Im Mikroprozessor sind z. B. die Referenzwerte gespeichert, mit denen die Münzsignale des Münzprüfers verglichen werden zwecks Bestimmung, ob eine eingeworfene Münze echt ist oder nicht. Nur echte Münzen werden entweder in eine der dafür vorgesehenen Tuben oder in die Kasse gelenkt und führen zu einem Vergleich mit dem im Mikroprozessor voreingestellten Preis für eine Ware oder eine Dienstleistung. Nach Erreichen des vorgegebenen oder eines darüber liegenden Preises kann dann ein Signal an den Automaten gegeben werden zur Ausgabe einer Ware, eines Tickets oder dergleichen. Der überbezahlte Betrag wird, wie bereits erwähnt, aus den Tuben zurückgezahlt. Dies geschieht mit Hilfe einer geeigneten Auszahlvorrichtung.
