve-shaped coupling and act on the inner annulus elastically resiliently radially, so that the circular ring rests eccentrically in the coupling. The stacked arranged in the sleeve-shaped coupling contact elements are alternately arranged rotated by 180 ° to each other, so that their inner rings are arranged alternately opposite eccentric in the coupling. The plug, which has a slightly smaller diameter than the rings of the contact elements, centers the inner rings of the contact elements, so that they rest elastically resiliently on the plug. In this way, the spring arms of the disk-shaped contact elements of the known electrical connector build a contact pressure on both the sleeve-shaped coupling and the pin-shaped connector, which ensures a reliable electrically conductive connection of the connector with the coupling via the contact elements.

In a second embodiment, the contact elements of the known electrical connector are bent from wire, they have an open, d. H. interrupted at one point inner ring, which is bent at the sides of the opening of the ring by 180 ° outwards to circular-arc spring arms which surround the broken inner ring with a radial distance outside.

The object of the invention is to propose an electrical connector of the type described above, the contact elements are better secured against mechanical overload.

This object is solved by the features of claim 1. The electrical connector according to the invention has a pin-shaped plug and a sleeve-shaped coupling, which surrounds the plug with clearance in the plugged state, ie plugged into the connector plug. In the intermediate space, an electrically conductive contact element is arranged, which has the shape of an open, ie interrupted at one point ring. In the circumferential direction, the contact element extends over more than 180 °, in particular it extends over almost the full circumference and has only a small opening. The contact element springs transversely to a direction of insertion of the plug into the coupling, which is synonymous with a plugging of the coupling on the plug. In the inserted state, the contact element is elastically resilient and thereby with a bias both inside the plug and on the outside of the coupling and thus connects the plug and the coupling electrically conductive with each other.

The contact element according to the invention has cusps projecting inwards and outwards, by which is meant a protrusion protruding inwards or outwards over a generatrix. When plugged in, the cusps projecting inwards are in contact with the plug. Due to the bias of the resilient contact element, the protruding inwardly projecting bumps with a bias on the plug. In this way, the invention achieves a reliable, good electrical connection between the plug and the contact element with low electrical resistance.

The protruding outward from the contact element bumps are not on the sleeve, but there is a gap between the outwardly protruding humps of the contact element and the clutch, even when plugged into the connector plug. In the sleeve-shaped coupling, the contact element is located at a location other than the protruding outwardly projecting bumps to electrically connect the contact element with the coupling. The protruding humps secure the contact element against mechanical overstress. The protruding outward humps limit deformation of the resilient contact element to the outside and prevent in this way a plastic deformation and a break in a continuous load. The contact element is mechanically stressed by vibrations, for example when driving, or by misalignment of the plug in the clutch, d. H. a radial and / or angular offset.

Preferably, the plug and the coupling have a circular cross-section and the contact element in the form of an interrupted annulus. The circular cross section of the plug and the coupling applies to a plug-in area, ie the area in which the contact element is in the plugged state. For the coupling the circular cross-section refers to an inner circumference, outside the coupling does not have to be circular. Other Cross-sectional and annular shapes, for example a round, but not circular, for example elliptical or oval cross-section, or a polygonal cross-section or a cross-section with arcuate and straight sections are not provided per se, but also not excluded.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the connector has a plurality of stacked contact elements. The contact elements are arranged adjacent to one another in the insertion direction of the plug in the coupling one behind the other. It is also conceivable an arrangement of the contact elements at a distance from each other. The contact elements can be arranged congruent or mutually rotated. Multiple contact elements increase a maximum possible current through the connector and reduce electrical resistance between the plug and the coupling.

An embodiment of the invention provides transverse supports of the plug in the coupling on both sides of the contact element. In the inserted state, the plug is supported between an opening and the contact element and between a free end of the plug and the contact element in the transverse direction in the coupling. The transverse supports can be designed in the manner of sockets. They hold the plug in an intended position aligned in the coupling. They avoid relative movements between the plug and the coupling transversely to the direction of insertion and thereby counteract a radial and an angular offset of the plug in the coupling. This measure also serves to secure the contact element against mechanical overload and is suitable for improving the electrical connection between the plug and the coupling by ensuring, as already stated, the intended position of the plug in the coupling.

An embodiment of the invention provides that the inwardly projecting bumps are arranged offset to a median plane of the annular contact element. The bumps are offset to the same side of the median plane, preferably in the direction of the open position of the annular contact element. Due to the resilient installation of the contact element on the plug causing the Placed center plane offset, inwardly projecting hump a radial force which acts on the contact element transversely in one direction. The contact element is thereby pressed into an intended position on the plug and in the coupling.

The protruding outward cusps are arranged in an embodiment of the invention, the inwardly projecting protuberances opposite to support the contact element at the points against mechanical overload in the sleeve-shaped coupling, where the plug exerts a force on the contact element.

Preferably, the contact element has two outer and two inner bumps.

In principle, the contact element can be arranged on the plug. Preferably, it is arranged in the coupling, wherein the arrangement of the contact element on the plug or in the coupling refers to a disconnected state, because in the inserted state, the contact element is arranged both on the plug and in the coupling.

The inventive electrical connector 1 shown in the drawing has a cylindrical pin-shaped plug 2 and a sleeve-shaped cylindrical coupling 3. The plug 2 has at a free front end a cylindrical support portion 4, then a frusto-conical expansion portion 5 and then to this again a cylindrical contact portion 6. At the end of the contact portion 6, the plug 2 has a radial flange 7, from which a hollow cylindrical collar 8 projects in the direction of the free end of the plug 2. The collar 8 encloses the contact portion 6 with a radial annular space, the collar 8 is lower in the axial direction than the contact portion 6 is long. At the flange 7, a cable connection 9 connects to connect the plug 2 with a cable, not shown, or other current conductor. The cable can be connected in a conventional manner by welding, crimping, crimping, screw terminals, etc. to the plug 2, the formation of the cable connection 9 is not essential to the invention.

Following an opening, the receiving space 10 of the coupling 3 has a contact portion 11 which tapers with an annular support step 12 to a cylindrical intermediate portion 13, which in turn with an annular step 14 to a cylindrical support portion 15 at the end of the receiving space formed as a blind hole 10 rejuvenated. At an end facing away from the mouth, the coupling 3 has a cable connection 16 for connection to a cable, not shown, or another electrical conductor, such as the plug 2. On the configuration of the cable connection 16 is not important for the invention.

At the mouth, the coupling 3 tapers externally with an annular step to a cylindrical collar 17 whose outer diameter coincides with an inner diameter of the collar 8 of the plug 2. A diameter of the support portion 4 of the plug 2 coincides with an inner diameter of the support portion 15 of the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3. In plugged Condition, ie, when the plug 2 is inserted into the coupling 3, which is synonymous with a plug of the coupling 3 on the plug 2, the support portion 4 of the plug 2 are in the support portion 15 of the clutch 3 and the collar 17 of the clutch 3 in Collar 8 of the plug 2. Both the two collars 8, 17 and the two support portions 4, 15 are precisely to each other, so that the plug 2 is aligned coaxially in the coupling 3. The support portions 4 of the plug 2 and 15 of the coupling 3 form a transverse support, and also the collar 17 of the coupling 3 and the collar 8 of the plug 2, the plug 2, when it is plugged into the coupling 3, transversely or radially in the clutch 3 is supported, ie the connector 2 and the clutch 3 coaxially aligned and keeps aligned. A misalignment, so a transverse or radial offset and an angular offset of the connector 2 to the clutch 3 by the transverse supports 4, 15; 8, 17 avoided.

The intermediate portion 13 of the receiving space 10 of the coupling 3 has a slightly larger diameter than the contact portion 6 of the plug 2, there is no contact of the contact portion 6 of the plug 2 with the intermediate portion 13 of the receiving space 10 of the coupling 3 is provided, in the inserted state in the intermediate section 13 is immersed. However, such a contact is harmless.

The contact portion 11 of the receiving space 10 of the coupling 3 has a larger diameter than the contact portion 6 of the plug 2, so that there is an annular gap 18 between the coupling 3 and the plug 2 when the plug 2 is inserted into the coupling 3. In the contact portion 11 in the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3 is a stack, ie axially successively arranged, electrically conductive contact elements 19. The contact elements 19 can also be considered as slats. One of the contact elements 19 is in FIG. 3 to see in view. The contact elements 19 are punched flat sheet metal annular disks, they are almost, in the embodiment, however, not exactly, circular. The contact elements 19 have at one point of their circumference an opening 20, that is, they have the shape of broken Rings. On both sides of the opening 20, the contact elements 19 on protruding projections 21 on the outside. The same projections 22 have the contact elements 19 of the opening 20 opposite. The contact elements 19 are elastic, they spring in the radial direction, ie transversely to a direction of insertion of the plug 2 in the clutch 3. In the contact portion 11 of the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3, which holds the contact elements 19 in the manner of a version, the contact elements 19 are elastic radially compressed, so that their projections 21, 22 resiliently bear against the contact portion 11 of the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3 with a bias inside. In this way results in a good electrical connection between the coupling 3 and the contact elements 19 with low electrical resistance.

On their insides, the contact elements 19 have two inwardly projecting and here as bumps 23 projections which are located approximately in a middle between the outwardly projecting projections 21 on the opening 20 and the opposing, outwardly projecting projections 22 of the contact elements 19 , As mentioned, the inwardly projecting bumps 23 are not exactly in the middle, but they are slightly offset in the direction of the opening 20. The offset of the bumps 23 from a median plane in the direction of the opening 20 of the contact elements 19 in the example shown is approximately between 10 and 15 °.

A arranged in the mouth of the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3 and fixed orifice plate 25 holds the contact elements 19 in the contact portion 11 of the receiving space 10 of the coupling third

The transverse supports of the plug 2 in the coupling 3, which are formed by the support sections 4, 15 and the collars 8, 17 of the plug 2 and the coupling 3, are located on both sides of the contact elements 19, ie axially in front of and behind the contact elements 19th

When plugging the plug 2 into the coupling 3, first the support portion 4 of the plug 2 passes through the contact elements 19, then spreads or widens the frustoconical expansion portion 5 of the plug 2, the contact elements 19 elastically and then passes the cylindrical contact portion 6 of the plug. 2 between the contact elements 19. The contact elements 19 abut with their inwardly projecting bumps 23 on the plug 2, so that their approximately semicircular arc-shaped portions between the opposite, outwardly projecting projections 21, 22 are pressed elastically outward. The approximately semicircular arcs between the opposing protrusions 21, 22 projecting outward from the contact elements 19 are pressed approximately elastically outwards by the plug 2 in their centers, namely where the inwardly projecting protuberances 23 are located. The bumps 23 are therefore with a bias on the contact portion 6 of the plug 2, whereby a good electrical conductive connection between the contact elements 19 and the plug 2 is ensured with low electrical resistance.

Aufgrund ihres Versatz in Richtung der Öffnung 20 der Kontaktelemente 19 und der Vorspannung, mit der die nach innen abstehenden Höcker 23 der Kontaktelemente 19 am Stecker 2 anliegen, wirkt eine Radialkraft quer zum Stecker 2, die die Kontaktelemente 19 in eine definierte Lage zum Stecker 2 drückt; die Kontaktelemente 19 liegen ihrer Öffnung 20 gegenüber am Kontaktabschnitt 6 des Steckers 2 an.Due to their offset in the direction of the opening 20 of the contact elements 19 and the bias with which the inwardly projecting bumps 23 of the contact elements 19 abut the plug 2, a radial force acts transversely to the plug 2, the contact elements 19 in a defined position to the plug. 2 suppressed; the contact elements 19 are located opposite to their opening 20 at the contact portion 6 of the plug 2.

The inwardly projecting bumps 23 opposite to the contact elements 19, two outwardly projecting bumps 24, so also protruding outward projections. The protruding outward bumps 24 of the contact elements 19 are not applied to the coupling 3, between them there is a gap d, even if the plug 2 is inserted into the coupling 3, that is, the contact portion 6 of the plug 2 is in the contact elements 19 and they on the inwardly projecting humps 23 elastically presses outward. The gap d is in FIG. 2 drawn exaggeratedly large, it is a few 1/100 mm, for example about 5/100 mm at a diameter of the contact portion 6 of the connector 2 of 8 mm. For larger or smaller diameters, the gap d increases or decreases, but not necessarily proportional. Also, it is not excluded that the gap d at different diameters of the contact portion 6 of the connector 2 is the same size. The protruding outwardly projecting bumps 24 limit by conditioning on the contact portion 11 of the receiving space 10 of the clutch 3 a maximum possible deformation of the contact elements 19. The gap d is chosen so narrow that a plastic deformation of the contact elements 19 is excluded. Also prevent the protruding outward bumps 24 of the contact elements 19 breakage or other damage to the contact elements 19 at a continuous load, for example, as a result of acting on the connector 1 vibrations such as may occur when driving a motor vehicle, especially if the clutch 3 or the plug 2 is fixed rigidly without damping on the motor vehicle.
