Abstract

The fresh air snorkel for divers and similar users has the effect with the result that the diver breathes easier due to breathing the air in through one tube and breathing air out through the other tube based on that it is installed one or several one-way-valves (1, 2) in each tube. The fresh air snorkel is equipped with one mouthpiece (3) which can be arranged to a middle piece (7), if necessary, or directly to two separate inlet and outlet tubes (5 and 6). The inlet tube and the oulet tube can be constructed close to each other so that another person can close his mouth over both tubes without knowing which tube is the inlet tube.

Description

  • The invention relates to a fresh air snorkel which make it easier for the diver to breathe.
  • A conventional snorkel has only one tube, resulting in the diver inhaling used air remaining in the tube.
  • This cause the result that the diver will be very quickly exhausted and therefore have to take a relative deep breath to gain fresh air. From FR-A-736 745 a fresh air snorkel according to the first part of claim 1 is known. The one-way valves are both arranged in the free end of the outlet tube resulting in an inefficient air exchange during breathing.
  • Using the fresh air snorkel according to the invention, will give as result that the diver does not need to breathe so deeply to gain fresh air, and that the diver will not be so quikly exhausted. The fresh air snorkel can be made twice as long as a conventional snorkel and the diver need not to breathe deeper to gain the fresh air.
  • According to the invention, as defined in Claim 1 this can be achieved by arranging a breathetube from the monthpiece, which breathetube is divided in two separate tubes nearby, or inside the mouthpiece. One of the tubes leads air to the diver and the other tube leads air from the diver. In each of the tubes is installed a one-way valve, which opens only while the diver inhales and another one-way valve which opens only while the diver exhales.
    • Fig. 1 disclose a schematic construction of a fresh air snorkel according to the type described in the first part of claim 1, and
    • fig. 2 disclose an example of a construction of a one-way valve.
  • In fig. 1 is shown a mouthpiece 3, connected at 4 to a middel-piece 7, which is divided into two separate air tubes 5,6, one inlet air-tube 5 and one outlet air-tube 6. These are in their whole length arranged close to each other. Both tubes are approximately of the same length. In the end opposite of the mouthpiece is arranged one-way valves 1, 2. These valves are constructed so that one valve opens at inlet breathing, and the other opens at outlet breathing. Fig. 2 shows that the valves are fitted in the free end of the tubes but other arrangements are possible. For example the valves can be fitted in the opposite end, at 4, not shown in the figure. It is also possible to place several valves in each tube, for example one valve fitted in both ends in each tube.
  • While using the fresh air snorkel, the diver may continously hold his mouth closed around the mouthpiece, while fresh air and used air may pass through the mouthpiece.
  • By arranging the tubes close to each other, it is possible for another person, in an emergency situation, to close his mouth over both tubes at the same time, and blow air to the diver. This operation can be carried out without knowing which tube is the inlet air tube.
  • It is also within the frame of the invention to arrange the two tubes directly connected to the mouthpiece without the middel-piece, this is not shown in the drawings.
