Abstract
Description
L' invention concerne un dispositif d'ascension le long des supports verticaux et un procédé d'adaptation naturelle et automatique à la forme et aux variations de dimensions du support .The invention relates to a device for ascending along vertical supports and a method of natural and automatic adaptation to the shape and to variations in dimensions of the support.
The device respects the fragility of the support (bark in the case of young trees, cables in the case of telecommunications or energy transport poles.
There are a significant number of Patents, many of which come from the U.S. Patent, describing devices describing the solutions studied in order to facilitate the ascent of Man on various vertical supports.
We will cite two Patents which will allow us to explain through the solutions provided, the various unsolved problems, problems which make these inventions have had no commercial outlet.
Frank FONTE's U.S. Patent No. 4,137,995 describes an ascent device made up of two alternative displacement platforms. A diamond-shaped device can move to the end of the frame and attempts to provide an embryonic and very approximate solution to the problems of adaptation to the size and shape of the support.
The main faults of this device are:
- not adaptable to any form of support,
- non-adaptation possible during the ascent to the variation of the size of the support, causing progressively ascent, an increasing play between the belt and the support, therefore a position more and more oblique of the platforms with respect to the support, making the use of this device dangerous during the elevation, (not catching up with variations in diameter of the support),
- does not allow the rotation of the device on the support,
- Failure to respect the fragility of the supports, due to the shape of the support surfaces which are jammed on said support by means of rigid metal plates.
The main merit of this device is to have given the principle of an alternate ascent using two locking platforms on the support and whose basic principle is safe (even if the described embodiment is not) .
US Patent No. 4,809,815 to Donald R. WALLACE, describes a manual device for climbing poles.
This type of device is very far from an industrial and secure type of device. Nevertheless, it offers the merit of proposing a device for belting up and down the tree or the post, like a belt holding pants, therefore to offer the idea of a solution to the problem of l adaptation to the shape of the support. But the elementary realization does not offer any technical interest.
The use of this device is more of an acrobatics than a safety device and should be avoided.
D'autres brevets décrivent des dispositifs d'ascension, assez proches des dispositifs précédents. Citons :
- DE-C- 3 727 387 (SWOBODA),
- DE-C- 829 107 (A. MUSCHTER),
- U.S.A 1 915 715 (H. BODENDIECK).Other patents describe ascension devices, fairly close to the previous devices. Let us quote:
- FR-A- 2 627 175 (KOMET), practically identical in all respects to that of F. FONTE,
- DE-C- 3 727 387 (SWOBODA),
- DE-C- 829 107 (A. MUSCHTER),
- USA 1 915 715 (H. BODENDIECK).
None of these patents addresses and a fortiori attempts to resolve the delicate and difficult question of automatic diameter adjustment and natural adaptation to any type of support, without injury to said support, a basic problem to be solved in order to have a universal device. Other problems relating to the industrial aspect are grafted.
It is to all of these unsolved problems that the present invention proposes to provide solutions, which will make this device a real climbing device, industrial type, very safe.
The problem we posed can be summarized as follows:
- from a device comprising two platforms, the first, in the lower position, intended to accommodate the feet of the user during his vertical station, the second serving as a protective platform, possibly a seat for work, it is envisaged a manual device, the use of which remains at the free disposal of the climber, who by means of a single action on a suitable device, will allow the elongation or shortening of the belt devices and simultaneously blocking the platform , in a horizontal position, perpendicular to the axis of the support, to ensure safety.
In addition, the various locking and unlocking devices of the platforms can only be ordered under precise operating conditions: always stopped, never in motion.
Note that the double intention of adapting to the shape of the support, and of not injuring said support obliges us to eliminate all rigid belt systems (in particular all those described in the cited patents), or those whose texture risks , despite the flexibility, to damage the support. Thus, this amounts to eliminating a belt belt, which initially seemed to be suitable because it combined rigidity and flexibility in the horizontal plane, excluding that of the vertical plane. By analogy, a solution comprising steel cables, joined by fishplates, has been successfully tested, but does not completely guarantee compliance with the support.
If you are considering belts or straps, the support will not be injured, but the horizontal holding will leave something to be desired.
This is why we opted for a mixed solution comprising a flexible structure and a frame. We have thus successfully tested two solutions comprising
- the first two small steel cables, sewn inside two straps, strap of a common type used in safety systems,
- the second a single strap, 2 to 3 mm thick and 2 cm wide, strap reinforced with a layer of elastomer, of polyurethane type, of variable thickness from 2 to 3 mm.
Thus, we obtained, a material perfectly adapted to the solution of the double problem posed:
- it is flexible enough to perfectly fit any type of support,
- it offers good hold in the horizontal plane, hold necessary to slide along the support during ascent.
It should be noted that, in the first solution, the steel cables could have been replaced by cables made of Kevlar or any other very high-strength textile, but the vertical hold would be lessened.
Another solution could have been to use so-called synchronous belts, because they have internal Kevlar (or other) reinforcing threads which give them unequaled solidity.
We preferred the strap solution armed with an elastomer.
Fig. 1 shows the device and the different routes of the belts, as will be explained below.
The bottom belt cannot be provided by the same device because the straps which have to move inside the rounded tubes cannot easily do so. In this case, we opted for a mixed solution comprising a short bearing surface consisting of a reinforced strap extended by a reinforced rope, a rope allowing easy sliding inside the rounded frame.
In the case of use or the fragility of the support is essential, we can always cover the strap device with a removable protective rubber sleeve.
Description d'une plateforme.Description of a platform.
Each platform is made up according to Fig. 1:
- two lateral uprights, in an ovoid shape (5) similar to that of a sledge.
- top and bottom belting devices,
- devices for the feet and for sitting.
Chaque plateforme doit permettre :
Each platform must allow:
- natural adaptation to the shape of the support, without damaging it. By its principle, it greatly improves the fixing of the platform on the support by being one with it,
- the permanent lengthening and shortening of the belt devices (Fig. 3), during ascent or during descent, so that the platform is constantly perpendicular to the axis of the support, giving permanent horizontal stability to the 'platform + Man, regardless of the variation in support diameter, since there is no longer any play between the belt and the support.
- a natural and automatic blocking ensuring the greatest security so that any untimely unlocking is prohibited during the ascent, or the descent, or when the platform is positioned.
The position of the platform cannot be changed:
. by taking full support on the other platform.
. by actuating the locking system and, simultaneously, pulling it back, which naturally excludes any false maneuver, or any stall, when the user is in the working position, since the weight of the user does not only reinforces the wedging effect of the platform on the support.
On the other hand, if the climber is on the platform, he will not be able to pull it back.
Principe de fonctionnement d'une plateforme.(Fig. 1):Principle of operation of a platform (Fig. 1):
The user drops the 1 st platform at the foot of the support (shaft, mast, pole, ...) opens the latch (9) of junction of the upper strap (1) and surrounds the support with armed strap, then closes the strap hooking lock.
We can then circulate (or slide) vertically the platform along the vertical support, since we have taken the precaution to leave a clearance allowing to release the platform from the support.
Then the platform being positioned at height, the operator actuates the lateral rack locking bolt (s) (8). By opening, the retaining pin (15) releases the rack, retained by an elastic of the bungee cord type (12). attached to a fixed point (11). The rack starts a recoil stopped when the double top (1) and bottom (3) half-belt conforms very exactly to the shape of the support (Fig. 3 and 4), as well as the lateral ovoid uprights (5).
The user can then release the latch (17) and the rack locking pin (15) is then positioned in one of the notches of the rack (2), thus blocking the entire moving assembly and ensuring the desired security.
Pour échapper la crémaillère, le tenon (15) vient se loger en (14)A spring (13) keeps the body of the lock pulled down, the latter pivoting about its axis (18). To escape the rack, the tenon (15) is housed in (14)
Remarquons bien que ce n'est pas l'élastique qui tient la crémaillère en position, mais l'ensemble crémaillère (2), tenon (15) et ressort (13).Note that it is not the elastic that holds the rack in position, but the rack assembly (2), lug (15) and spring (13).
We note the double movement:
- that of the reinforced strap in the high position (1) of the platform, and that of the reinforced rope (3), associated, corresponding to the diametrically opposite belt, but in the low position.
- that of the two uprights (5) which come together until they come substantially into contact with the support (28 and 29), thereby improving the hold of the whole platform with the support, since the latter is now integral with this one.
The whole of the platform (5), of the belt (reinforced straps and rope 1 and 3) and lateral uprights (5) actively participate in the effort of holding the platform on said support.
Les deux montants ovoïdes (5) de la plateforme, s'ils sont sollicités en ce sens par l'opérateur vont donc s'écarter latéralement selon les directions (24 et 25).Conversely, when the ascent has occurred, and in the event of a variation in diameter, the operator must unlock the platform from its locked position on the support. He presses on the rack locking bolt (17), at the same time, he pulls back on the uprights (5) of the platform to bring the racks forward, in order to give slack to the top and bottom belts . This amounts to shifting slightly the axis of the platform towards the axis of the vertical support, thus enlarging the circumference of the belt relative to that of the support. The two ovoid uprights (5) of the platform, if they are urged in this direction by the operator will therefore deviate laterally in the directions (24 and 25).
This shows the perfect achievement of the objective set:
automatic take-up (by desired release of the latch (17) and the tenon (15) to variations in the diameter of the support and the natural adaptation to the shape and size of the support.
It can be seen that the device remains constantly in close contact with the support, the axis of the support (01-02) remains the same whatever the variations in diameter thereof, the platform remains horizontal and substantially perpendicular to the support, which leads to a perfectly secure working position, security which does not depend on the diameter, the shape of the support, or the height of the platform on the support.
We can distinguish the two platforms (6 and 7), the ovoid uprights (5) with the diameter take-up racks (2), the locking latches (8), the high (1) and low (3) belts, as well as the base (6) and seat (7) parts. The latch (9) joins the two parts of the upper belt (1).
-
L'arrière de la crémaillère est attaché en (16) à un cable élastique (12), cable lui-même relié en un point fixe (11).Fig. 2 shows a three-quarter front view in order to specify what is the path of the various parts intended for the belt of the support, and in particular the entry (21) of the low belt in the rounding of the ovoid uprights (5).
The rack (2) is held by the latch retainer (19), the latch release handle (17) with its axis of rotation (18) its return spring (13), and the latching axis of the spring (19).
The rear of the rack is attached at (16) to an elastic cable (12), the cable itself connected at a fixed point (11). Figs. 3 and 4 show a diagram of adaptation of the device to different support diameters, as well as the position of the junction piece (23) of the two ovoid uprights (5), which allows the lateral uprights to approach or to s '' move away from the support.
3 and 4 show the position of the racks inside the uprights according to the diameter of the support and the direction of movement of the different parts of the device during a diameter take-up operation.
We also note that the
The two sides (5) pivot on pivots (22), fixing of a device (23) for securing the lateral uprights. By removing one of the pivots (22), and by removing the base or the seat, the two uprights can be folded against each other allowing the transport of the device without difficulty.
Claims (3)
- by natural adaptation to the shape of the support by choosing a high belt (1) in the form of a semi-circumference external to the support, consisting of a strap reinforced with a layer of elastomer, of the same thickness,
- by the choice of a low belt, in the form of an internal half-circumference (3), also consisting of a strap covered with a layer of elastomer and extended on both sides by a cord armed with a steel cable, in order to best fit the rounded part of the ovoid uprights (5) and connected with the high belt (1) at the bolt (9),
- by an automatic process for taking up variations in the diameter of the support, by means of the two previous high and low belts and a fixed lock device (8) and movable rack (2), fixed on each of the uprights (5) and intended to adapt the top and bottom belts to the diameter of the support, during an action of the operator on the handle (17) of the lock.
Un des pivots (22) de la barre de jonction (23) peut être retiré afin de replier l'appareil sur lui-même.3- Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the rack (2) movable back and forth inside the upper horizontal upright on one side of the device (5), is connected to an elastic cable ( 12) by means of a fixing (16). This elastic cable is attached to a fixed point (11) of the lower lateral upright: it tends to pull the rack back. The other end of the rack is attached to the two upper and lower belts (1 and 3); the rack will pull on them and force them to close as much as possible on the vertical support, and thus tend towards the minimum diameter, on the express condition that the operator actuates the handle (17) of the lock (8). To do this, the operator must lift the platform in order to disengage the belts from the support: by pulling back on the side pillars (5), and keeping the latches lowered (17) he can increase the diameter of the support's belt ( 26 and 27). The uprights (5) can deviate in the directions (24 and 25), but the centers 01 and 02 (Fig. 4) remain combined: the axis of the support therefore remains the same and is independent of variations in diameter of the support .
By moving away, the uprights (5) pivot around the pivots (22) of the crosspiece (23) joining the two sides of the device. The end (28) of the uprights remains in close contact with the vertical support, thereby helping to improve the overall stability of the assembly.
One of the pivots (22) of the junction bar (23) can be removed in order to fold the device back on itself.
