Abstract

The invention relates to a cardboard folding carton, in particular for deep-frozen products, having a bottom (2), side walls (3) and a top (4). The bottom (2) and the side walls (3) are formed by erecting a blank and are joined to form a self-supporting lower carton part. According to the invention, the folding carton has a carton insert, produced from a carton blank, for the product being packed as well as an inlay (10) covering the filling opening of the carton insert. By means of spacer elements (8, 9), the carton insert is kept at a distance from the bottom (2) and from the side walls (3) of the lower carton part (1) in a way forming a hollow wall. The hollow space formed as a result is closed off at the top by rectangularly folded-off terminating tabs, formed onto the side walls (3) of the lower carton part. The inlay (10) and the top (4) form a hollow wall, which adjoins the hollow space between the carton insert and the lower carton part. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates generically to a folding box made of cardboard, in particular for deep-frozen products, with a bottom, side walls and a lid, the bottom and the side walls being formed by erecting a blank and connected to form a self-supporting bottom part of the box.

Cardboard folding boxes are mainly used to pack frozen food. To improve the barrier properties, this cardboard can have an inner coating, e.g. B. made of polyethylene or polypropylene. The generic packaging has good stability and can be printed in multiple colors. In this respect, the packaging has proven itself in practice. However, the cold insulation is in need of improvement. Thus, when transporting the frozen products, for example from the shopping center to the consumer household, there is a regular risk that the packaged food will thaw. The inadequate insulation effect is also the reason for the formation of frost on the outer surfaces of the packs on display in a refrigerated counter. This is often perceived as annoying by the consumer.

The invention has for its object to improve the thermal insulation of a generic folding box.

The folding box of the type described at the outset is characterized according to the invention by a box insert made of a cardboard blank for the packaged goods and an insert covering the filling opening of the box insert, the box insert being held by spacer elements with a cavity-forming distance from the floor and the side walls of the bottom part of the box and the resultant formed thereby Cavity is closed on the upper side by right-angled folding tabs formed on the side walls of the lower part of the box and the insert and the cover form a hollow wall which adjoins the cavity between the box insert and the lower part of the box. The box insert and the insert are made of cardboard, and customary inner coatings can be provided to improve the barrier properties. - According to the invention, all of the box surfaces of the closed folding box are designed as hollow walls which adjoin one another while avoiding cold bridges. The invention uses the low thermal conductivity in standing layers of air. An air gap of one or a few millimeters is sufficient to improve the thermal insulation considerably.

It is within the scope of the invention to design the spacer elements as separate components. For manufacturing reasons, however, it is advantageous to provide designs on the blanks from which the bottom part of the box and / or the box insert are made, which can be folded down to form spacer elements. An embodiment of the invention which is advantageous both in terms of heat technology and in terms of production technology provides that the end flaps of the bottom part of the box have inward-turning wall surfaces which lie as spacing elements on side surfaces of the bottom part of the box, or alternatively the end flaps of the bottom part of the box with folded-over connecting surfaces of the box insert to spacer elements are connected. The spacer elements formed in this way have sufficient rigidity. Cold bridges in the lid area of the folding box are also reliably avoided. The box insert expediently consists of an erectable blank which has a bottom surface, molded side surfaces and adhesive tabs connected to the side surfaces. The adhesive tabs can at the same time be designed as spacer elements which define the distance of the box insert from the bottom of the bottom part of the box. To this end, the invention teaches that the adhesive flaps each comprise an adjacent side surface on the outside after erecting the box insert and are formed with projections which form spacer elements standing on the bottom of the box bottom part in the manner of a foot. It goes without saying that the spacer elements standing on the bottom of the bottom part of the box can be reinforced by double folding or by gluing cardboard or cardboard strips.

The insert consists of a cardboard blank with angularly foldable flange surfaces that rest on the bottom part of the box, or alternatively of a cardboard blank with a base that can be inserted into the box insert and tabs molded onto it, whereby the tabs can be erected to form a circumferential collar on the side surfaces of the box insert abuts and laterally closes off the hollow wall formed between the lid and the base of the box insert. The lid is expediently designed as a hood with side parts and is produced from a separate cardboard blank.

The folding box according to the invention is characterized by good thermal insulation, which is particularly advantageous with regard to the packaging of deep-frozen products. Cold bridges which impair the practical value of the folding box are not present. Since no special materials are used, the outer surface of the folding box according to the invention can be printed in multiple colors, as is customary in practice. Known, automated devices can be used to produce the folding box.

The folding box shown in the figures consists of cardboard and is particularly intended for frozen products. The basic structure includes a bottom box part 1 with bottom 2 and side walls 3 and a lid 4. Bottom 2 and side walls 3 are formed by erecting a blank 5 and by tabs 6, which are connected to side walls 3, to form stable bottom box part 1 connected. 1 and 2 and 7 it can be seen that a box insert 7 is arranged in the bottom part 1 of the box for receiving the product to be packaged. The box insert 7 is held by spacer elements 8, 9 with a cavity wall-forming distance from the bottom 2 and from the side walls 3. On the box insert 7, which has a bottom and is open at the top, the insert 10 is arranged at a distance from the lid 4 forming a hollow wall. 1 shows that all of the outer box surfaces are designed as hollow walls.

Aus einer zusammenschauenden Betrachtung der Fig. 7 bis 9 wird dies ohne weiteres deutlich.2 and 3, it can be seen that the blank forming the lower part 1 of the box 5 has end flaps 11 which connect to the upper edge of the side walls 3. The end flaps 11 cover the hollow walls formed between the lower box part 1 and the box insert 7 on the upper side. They furthermore have wall surfaces which can be turned inside and which rest as spacing elements 8 on the side surfaces of the box insert 7. The embodiment according to FIG. 7 differs in that the end flaps 11 of the lower box part 1 are connected to folded-over connection surfaces 11 'of the box insert 7 to form spacing elements 8. This is readily apparent from an overall view of FIGS. 7 to 9.

The box insert 7 consists of an erectable blank 12 which has a bottom surface 13, molded side surfaces 14 and adhesive tabs 15 connected to the side surfaces 14. 2 or 7 and 4 it can be seen that the adhesive tabs 15 each comprise an adjacent side face 14 on the outside after the box insert 7 has been erected. The adhesive tabs 15 are also formed with projections, which form foot-like spacer elements 9 on the bottom 2 of the lower box part 1. 2 and 5 to 7 it is readily apparent that the insert 10 consists of a blank 16 with angularly foldable flange surfaces 17 which rest on the bottom part 1 of the box, and that the lid 4 is designed as a hood with side parts 18 and also is produced from a flat blank 19. 10, the insert 10 can alternatively also consist of a blank with a base 20 that can be inserted into the box insert 7 and tabs 17 'formed thereon, the tabs 17' being erectable to form a circumferential collar which bears against the side surfaces 14 of the box insert and the hollow wall formed between the lid 4 and the base 20 of the box insert laterally. This type of insert can be used both in the case of the folding box shown in FIG. 2 and in the case of FIG. 7. The circumferential collar leads to a better chambering of the air volume in the cavity wall and advantageously contributes to thermal insulation. - All blanks 5, 12, 16, 19 are made of cardboard.

The folding box shown in the figures can be produced in the following way:
  • First, the lower box part 1 is formed by erecting the blank 5 shown in FIGS. 3 and 8. The tabs 6 are glued to the adjacent side walls 3, preferably with hot glue. The end flaps 11 are then re-soaked. In the next step, the box insert 7 is formed by erecting the blank 12 shown in FIGS. 4 and 9. The adhesive tabs 15 are glued on the outside to the adjacent side surfaces 14. The adhesive tabs 15 also form four foot-like spacer elements 9, which define the hollow wall-forming distance from the bottom 2 of the bottom part 1 of the box. The dimensionally stable box insert 7 is inserted into the bottom part 1 of the box and, if necessary, glued to it. Both side and bottom cavity walls are formed. In the last step, the insert 10 is inserted into the lower part of the box 1 and the cover 4 is applied. The gap between cover 4 and insert 10 also forms a cavity wall.
