Abstract

In the conventional steel-rubber embossing of a web of paper, a rough side and a smooth side are produced. The subject of the application is a multi-ply household or sanitary paper in which at least two plies are embossed independently of each other and joined to each other by knurling in such a way that the outer sides of the outer plies are smooth. The gripping appearance and the quality of the embossed design are improved and the voluminosity of the household or sanitary paper is increased. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for producing a household or hygiene paper, in particular toilet paper, handkerchief or kitchen towel, consisting of at least two layers with embossing, in which at least some of the layers form a rough side and a smooth side independently of one or more layers stamped from each other and connected in such a flush manner that the outer sides of the outer layers are smooth.

Household or hygiene paper produced according to this process is the 4-ply "Hakle Lady" toilet paper manufactured and sold by Hakle-Werke GmbH & Co., Gassnerallee 45/47, 6500 Mainz, since about 1980. The layers of this toilet paper are connected by gluing. Gluing is detrimental to the softness of a household or hygienic paper.

From US-A 4481243 a hygienic paper is known consisting of two interconnected layers of tissue paper, the soft sides of which face outwards.

The object of the invention is to provide a method for producing a household or hygiene paper of the type mentioned which has an improved appearance of softness.

This object is achieved in that the independently embossed layers are passed through an electrostatic discharge station and electrostatically discharged and connected to one another by knurling immediately prior to their connection.

When the individual layers of household or hygiene paper are embossed independently, they can experience a different electrostatic charge. In order to achieve good layer adhesion when brought together, the layers are passed together through an electrostatic discharge station and are electrostatically discharged. The subsequent connection of the layers by knurling is preferred in terms of production technology and leads to household or hygiene paper with an improved softness impression.

Before or when the layers are knurled, an adhesive can be placed between the layers, in particular sprayed on. This supports the connection by knurling and effectively combines the generation of mechanical and chemical layer adhesion.

Process variants for the production of 2- to 4-ply household or hygiene papers are characterized in claims 3 to 8. A two-ply household or hygienic paper has individually embossed layers that are in contact with each other on their rough sides. With 3-ply household or hygiene paper, there is the option of embossing two of its plies as a double ply and the third independently as a single ply. The double layer and the single layer are brought together with their rough side inwards. Alternatively, all three layers of a 3-ply household or hygiene paper can be embossed individually. In the case of 4-ply paper, two pairs of plies can be embossed in two layers independently of one another and brought into contact with their rough side on the inside. But there is also the possibility emboss only two of his layers together and the other two layers independently, and last but not least, all four layers can be embossed individually. The more layers are embossed individually, the higher the volume of the hygienic paper received - at the price of a higher outlay on equipment.

The material of the independently embossed layers of household or hygiene paper can be the same, but also different. For example, you can combine a harder surface or core material with a soft outer material. It is also possible to combine material, in particular tissue, with different strengths and physical properties (fleece, fabric).

The embossing pattern of the independently embossed layers can also be the same or different. With excellent embossing quality, you have a wide range of variations in the design.

A system for carrying out the production method according to the invention contains two or more parallel embossing stations along the running path of two or more paper webs, an electrostatic unloading station which the paper webs pass through together, and a knurling station for generating the layer adhesion between the paper webs.

The paper web passes through an embossing station in which a steel roller 12 and a rubber roller 14 work against one another. The rollers 12, 14 are arranged with a parallel axis, so that their outer surfaces touch or are spaced apart from one another by less than the thickness of the paper web. B. in the form of knobs 16. The paper web 10 passes through the gusset of the counter-rotating rollers 12, 14, the knobs 16 pressing into their surface, while the rubber roller 14 serves as a soft, elastic abutment. The paper web 10 is embossed so that H. the embossed design is visible on both sides. The side 18 embossed by the steel roller 12 is smooth, while the side 20 acted upon by the rubber roller 14 is rough.

The system contains two embossing stations, each with an embossing steel roller 12 and a rubber roller 14 serving as an abutment. Two paper webs 10, in particular made of tissue, pass through the embossing stations and are brought together by suitable deflection on rollers 22 such that their rough sides embossed by the rubber rollers 14 20 face each other. Before the paper webs 10 come into contact with each other on a further roller 24, they pass through an electrostatic unloading station 26. The unloading process taking place here prevents different electrostatic charging of the paper webs 10 in the embossing stations from affecting the layer adhesion of the household or hygiene paper.

The connection of the paper webs 10 takes place according to FIG. 2 by knurling at a knurling station 28. Shown in detail in FIG. 4, the knurling station 28 contains a plurality of knurling rolls 30 arranged on the same axis, which rotate in opposite directions to a supporting roll arranged directly adjacent with a parallel axis and engage in the webs of paper 10 passing therebetween in order to interlock and matt them.

Die Außenseiten 18 des Haushalts- oder Hygienepapiers sind glatt.4 shows the two-ply sanitary paper obtained with the rough sides 20 of the paper webs 10 facing one another. The outer sides 18 of the household or sanitary paper are smooth.

In Fig. 5, a three-ply household or hygiene paper is shown. Two of its layers 38 are stamped together, while the third layer is stamped individually. The production of household or hygiene paper can thus take place on the system illustrated in FIG. 2 with two embossing stations, one of which is run through with a double layer of paper webs 10 and the other with a single layer. The layers 38, 40 are also brought together with the rough side 20 obtained by the rubber embossing, and are permanently connected to one another. The smooth sides 18 the layers 38, 40 face outwards.

A system with three stamping stations is required for this. Two of the layers 44, 46 are in contact with their rough sides 20, and the third layer 42 is applied with its smooth side 20 to the outside of the other two layers 44, 46.

Fig. 7 shows a four-ply household or hygienic paper, in which two double-layers 48, 50 are each individually embossed and their rough side 20 is brought into contact with the inside. Such household or hygiene paper can be produced in a system with two embossing stations according to FIG. 2. Both stamping stations are run through by double-layer paper webs.

The four-ply hygienic paper shown in FIG. 8 has an embossed double layer 52 and two individually embossed layers 54, 56. The layers can be brought into contact with one another in a variety of ways. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the double layer 52 is on the outside. However, it is also possible for the double layer to form a core between the individual layers 54, 56 (not shown). The arrangement is in any case such that on the outside of the Household or hygiene paper come to lie on steel sheets embossed with 12 smooth paper pages. Production takes place in a system with three stamping stations.

Fig. 9 shows a four-ply household or hygiene paper, in which all four plies 58, 60, 62, 64 are embossed individually. A system with four embossing stations is required for this. In principle, two webs of the two-ply household and hygiene paper shown in FIG. 4 are produced and brought together.
