Bei dem Verfahren zum Umhüllen eines Stück- oder Packgutes mit einem zumindest in etwa haubenförmigen elastischen Folienabschnitt, der durch Raffen in Falten gelegt und gestreckt und anschließend über das Stück- oder Packgut gezogen wird, wobei der geraffte Folienabschnitt mittels einer entlang des Stück- oder Packgutes verfahrbaren Überzieheinrichtung gestreckt und über das Stück- oder Packgut übergezogen wird, kann erfindungsgemäß die Überzieheinrichtung vier in der zur Überziehrichtung senkrechten Ebene bewegbare Spannfinger aufweisen, die jeweils ein im Wesentlichen sich in dieser Ebene erstreckendes bügelförmiges Spannelement und ein daran befestigtes bogenförmiges, sowie im Wesentlichen in Überziehrichtung weisend sich erstreckendes Stützelement aufweisen, um den gerafften Folienabschnitt in den jeweils den Ecken des zu umhüllenden Stück- oder Packgutes entsprechenden Bereichen aufzunehmen und dann über das Stück- und Packgut überzuziehen, wobei zumindest an einem Spannfinger eine von außen zumindest im Bereich der dem Stück- oder Packgut kurz vor Erreichen der Überziehposition am entferntesten befindlichen, über das Stück- oder Packgut überzuziehenden Falte, insbesondere im an diese Falte angrenzenden ungefalteten Bereich des Folienabschnittes, an den Folienabschnitt anlegbare, backenähnliche und den Eckbereich des Spannfingers zumindest teilweise umgreifende Fixiereinrichtung zur klemmenden Fixierung des entsprechenden Bereiches des Folienabschnittes auf den Spannfingern beim Strecken vorgesehen ist, wobei wenigstens eine Fixiereinrichtung vor dem Strecken des Folienabschnitts zur Fixierung im Bereich des entsprechenden Spannfingers an den Folienabschnitt angelegt und nach Kontakt des in etwa haubenförmigen Folienabschnittes mit dem Stück- oder Packgut von dem Folienabschnitt entfernt wird.
