Description

The present invention relates to a consumable polishing element for finishing optical glasses.

Indeed, optical glasses undergo several transformation steps to arrive at the desired geometric shape and final transparency.

The surfacing of optical glasses, concave or convex face, comprises at least three main steps:
  • the outline which gives the general profile,
  • lapping by lapping which regularizes the surface, and
  • polishing which further refines the surface and gives the glass its transparency.

Given the diversity of the profiles of optical glasses, specific supports have been developed, called "pads", which are removably mounted on rigid rotating supports, called "tools" and which are used as consumables for perform lapping and polishing operations.

These pads are generally fixed by an adhesive interface directly on the tool, or else entrained by a material with very high coefficient of friction, itself fixed by an adhesive interface on the tool.

The glasses are now, for the most part, organic glasses and the problems which arise are not necessarily in the technicality of the realization of the forms but in the manufacturing deadlines for, on the one hand, produce on demand in the shortest possible time and, on the other hand, to reduce cost prices.

It is therefore necessary to be able to find arrangements of material constituting the pads, which allow savings in polishing time, which use inexpensive materials since they are consumable elements, which can adapt to running-in conditions.

French patent application No. 2,595,606 discloses a multi-layer abrasive disc having two populations of calibrated abrasive grains. Thus, the disc comprises two layers, one internal close to the support and the other external opposite the support. In the outer layer, grains larger than that of the grains placed in the inner layer are included, in a ratio of the order of 1.5 to give an order of magnitude.

It is then possible to rough in a first phase and then to refine with the finer grains, under water spraying.

It can be seen that in such an embodiment, these are grains of abrasives which are held in a polymer support.

There is another technique which consists in using pads in the form of discs of fibrous materials which are watered, during the working period, with liquids containing abrasive particles. These discs must have specific features in order to best respect the shape of the tool, and best retain the lubricating liquid and carrier of abrasive particles, while limiting the wear of said fibers which could lead to a deterioration in quality. polishing and / or pollution of the bath.

Document WO-98/45112 describes a polishing element, intended to be mounted on a rotating support, comprising a base of a polymer film, comprising on its surface a flocking comprising polyester or nylon fibers fixed on said base to the using an adhesive.

The present invention relates to a consumable polishing element of the pad type which is economical, which allows significant time savings, which makes it possible to achieve a suitable polishing quality, which can be produced in large numbers, which can receive liquids with suspensions. abrasives known type, with a longevity compatible with the polishing parameters and which is easy to use.

To this end, according to the invention, the finishing polishing element for mineral or organic optical glasses, intended to be mounted on a rotating support, of shape adapted to that of the glass to be polished, comprising a base consisting of a polymeric film, of a fabric or of a nonwoven, comprises on its surface a flocking comprising viscose fibers fixed on said base by means of an adhesive.

Avantageusement, les fibres ont une longueur comprise entre 0,3 mm et 1,0 mm et un diamètre compris entre 5 µm et 25 µm.Advantageously, the fibers have a length of between 0.3 mm and 1.0 mm and a diameter of between 5 μm and 25 μm.

The base and the glue retained also have specific characteristics for an optimal result.

The present invention is now described with reference to the drawing in which the single figure shows a schematic sectional view of an element of the pad type.

This single figure shows a base 10 which is cut from a polymer film. This base could also come from cutting a fabric or a nonwoven, according to the applications, but the best results obtained were with a polymer base.

Another advantage is also noted, that of good tearing, due to the fact that the polymer film can easily withstand traction without exhibiting anisotropy in tearing like tissue, which makes them fragile when the operator exerts traction. to remove the pad from the tool.

According to a preferred embodiment, the polymer is a polyvinyl chloride. The surface mass is between 150 g / m 2 and 400 g / m 2 , preferably 240 g / m 2 , which corresponds to a thickness of approximately 0.25 mm.

The density of the support has a strong influence on many working parameters and provides certain advantages.

Indeed, the density allows a good conformation on the tool, a good grip during the installation and the removal of the pad, a good resistance to compression and a homogeneous distribution of the pressure during work, which is synonymous with '' high polishing precision.

This base is advantageously cut in the form of a disc because the machines which receive it are of the rotating type. The term disc must be taken in its widest sense, that is to say a piece of revolution, but it can of course take the circular or oval shape, with petals or without, with indentations or not.

This base 10 is then flocked by distributing fibers 12 in an adhesive 14. The fibers are deposited in surplus and are oriented by methods known in this technical field such as the creation of electrostatic fields.

Advantageously, the viscose fibers have a linear mass of 5 decitex and a length of between 0.3 mm and 1.0 mm, preferably 0.5 mm, which leads to a surface mass of between 50 g / m 2 and 120 g / m 2 preferably 70 g / m 2 . The length is the length of the fibers as they are produced and are therefore measured a priori.

The diameter of these fibers is between 5 and 25 μm and preferably between 15 and 25 μm, for the given lengths.

As for the adhesive, it is preferably a glue based on polyvinyl chloride added with a plasticizer having a surface mass of between 50 g / m 2 and 150 g / m 2 , preferably 130 g / m 2 .

Pour donner un ordre de grandeur, l'épaisseur totale de l'élément de polissage selon la présente invention est comprise entre 0,8 et 0,90 mm, plus particulièrement 0,85 mm.To give an order of magnitude, the total thickness of the polishing element according to the present invention is between 0.8 and 0.90 mm, more particularly 0.85 mm.

Thus designed, the polishing element according to the present invention makes it possible to obtain surprising results since the time is reduced from 12 min to 7 or 8 min for the same surface of the same profile and by using the same polishing liquid. aluminum oxide.

In addition to saving time, we also note that 80% of the polishing work is carried out between 1 and 2 min while the known pads do not allow to detect a polishing initiation during this same period.

There is therefore not only a gain in overall time but also a gain in efficiency.

Conditions d'essai :

  • verre traité : verre organique d'indice 1,6; courbe 4,12 x 4,62 ;
  • liquide de polissage : oxyde d'aluminium avec un diamètre de particules de 1,3 µ ;
  • pression de polissage : 1,725 bar ;
  • durée de polissage : 6 mn.
Test conditions:
  • treated glass: organic glass of index 1.6; curve 4.12 x 4.62;
  • polishing liquid: aluminum oxide with a particle diameter of 1.3 µ;
  • polishing pressure: 1.725 bar;
  • polishing time: 6 min.

We measured an increase in material removal in the center of the glass of 16%, under the same conditions, compared to a commercial pad having the same diameter and the same shape but whose fiber lengths and diameters, in particular, are different.
