  8. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the grasping member is arranged to occupy virtually the entire air volume above the foam when it is in place on the container.
  9. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that, in transverse section, the applicator element is not axisymmetric in shape.
  10. Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the said foam is in permanent contact with the said product.
  11. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the wiping member comprises a foam block (16; 110) stiffened at its periphery over at least part of its height.
  12. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the stem (103; 123) of the applicator has a mid-portion and a portion (109; 127) adjacent to the applicator element, the external diameter of the said portion adjacent to the applicator element being greater than that of the said mid-portion.
  13. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the said product is a liquid.
  14. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the stem of the applicator is rectilinear and in that the container has an elongate shape with a mouth, the width of opening of which is large enough to enable the stem inside the container to make an angle of at least 10° with respect to the longitudinal axis of the container.
  15. Device according to any one of the preceding claims with the exception of Claim 7, characterized in that the wiping member comprises a rigid disc (28) capable of being driven by the applicator when the latter is withdrawn in order to wipe the said foam.
  16. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the wiping member comprises several foam blocks (25; 26; 27) of different densities.
  17. Device according to any one of the preceding claims with the exception of Claim 7, characterized in that the wiping member (11) is immobilized axially inside the container by a narrow section consisting of a flexible annular wall (44) folded inwards and formed by moulding together with the container (40).
  18. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the container (54) is formed by assembling two parts (56; 57), the wiping member being immobilized axially in one of the said parts by the other part.
  19. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the wiping member is recessed axially in its centre.
  20. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it furthermore comprises a wiping lip (166; 176).
  21. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the wiping lip is located at the outer mouth of the container and in that it is extended outwards by a wall (173; 179) which diverges away from the foam.
  22. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the foam has a conical recess (150).
  23. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the grasping member is capable of closing the container in a sealed manner when it is in place thereon.
  24. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the grasping member is capable of being screwed onto a thread (131) of the container of a diameter substantially greater than that of the opening of the container.
  25. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the container has a double wall (58, 60; 77, 80; 92, 94; 115, 120).
  26. Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the applicator element is chosen from the following list: brush, foam, felt, flocked plastic or an elastomer end piece.
  27. Device according to any one of the preceding claims with the exception of Claim 7, characterized in that the foam is located in a housing of the container, the height (h') of which is less than the axial dimension (h) of the foam before it is mounted into the container.
