Definitions
- the present invention relates to a two-layer, heat-sealable nonwoven having the features of the preamble of claim 1.
- US-A 4,490,427 describes an inherently stable heat-sealing tape, built up from a parallel group of thermoplastic softenable threads, which are thematically connected to one another via tangled thermoplastic fibers.
- Polymer fibers made from materials which have a melting point below 150 ° C., such as co-, ter- or higher polymers of polyamides or polyesters, for example a terpolymer made of nylon 6, nylon 66 and nylon 12, are preferably used.
- the tensile strength of this product is not achievable sufficient in all applications, as the following comparison of staple fibers (source: E. Wagner, Die textile Rohstoffe, DFV Frankfurt (Main), (1981)) with the above-mentioned thermoplastic fibers (own measurements) shows: The low values of the latter fibers are due to the low crystallinity or low orientation towards stretching.
- US Pat. No. 4,440,819 specifies a fiber arrangement in which unidirectionally directed, high-tensile high-modulus fibers, preferably mineral fibers, are melt-bonded to one another by means of polymeric tangled fibers.
- this layer can be impregnated with resin and laminated to form a multi-layer laminate. It has been shown, however, that such laminates lack the required longitudinal elongation capacity, particularly in the case of grammages above 40 g / m 2.
- GB-B 1,117,751 describes the production of a heat-sealable stiffening material, thermoplastic fibers preferably being extruded onto a continuously moving nonwoven carrier and being fused to one another and to the carrier.
- the carrier consists of silicone paper that can be removed from the fiber mat.
- This problem is solved, starting from the prior art shown in GB-B 1,117,751, in a nonwoven fabric with the characterizing features of claim 1.
- the subclaims indicate preferred embodiments.
- the first layer of the nonwoven fabric according to the invention can consist of randomly arranged thermoplastic polymer filaments or of parallel thermoplastic polymer filaments, the latter being melt-bonded to one another by randomly deposited thermoplastic filaments, as indicated in the aforementioned US Pat. No. 4,490,427.
- the fibers of the second, heat-sealable layer can be solidified with one another as desired. B. by application of heat and / or pressure, by polymeric binder dispersions or by combinations of the types of consolidation mentioned.
- suitable fiber materials are the known in the case of single-layer, iron-on nonwovens (US Pat. No. 4,490,427) co-, ter- or higher polyesters, such polyamides or polyvinyl chloride, such as, for. B. a terpolymer of nylon 6, nylon 66 and nylon 12.
- the melting point of these fibers according to the invention must be in the range of 75 to 140 ° C and lower than that of the non-binding fibers.
- thermoplastic, bindable fibers and filaments in the entire nonwoven composite must be between 40 and 98% by weight.
- the weight per unit area of the second heat-sealable nonwoven layer preferably makes up 5 to 60% of that of the overall composite.
- the heat-sealable second nonwoven layer has irregularly distributed openings of 0.5 to 5 mm in width and 1 to 50 mm in length with a width / length ratio of 1:20 to 1: 100.
- the spacing of the openings from one another can be varied over a wide range down to fiber thickness dimensions, as can the size of the openings.
- This advantageous embodiment allows heat and pressure to act on the nonwoven fabric so that it can penetrate on all sides with the heat-sealable components; the composite thus behaves like a single-layer, heat-sealable nonwoven.
- the manufacturing process for the nonwoven fabric according to the invention is advantageously carried out analogously to the extrusion or meltblowing process described at the beginning, described in GB-B 1,117,751, the first nonwoven fabric layer forming the continuously moving textile backing on which the second heat-sealable fiber layer is permanently fixed.
- the heat-sealable composite according to the invention has a surprisingly improved tensile strength, good adhesion to outer materials, such as. Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a two-layer, heat-sealable nonwoven having the features of the preamble of
No. 4,440,819 specifies a fiber arrangement in which unidirectionally directed, high-tensile high-modulus fibers, preferably mineral fibers, are melt-bonded to one another by means of polymeric tangled fibers. In a preferred embodiment, this layer can be impregnated with resin and laminated to form a multi-layer laminate. It has been shown, however, that such laminates lack the required longitudinal elongation capacity, particularly in the case of grammages above 40 g / m 2.
Alternativ besteht der Träger aus von der Fasermatte abziehbarem Silikonpapier.GB-B 1,117,751 describes the production of a heat-sealable stiffening material, thermoplastic fibers preferably being extruded onto a continuously moving nonwoven carrier and being fused to one another and to the carrier. Alternatively, the carrier consists of silicone paper that can be removed from the fiber mat.
The meltblowing of fibers, as described in DE-PS 23 34 741 (= US-A 3,825,380), is also suitable for the production.
Typical basis weights of all the known thin nonwoven materials described above, preferably made up as tapes 10 to 13 mm wide, are 20 to 80 g / m 2. They lack the required tensile strength. Heavier and therefore firmer versions, e.g. the laminates just mentioned are possible; however, they have an unfavorably increased brittleness. All of these properties of known belts have a negative effect particularly when used in high-speed processing machines.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a heat-sealable two-layer nonwoven fabric which can be processed without damage even with high-speed devices and which, in particular also in the form of a tape, shows neither too low a tensile strength nor too high brittleness over a weight range of 10 to 180 g / m 2 . This problem is solved, starting from the prior art shown in GB-B 1,117,751, in a nonwoven fabric with the characterizing features of
The first layer of the nonwoven fabric according to the invention can consist of randomly arranged thermoplastic polymer filaments or of parallel thermoplastic polymer filaments, the latter being melt-bonded to one another by randomly deposited thermoplastic filaments, as indicated in the aforementioned US Pat. No. 4,490,427.
The fibers of the second, heat-sealable layer can be solidified with one another as desired. B. by application of heat and / or pressure, by polymeric binder dispersions or by combinations of the types of consolidation mentioned. For the heat sealability of the second layer, suitable fiber materials are the known in the case of single-layer, iron-on nonwovens (US Pat. No. 4,490,427) co-, ter- or higher polyesters, such polyamides or polyvinyl chloride, such as, for. B. a terpolymer of nylon 6, nylon 66 and nylon 12. In any case, the melting point of these fibers according to the invention must be in the range of 75 to 140 ° C and lower than that of the non-binding fibers.
The total of all thermoplastic, bindable fibers and filaments in the entire nonwoven composite must be between 40 and 98% by weight.
The weight per unit area of the second heat-sealable nonwoven layer preferably makes up 5 to 60% of that of the overall composite.
In a further preferred embodiment, the heat-sealable second nonwoven layer has irregularly distributed openings of 0.5 to 5 mm in width and 1 to 50 mm in length with a width / length ratio of 1:20 to 1: 100.
The spacing of the openings from one another can be varied over a wide range down to fiber thickness dimensions, as can the size of the openings. This advantageous embodiment allows heat and pressure to act on the nonwoven fabric so that it can penetrate on all sides with the heat-sealable components; the composite thus behaves like a single-layer, heat-sealable nonwoven.
The manufacturing process for the nonwoven fabric according to the invention is advantageously carried out analogously to the extrusion or meltblowing process described at the beginning, described in GB-B 1,117,751, the first nonwoven fabric layer forming the continuously moving textile backing on which the second heat-sealable fiber layer is permanently fixed.
The heat-sealable composite according to the invention has a surprisingly improved tensile strength, good adhesion to outer materials, such as. As cotton / polyester, polyester, nylon or cotton, and easier to manufacture, without the need for an intermediate support layer. These improved properties extend the field of application of such a nonwoven composite to those cases where high tensile strengths are absolutely necessary and where the previous heat-sealable nonwovens had to fail.
The figure attached is the photographic top view of the second layer of the nonwoven according to the invention, the scale is 1: 0.97.
The following examples are intended to show variations in the structure and possible manufacturing processes for the nonwoven composite according to the invention.
A 12 g / m² nonwoven was made by carding a mixture of 30% by weight thermally adhesive copolyester fibers (3.5 den at 38 mm stack length, melting point at 130 ° C.) and 70% by weight polyethylene terephthalate staple fibers (3.0 manufactured at 50 mm stack length). The fibers were bonded using a commercially available polymer binder dispersion based on polyester. It was then dried with a set of multiple steam-heated drying cylinders at a closing pressure of 1.41 to 2.11 kp / cm² (20 to 30 psi).
