Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sail for a vehicle that can be moved by wind power, such as surfboard, sailboat or the like, with the sail along its Front edge can be connected to a mast, the sail on its clew or on or near its lower edge at least selectively articulated with a mast connected tree is connectable and being the sail in the area of its free rear edge at least one in the sail plane has adjustable sail part, wherein by adjusting the sail part in its one direction of adjustment the sail area of the sail can be reduced overall and by adjusting the sail part on its other Adjustment direction of the sail area of the sail as a whole can be enlarged.
- a surf sail consisting of a base sail that is attached to its luff on one a boom in the usual way connectable mast and on its clew at the other end of the boom and an additional sail for reefing.
- the additional sail is triangular and narrow and cut high and on his head in the upper area of the base sail swiveling near its leech fixed and in the lower area approximately at the level of
- the boom is equipped with a guide bar that is so is arranged and curved that when swiveling the additional sail is pivoted on a circular path, whose radius is the distance between the guide batten and the attachment point on which the additional sail on the base sail corresponds is fixed.
- the guide slat is adjustable in length performed so that the additional sail during the Surfing can be swung out and in again.
- a surf sail is known from GB 2 235 671 A, with an adjustable sail part parallel to the mast can be moved up and down.
- the postponement of the adjustable sail section is made using cables, from at least one over the top of the mast and one there attached pulley is guided, so with this Cable the adjustable sail part parallel to the mast can be pulled up and held there if the maximum area of the sail provided shall be. So that the pulley at the top of the mast can absorb occurring forces, the mast must in its tip has great stability and rigidity, which leads to the fact that this well-known surf sail no mast with a flex dynamic in its upper Range can be used.
- the task is to create a sail of the type mentioned, in which a change in the sail area is possible in a simple manner, without this having a negative influence on the sail characteristics, and also for one Use on modern Flexdynamik masts with flexible upper mast end area should be suitable without restrictions.
- the sail should be equally applicable to sailboats and catamarans as well as surfboards and other vehicles powered by wind power.
- This object is achieved according to the invention by a sail of the type mentioned above, which is characterized in that the adjustable sail part is essentially perpendicular to the free rear edge of the sail and / or substantially parallel to the tree and / or parallel to the battens forming part of the sail is movable.
- the invention creates the advantageous possibility of the sail in a simple way and even while using the associated vehicle in its Enlarge or reduce the area to the sail area to the wind conditions encountered in each case to be able to adapt quickly. Because just a shift of the sliding sail part to change the Sail area is required can be a very simple operation done what the new sail in particular also suitable for surfboards. Because the direction of displacement of the adjustable sail part essentially vertically runs parallel to the free edge of the sail, or to the tree, essentially in the horizontal direction, can with relatively small displacement paths achieve the largest relative change in area of the sail area.
- the sail according to the invention remains advantageous the luff length unchanged, so that easily and a flexible dynamic mast, e.g.
- adjustable sail part an area above the tree, especially one Surf sail, limit and around the tree for displacement to be able to use the adjustable sail part suggested that the tree be essentially parallel to the guide profiles runs in and away from the mast End area is designed to be adjustable in length.
- Adjustable booms are specially designed for surfboard sails known per se, but always only for use in connection with different sails each a firm sail area.
- the sail provided at least one fixed length batten is and that the adjustable sail part after up to the first guide profile counted from above extends.
- the upper end area remains of the sail regardless of the position of the adjustable sail part unaffected in its size.
- the sail at least in one area, in which the sliding sail part with minimal The sail area lies in two layers in the form of a pocket is, the sliding sail part in this The bag can be pushed in and pulled out of this bag is.
- the locking means mentioned above can for example by interacting locking elements on the guide profiles and sliding strips and if necessary those that can be moved against each other to change the length Parts of the tree may be formed or alternatively manually adjustable clamping or locking elements that are attached to the Guide profiles, preferably on the free edge of the sail facing ends, and if necessary one of the displaceable against each other to change the length Parts of the tree are arranged.
- the sail 1 shown in FIG. 1 is in the present Embodiment as a sail for a surfboard executed. With his figure pointing to the left The leading edge 11 (luff) is the sail 1 in the usual way Way connected to a mast 3, which with its lower, end no longer visible here with an associated end Surfboard is articulated. Also owns the sail 1 a boom that is common for surfboard sails 30th
- this shows here shown sail 1 next to a fixed sail part 10 on a sliding part 20 which is displaceable relative thereto.
- the sliding sail part is in Figure 1 20 shown in its extended position, in the sail 1 has its maximum sail area.
- the sail 1 with several Guide profiles 14 equipped which also serve as battens serve and essentially parallel to each other perpendicular to the free edge 22 of the sail 1 and parallel run to the boom 30.
- the leadership profiles 14 each lie with their one on the left in the drawing End at mast 3 and reach with their other end with the exception of the lower profile 14 each up to the free Edge 22 'of the sail 1.
- the sliding sail part 20 has each guide profile 14 a pair of sliding strips 24 on the guide profiles 14 aligned and axially displaceable in these are led. Each on its outer, i.e. the Free edge 22 facing ends 24 'are the sliding strips 24 each pair of sliding strips connected.
- the movable sail part 20 is in turn with connected to the sliding strips 24, for example glued or welded.
- the boom 30 is distant from its mast End area 32 also variable in length, here telescopic, executed.
- FIG. 1 In its thinly hatched area in FIG. 1 is the fixed sail part 10 in two layers in the form of a Pocket 13 executed.
- This pocket 13 is to the free edge 22 'open and the displaceable sail part 22 can inserted into this pocket 13 and out of this pocket 13 be pulled out. Breathable slits between the fixed sail part 10 and the movable sail part 20 are thus largely avoided, so that the Sail 1 in action regardless of the position of the sliding part 20 as a one-piece Sail behaves.
- the sail In its upper area, i.e. the sail is in the top 10 equipped with a sail part of unchangeable size, this upper part of the sail by a fixed, non-variable-length batten 114 held open becomes.
- the mast 3 has in its upper end area 3 'increased flexibility, i.e. a so-called "Flex momentum”.
- the sail 1 is in its upper sail area, to match the flex dynamics of the upper mast area 3 ', equipped with a so-called “twist dynamic", which automatically reduces the sail area in the case of sudden gusts, by the mast end area 3 ' is flexibly bent and thus also the upper sail area above the upper guide profile 14 in its effective area is reduced.
- This flex dynamic of the Mast end area 3 'and the twist dynamics of the upper sail area are made possible by the adjustable sail section 20 advantageously not affected.
- the sail 1 can also be designed so that the sliding sail part 20 only over the sail area extends above the boom 30.
- the sail 1 also two separate slidable Have sail parts 20, preferably one sliding sail part above the boom 30 lies and the second sliding part of the sail below of the boom 30 is provided.
- the alternative Versions have a fixed position of the connection the end of the boom 30 facing away from the mast with the free Edge 12 or the clew of the sail 1, so that a Boom 30 fixed length can be used.
- all versions of the sail 1 with small displacement paths allows large relative sail area changes, so that with the sail 1 at least two or even more more conventional sails with fixed sail area can be replaced are.
- FIG extended sliding sail part 20 whose free Edge 22 through the here acting as battens Sliding bars 24 kept taut. Furthermore results when the sliding part of the sail is fully inserted 20 a steady course of the free edge 12 of the fixed Sail part 10, so that ineffective or for fluttering tending edge areas of the sail 1 can be avoided, independently in which position the movable Sail part 20 is located straight.
- FIG. 2 of the drawing shows an enlarged view a section of the sliding sail part 20 together with a section of the fixed sail part 10.
- This sail part 20 can double arrow to the left or shifted to the right, with the maximum in FIG extended position of the sliding sail part 20 is shown.
- the sliding Sail part 20 By moving the sliding Sail part 20 to the left is increasingly in the in this area designed as a pocket 13 fixed sail part 10 inserted, the leadership of the two sail parts 10, 20 relative to each other through the guide profiles 14 and the sliding strips 24 guided therein.
- the sliding strips 24 are each connected to one another sufficient cohesion of the movable To ensure sail part 20.
- Figure 4 of the drawing shows in cross section along the Line IV-IV a possible design of the management profiles 14 and the sliding strips 24.
- the one shown has Guide profile 14 in principle the shape of a double T, whose T-crossbars are bent towards each other, but a longitudinal slot 14 '' between each end set free. In this way, two parallel guide channels 14 'formed, in each of which a sliding bar 24 is performed.
- the sliding strips 24 are in their cross-sectional shape to the cross-sectional shape of the guide channels 14 'adapted and have a slight Undersize that enables displacement.
- the two layers of the pocket 13 forming the fixed sail part 10 connected, preferably glued or welded.
- the one lying inside the pocket 13 and in it slidable sail part 20 is with the sliding strips 24 connected, here in each case that of the sliding bar 24 facing edge of the sail part 20 in the Sliding bar 24 is inserted and fastened therein, here also preferably a bond or weld is used.
- Both the guide profiles 14 and the sliding strips 24 are preferably made of plastic to a small extent Weight and high stability at the same time to achieve a certain flexibility.
- FIG. 5 finally shows in the same manner of representation like FIG. 4, a modified design of the guide profiles 14 and the associated sliding strips 24.
- the cross-section substantially T-shaped is, in the present embodiment also the foot of the T is widened by an enlarged connection area to ensure with the sail part 10.
- Mirror-symmetrical arrangement is an identical guide profile 14 on the right sail part 10 in FIG. 5 arranged so that the T-crossbar of the two guide profiles 14 facing each other and parallel to each other run.
- the adjustable is located in the middle between the two sail parts 10 Sail part 20, of which also a section is visible.
- On both sides of the adjustable Sail part 20 is a C-shaped cross section Sliding bar 24 arranged, the two sliding bars 24 lying back to back.
- the two sliding bars 24 take the adjustable sail part 20 between up and through each other connected.
- Each C-shaped sliding bar 24 engages around one of the T-crossbars the guide profiles 14 with the release of a sufficient movement play. That way the sliding strips 24 with the adjustable adjustable attached Sail part 20 in the axial direction of the guide profiles 14 slidable relative to these. A relative movement in the transverse direction to the direction of displacement the shape of the guide profiles 14 and the sliding strips 24 excluded.
