- the wings of the ribbon are notched so as to form, in the example described, six sections each comprising a back 4 and wings 5a and 5b.
- Each wing, such as 5a has a general isosceles trapezoidal shape, with the small base on the outside and the large base on the inside, near the electric cable 3.
- the angle made, with the axis of symmetry of the trapezoid, the lateral sides of the trapezium is around 20 °. It will be noted that, in the case where there are six sections in a bend, this angle must be greater than 15 ° to avoid, inside the bend, the systematic superpositions of wings of adjacent sections.
- Fig. 2 also shows that, under the large base, each wing is extended inward by a rectangular part, that is to say whose edges are perpendicular to the electric cable.
- Fig. 3 shows that between two successive sections, a notch between two wings extends along the lateral part of the ribbon, up to about halfway up the electrical cable 3, the back 4 of the ribbon not being cut. As a result, by its back 4, the ribbon remains uninterrupted, whether on the straight segments or on the elbows. In this way, the cable 3 is never stripped up and the ribbon continues to fully play its role as a heat diffuser, even in the elbows, avoiding any hotter point.
- the straps 6 and 7 are inextensible. They can be, for example, made up of two ribbons of resistant plastic material glued one against the other between the segments, and the two faces of the rectilinear segments being respectively glued one under the upper ribbon and the other on the lower ribbon.
- Small holes such as 8, can be punched in the wings of the tape, to allow the installation of thumbtacks, the rod of which hangs in the insulating layer below the cable, after the cable has been laid.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to electric heating cables with heat diffuser and, more particularly, to prefabricated networks formed with such cables.
Electric heating cables with heat diffusing tape are described in document EP-A-225 835. In this document, the tape, a good conductor of heat, has a longitudinal groove in which is housed and maintained the electric cable which is in intimate contact with the internal face of the throat of the ribbon. This one has regularly spaced transverse slots, which give the whole a certain flexibility and allow its winding on a reel. In addition, the slots constitute sorts of pre-cuts that the cable installer can finish to allow rotations in the general plane of the ribbon.
To equip a heated floor, the cable provided with its ribbon is placed in successive parallel segments by making it perform a 180 ° change of direction at the ends of each segment. Direction change bends are made on site by cutting parts of the edges of the tape near the slots in the affected areas. Furthermore, to keep the segments parallel during installation, it is necessary to provide transverse metal strips on which the segments are stapled as and when they are laid. It therefore takes appreciable time to equip a surface. For example, to equip a 40 m² room, it takes between two and three hours.
Document US-A-3,209,128 describes a heating cable shaped as a sinuous line, each cycle of which comprises a bend in a first direction, followed by a first rectilinear segment, followed by a bend in the second direction, followed by a second rectilinear segment, the cycles being connected and the electric cable proper being uninterrupted.
An object of the present invention to provide a network arrangement of a ribbon diffuser cable to facilitate installation and make it significantly faster.
- Fig. 1 is a top view of a portion of a network of prefabricated heating cables according to the invention,
- Fig. 2 is a top view, on a larger scale, of the structure of an elbow of the network of FIG. 1, and
- Fig. 3 is a side view of part of the elbow of FIG. 2.
The electric heating cable with heat diffusing tape of FIG. 1 is in the form of a sinuous line with parallel rectilinear segments connected by rounded elbows. In practice, we can consider that the sinuous line is formed by a series of identical cycles, where each cycle comprises a
In Figs. 1 and 2, the cable of the invention is shown seen from above, which means that we see the back of the diffuser tape, with a central part enclosing more than 180 ° of the
In the
Fig. 2 also shows that, under the large base, each wing is extended inward by a rectangular part, that is to say whose edges are perpendicular to the electric cable. Fig. 3 shows that between two successive sections, a notch between two wings extends along the lateral part of the ribbon, up to about halfway up the
As still shown in FIG. 1, two
In practice, to produce the cable of the invention, one starts with an electric heating cable coated with a continuous heat-diffusing tape, notches are cut at predetermined locations so as to produce the sections of the elbows, then fold the segments in one direction or the other alternately, respecting the shape of the elbows, and finally the adhesive tapes forming the strips are applied continuously.
Depending on the desired thermal power per unit area, more or less closely spaced notches are provided in the elbows to vary their diameters, so as to vary the mutual distance between the straight segments.
Of course, if having extended in a direction a network such as that of FIG. 1, we want to continue to extend it but in the other direction, it is enough at the point of change of direction to manually straighten an elbow to align two successive segments. Note that the network in Fig. 1 can be supplied wound on a reel in the direction of
Small holes, such as 8, can be punched in the wings of the tape, to allow the installation of thumbtacks, the rod of which hangs in the insulating layer below the cable, after the cable has been laid.
