Definitions
- the invention relates to systems for fixing a shoe on a board and more precisely in the field of surfing of snow. It relates to a device allowing the adjustment of the angular position of a binding on a board, in particular snowboarding.
- Snowboarding is done using a board lying on which are immobilized the two feet of a user by suitable retaining elements.
- the positions adopted for the practice of this discipline can be very varied. Feet are generally tilted with respect to the median longitudinal axis of the plank several tens of degrees.
- a device comprising a plate elongated base provided with means for receiving and securing a shoe comprising a central hole in which a disc is housed which is anchored directly in the board at the by means of several screws and which keeps the plate in position on the board by pressing on the edge of the central hole.
- US Patent 5,236,216 relates to a similar device in which the disc includes a circumferential border forming with the edge of a central hole in the base plate one annular bearing surface in a substantially plane horizontal or parallel to the plane of the board.
- This surface support includes roughness or fine teeth to secure the base plate sufficiently by friction.
- This device is easier to adjust but cannot provide self-centering effective disc in the hole, nor significant resistance to rotation due to the planar configuration of the surface support.
- the utility model JP- (U) -3001977 relates to a fixing of snowboard comprising a base plate pierced with an orifice mount for a disc designed to fit together in the hole according to a smooth trunk-shaped support surface cone.
- An independent and offset locking device with a lock is provided on the side of the base plate to lock the baseplate relative to the board.
- the device is not completely satisfactory because it it is necessary to use an additional disc arranged between the base plate and the board which includes housing positioning of the lock.
- the presence of such a disc creates especially an elevation of the shoe compared to the board; which is not very desirable to be able to keep sufficient sensations with the board.
- 'Clicker' distributed by the company Shimano which includes a base plate provided with a hole for receiving a disc central by form fitting.
- the disc includes teeth located around the edge of the disc which engage in several vertical pins located at the periphery of the disc on a rim of the base plate.
- About ten pawns are spaced a few degrees from each other and distributed over a extended part of the perimeter of the edge of the central opening of around 180 degrees; which does not allow a easy disengagement of the disc for adjustment angular.
- the nesting of the bowl shaped disc in the hole in the base plate does not allow sliding of the disc relative to the base plate.
- the aim of the present invention is therefore to propose a device for adjusting the rotation of a base plate with a locking disc which provides a satisfactory solution to problems encountered with devices of the prior art.
- the plate basic generally supporting the shoe can be more easily moved in rotation while the anchoring means disc are only partially loose.
- the operation of adjustment is thus much faster. Adjustment can be done in a more continuous manner and by movement without lashing of the base plate; thus allowing more efficient fine tuning.
- the device according to the invention has no elements subject to friction which can cause wear problems and affect the operation of the device.
- the invention may also include a base plate connected directly to the board by anchoring means while it is the central disc which is movable in rotation relative to the base plate. This reverse case is also part of the framework set by the invention.
- the two portions of surfaces have a complementary frusto-conical shape. This improves the disc contact on the plate; which promotes both slip when off-centering the disc and returning to centering of the disc.
- the means anchors consist of several screws passing through holes distributed on the central disc and intended to anchor in the gliding board; partial loosening of the screws allowing a decentering of the disc relative to the orifice of the base plate by lateral displacement of the base plate which causes the central disc to tilt. So, we get by simple off-center of the disc in relation to the base plate, a disengagement of the stop means and therefore freedom of movement in rotation of the base plate.
- the surface portions in contact with one another have a slope from the general plane of the base plate included between 25 and 45 degrees; preferably between 30 and 35 degrees (including limit values). These values have been chosen to maintain both a disk self-centering function into the hole in the base plate and promote sliding disc to cause off-center when adjusting rotation of the base plate.
- the figures 1 and 2 represent a device of the invention which comprises, for a better understanding of the invention, part only elements of a snowboard binding suitable for a flexible shoe.
- the device 1 comprises a base plate 2 intended to rest on the upper surface a board (not shown) in a variable orientation with respect to the median longitudinal axis of the board; generally substantially transverse to said axis.
- the plate may include side walls 23, 24 extending substantially vertically for lateral support of the shoe. These walls serve as support for the anchoring of shoe fastening means; in general means known type ratchet straps and latches (not shown).
- the walls meet towards the rear of the device by a curved heel wall 25 serving to support an element of rear support 10 articulated on the side walls 23, 24.
- the base plate has substantially the dimensions of a sole shoe. It is provided in its central part with a circular opening 20 of about 8 to 10 cm in diameter.
- the orifice is delimited by a peripheral and circular edge 21 of shape particular including, more specifically, a portion of peripheral surface 200 of frusto-conical shape; that is to say, a portion whose surface has the shape of a flaring ring gradually upwards.
- the device includes a disc central 3 with a contour which projects slightly beyond the circular opening 20. It is itself provided with an edge peripheral 30 having a shaped surface portion 300 substantially complementary to that of the surface portion 200 from the edge of the orifice 20, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. It is therefore a portion of surface of frusto-conical shape with a slope substantially equal to that of the portion 200.
- the surface portions 200, 300 are intended to enter into contact with each other to form a conical socket on disc cone in the hole in the base plate.
- Such interlocking has, among other things, the advantage of allowing self-centering disc in the hole.
- the central disc 3 is secured to the board by means anchor 4 such as screws 40, 41, 42, 43 passing through of holes distributed on the central disc.
- anchor 4 such as screws 40, 41, 42, 43 passing through of holes distributed on the central disc.
- the screws are four in number and are arranged in all four corners of a 400 square 4 cm apart to meet the standard currently the most widely used.
- the surface portions 200, 300 in contact with each other are provided smooth so as to favor sliding one on the other at the same time during displacement of the base plate in rotation relative to the disc and when sliding in a radial direction for reach an off-center position of the disc relatively to the orifice or vice versa to resume a centered position.
- the device comprises a means stopping the base plate 2 from rotating relative to the disc central 3 which is formed by meshing with a series of teeth 310 positioned around the edge of the edge 30 of the disc; in take with engagement means 22 occupying a limited arc portion and comprising projecting elements 220, 221, 222 positioned on base plate 2.
- the number of projecting elements can be variable to ensure sufficient rotation retention; one being the minimum to be expected. It is important for a good operation of the invention that the length of the portion arc formed by the occupation of the engagement means is short; not more than about 90 degrees, preferably less than 20 degrees, to allow easy disengagement of the means stop.
- the correct arc length is a function of the geometry of the more or less releasing mesh (striations, teeth, ...) or materials used with a coefficient of more or less low friction; and this to meet the compromise between sufficient rotation blocking of the plate and ease of disengagement of the stop means during adjustment.
- teeth can be replaced by streaks or alveoli of variable shapes and dimensions without so far from the scope of the present invention.
- the peripheral edge 30 of the disc central includes an upper lip 330 carrying said series teeth 310.
- This lip extends radially the portion of surface 300 and rests on a flat annular rim 230 of the edge 21 of the hole in the base plate when the disc is in the fitted position in the orifice; said flange 230 bearing said fixed engagement means 22.
- the projecting elements 220, 221, 222 consist of pins vertically oriented and housed in the edge 230 of the plate and cooperate with the series of teeth 310 lining the periphery of the lip 330 of the disc.
- Figures 5 and 6 show the device in blocking position of the base plate relative to the disc.
- a pressure significant is exerted on the surface portion 200 of the edge of the orifice; which keeps the plate against the board.
- disk 3 is perfectly fitted in the orifice 20 and the stop means is in the engagement position so that the rotation of the plate 2 is impossible.
- the surface portions 200, 300 in contact one on the other have a slope A compared to the plane general P of the base plate between 25 and 45 degrees; preferably between 30 and 35 degrees (limit values included).
- the choice of these values is linked to the need to ensure a both self-centering of the disc to facilitate its positioning, an interlocking having a certain resistance to rotation in plate clamping position and also a socket which allows a radial sliding in particular to favor the decentering during the adjustment.
- FIG. 9 illustrates a different embodiment of the means in which the projecting elements 220, 221, 222 are teeth of complementary shape to those present on the around the disc.
- the shape of these is, for example, in sawtooth and two adjacent teeth are separated by a space of complementary shape.
- Such a shape of teeth has for advantage of being easily releasing and re-engaging when recentering of the disc.
- Figure 10 shows another variant in which the means stop in rotation is formed by the meshing of a series of teeth 210 positioned around the edge 21 of the plate basic, and is engaged with engagement means 32 comprising several projecting elements 320, 321, 322 positioned on the edge of the disc.
- the lip upper 330 includes the engagement means 32 in the form of three teeth 320, 321, 322, for example, the rest of the perimeter of the disc being devoid of engagement means.
- the lip takes support on the annular rim 230 of the plate which includes the series of teeth 210 which occupies the entire circumference of the edge of the orifice.
- the teeth of the stopper could be replaced by other equivalent retaining elements like streaks for example.
- the engagement means 32 carried by the disc could consist of only one protruding element for example, without leaving it of the scope of the invention.
- FIGS. 11 and 12 illustrate a variant of the invention in which the means for stopping the rotation of the base plate 2 by report to disc 3 includes a series of 310 grooves lining the inclined surface portion 300 of the edge 30 of the disc which comes into contact with the surface portion 200 of the edge 20 of the base plate.
- the stop means also includes at least one protruding engagement means 22 consisting of at least one pin, for example, positioned at an angle on the portion of surface 200 of the edge of the base plate.
- the engagement medium occupies only a limited portion of arc of the edge of the plate; this in order to favor the lateral clearance of the plate by relative to the disc, preferably on the side opposite the disc.
- two means of engagement are arranged diametrically opposite in a certain direction on the edge of the disc to ensure a better blocking of rotation of the base plate while making possible the disengagement after partial unscrewing of the anchor screw in a radial direction perpendicular to direction connecting the opposite means of engagement.
- the elastic means 5 comprises, for example, two spring elements 50, 51 located opposite and other of the engagement means 22 and which exerts a thrust against the edge 30 of the disc.
- Spring elements 50, 51 are, for example, elements of the elastic blade type in metal. They could also be replaced by rubber stamps. elastomer or any other equivalent means.
- Figures 14 and 15 show another possible mode of the invention.
- the 3A disk is rendered movable in rotation and the base plate 2A is connected directly to the board by the anchoring means 4.
- Means fasteners 6 are mounted directly on the disc.
- these fixing means 6 consist of a front support member 60 and a rear support member 61 opposite the front support member. These elements are in the form of loops of bending-resistant wires and the torsion on which elements are slidably mounted shoe 62, 63.
- the 3A disc and the base plate 2A are in contact with each other according to respective surface portions 200, 300 which are inclined with respect to the horizontal reference plane so that constitute a sliding ramp favoring the decentering of the disc relative to the base plate when the screws 4 which retain the base plate on the board are partly undone.
- the disc has the same streak structure on the portion of frustoconical surface 300 that the disc of figure 12.
- the ridges of the disc therefore cover the entire periphery of the surface portion 300.
- the edge of the orifice of the base plate 2A comprises an engagement means under the shape of an inclined pawn 22, for example, which engages in the disc grooves when tightening the screws 4.
- the elements constituting the device according to the invention can be chosen from resistant materials such as certain metals; steel, aluminum or certain alloys metallic. We can also use certain plastics injected, preferably reinforced, to make all or part elements of the device.
