Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for cleaning microwave devices and the use of a cloth moistened with an aqueous surfactant solution in such a method.
In the following, microwave devices are not only to be understood as pure microwave ovens, but also those devices which consist of a combination of a conventional oven and a microwave oven, provided that they allow the conventional heating to be switched off, that is to say the pure microwave mode.
Microwave devices consist of a microwave generator, the magnetron, and a cavity resonator, which are connected to one another via microwave conductors. The cavity is intended to hold substances to be heated, usually foodstuffs, the water, sugar and fat molecules of which are excited by the action of microwaves to rotate and vibrate and thereby heat the entire amount of substance. With the help of microwave ovens it is possible to cook or defrost food in a relatively short time. In contrast to conventional processes, the interior walls do not get hot. The removal of adhering splashed or overcooked food from these inner walls is therefore less problematic than cleaning conventional ovens or grills because of the normally shorter dwell times of the food in the appliance.
From the manufacturers of the microwave ovens it has been suggested to use mild detergents and lukewarm water to clean. Depending on the surface material, soft cloths, brushes or sponges were recommended as application aids. The use of sprays or aerosols should be avoided because of the risk of detergents getting into the electrical system or the magetron, as well as the use of aggressive or abrasive cleaners. To remove stubborn contaminants, it has previously been recommended that water be placed in a container in the interior and brought to the boil in order to soften and dissolve the contaminants with the help of water vapor. To compensate for unpleasant smells in the cooking space, boiling vinegar or lemon juice in the microwave oven has been proposed. Last but not least, these processes are unsatisfactory because they consist of several separate process steps, for which different devices and / or means (water vessel, sponge or cloth, cleaning agents, odor compensating agents) are also required.
The present invention therefore relates to a method for cleaning microwave devices in one operation, which also allows the removal of unpleasant odors from the cooking space without an additional method step, should this be desired. The method according to the invention consists in principle of placing a cloth moistened with an aqueous surfactant solution, which preferably contains a perfume, in the interior of the microwave oven, preferably on particularly heavily soiled areas, by adding water vapor in the cooking space to the moistened cloth generate and after a subsequent cooling time, during which the steam can condense and act on the dirt, wipe the interior with the cloth and then, if necessary, wipe the interior with the cloth rinsed with water. The method according to the invention leads to optimal cleaning results in comparison with conventional cleaning methods, which means significantly less work and time.
One embodiment of the cleaning method according to the invention consists of spreading a preferably damp cloth, which has previously been soaked in water and wrung out, on the bottom of the cooking space of the microwave oven, advantageously on particularly heavily soiled areas, and with an aqueous, preferably perfumed, surfactant solution, preferably in an amount of 10 up to 30 milliliters. Of course, it is also possible to apply the detergent solution to the cloth before introducing it into the microwave, for example by soaking the cloth in the detergent until it has preferably absorbed 10 to 30 milliliters of the detergent. The cloth is then briefly exposed to microwave radiation, preferably for about 30 to 90 seconds. The microwave device is preferably operated at maximum power during this time. In so-called combination devices which have a conventional heating in addition to the microwave heating, it is not necessary to switch on this conventional heating during the cleaning process according to the invention. After the switch-off, which usually takes place automatically, the steam is left to act on the dirt for a certain time, preferably 3 to 5 minutes, with the oven door closed. In the meantime the cloth cools down. Afterwards the loosened soiling of the cooking space is wiped off with a warm cloth. The cloth can then be washed out and can thus be used several times in the cleaning process according to the invention.
In principle, all absorbent cloths with a relatively large surface area, which consist of materials which are stable under microwave radiation, can be used in the cleaning method according to the invention. A single or multi-layered viscose cloth is preferably used. The size of the cloth to be used depends on the size of the interior of the microwave oven to be cleaned and on the type and extent of the removing pollution. The cloth size is preferably 200 to 800 square centimeters. The cloth must be able to use a certain amount of water, preferably about 30 to 50 grams, and a detergent, the amount of which depends on the size of the cooking space of the microwave oven to be cleaned and the type and extent of the dirt to be removed, and preferably 10 up to 30 mililiters. The cloth should have a good dirt-binding capacity in addition to being easy to rinse off.
The aqueous surfactant solution for use in the cleaning process according to the invention contains one or more, preferably readily degradable, nonionic and / or anionic surfactants, preferably of native origin, in amounts of preferably 0.2 to 1.0% by weight, based on the total cleaning agent solution . The anionic surfactants used are, in particular, those of the sulfate or sulfonate type, for example alkyl sulfates, sulfated alkyl polyethoxylates and alpha-sulfofatty acid esters. These anionic surfactants are preferably used in the form of their sodium salts. Among the nonionic surfactants which can be used in the cleaning process according to the invention are, in particular, alkyl glycosides and the addition products of ethylene oxide with compounds from the group consisting of fatty alcohols, fatty acids, fatty acid amides and alkyl glycosides.
Preferably, the cleaning agent solution to be used in the cleaning method according to the invention also contains perfume to compensate for any unpleasant smells in the interior of the microwave device, preferably in amounts of 0.05 to 0.4% by weight, based on the total cleaning agent solution. Preferred fragrance notes are fruity aromas from the food sector, such as apple or lemon.
In addition, the cleaning agent solutions can contain carboxylic acids with 1 to 3 carbon atoms, preferably acetic acid, to enhance the cleaning effect and to improve the odor compensation. If present, these acids are preferably present in amounts of not more than 3% by weight, particularly preferably not more than 1% by weight, based in each case on the total detergent solution.
In order to improve the detachment of the impurities when wiping, the cleaning agent solution can contain water-soluble, toxicologically harmless organic solvents in addition to the constituents mentioned. Preferred solvents of this type are selected from the groups of the glycol ethers and the lower alcohols. In particular, ethanol and / or isopropanol can be used. Such solvents, if present, are preferably present in amounts of not more than 10% by weight, in particular not more than 5% by weight, based in each case on the total detergent solution. When using such solvents in the cleaning agents of the process according to the invention, care must be taken that they are used, taking into account the stated quantity limits, only in such quantities that no ignitable gas mixtures form during the cleaning process according to the invention.

Mistake. The device was operated at maximum power (750 W) for 1 minute, after which the cloth remained in the switched off, closed device for 3 minutes. Finally, the entire inner surface of the cooking space was wiped with the warm, damp cloth. In the case of test soiling A , the interior of the microwave oven was then perfectly clean, in the case of test soiling B the cloth was washed out with clear water and the cooking space was wiped out again.
A cup with water (150 ml) was heated to maximum power (750 watts) in a microwave device contaminated with test stains A or B. In order to generate a quantity of steam comparable to the method according to the invention, heating times of at least 5 minutes were required. Subsequent wiping with a damp cloth resulted in a noticeably poorer cleaning performance than the method according to the invention. No odor compensation took place.
The cleaning of the cooking chamber contaminated with the test soiling A or B using a dampened cloth provided with a conventional cleaning agent, without prior dirt dissolution with superheated steam, was significantly more labor and time consuming than the method according to the invention, since the partially encrusted dirt is worse and resolved more slowly. There was no odor compensation.
