Definitions

  • the invention relates to a pressure roller for a labeling device for attaching self-adhesive labels, having a cylindrical inner sleeve, a cylindrical outer sleeve, the inner diameter of which is larger than the outer diameter of the inner sleeve, the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve being connected to one another.
  • Such a pinch roller is described in IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin, Vol. 18, No. 7, December 1975, pages 2256-2257, IBM Corp., New York, US; D.L. Pierson: "Label attachment machine” known.
  • This known pressure roller is constructed from a plurality of disks seated side by side on an axis, which can individually give in a direction running perpendicular to their axial direction.
  • the individual disks no longer come into contact with the entire outer circumferential surfaces of the label, since the special connection between the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve hardly makes it possible for the outer sleeve to tilt with respect to the bearing axis.
  • the multi-part design of the pressure roller is unfavorable because of the need to hold and assemble several parts when replacing the roller.
  • a bearing for a roll is known, the ends of which are each connected to an axis via a separate bearing member.
  • the bearing member consists of an outer sleeve carrying the roller and an inner sleeve surrounding the bearing axis, the two sleeves being connected to one another by an intermediate sleeve.
  • the problem of tilting the roll relative to the bearing axis is not addressed.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a pressure roller of the type described above, with which the flexibility necessary for attaching a label to the surface can be achieved with the use of a minimal number of components, wherein the use of a hard material as a roller material is also possible .
  • this object is achieved in that for connecting the inner sleeve to the outer sleeve there is provided an intermediate sleeve formed integrally with these two sleeves, which runs at a radial distance between the two sleeves and is connected at one end to the inner sleeve and at the other end to the outer sleeve is.
  • the pressure roller according to the invention can also carry out adaptation movements to the surface of an object to be labeled when a simple circular cylindrical steel axis is mounted, for example when it is placed canted on this surface.
  • the pressure roller material can easily be so hard that there is no risk of the label being smeared on the label to be attached.
  • the intermediate sleeve with the special type of connection with the outer sleeve and the inner sleeve ensures the flexibility of the pressure roller.
  • the pressure roller can not only adapt to surfaces running obliquely to the bearing axis, but it can also be displaced parallel to this axis, which results in a certain damping effect if the operator brings the pressure roller into contact with the surface to be labeled quickly and with momentum.
  • the pressure roller can be inserted into the labeling device without the need for a separate bearing axis; the shaft journals engage in the bearing openings, which are provided for receiving the otherwise necessary bearing axis.
  • the labeling device shown in FIG. 1 is only described as an example of a device in which the pressure roller to be explained in more detail below can be used.
  • the illustration is only carried out schematically and shows only the components necessary for understanding the mode of operation of the labeling device.
  • a housing 1 to which a handle 2 is attached.
  • a shaft 3 for receiving a supply roll 4 of a carrier tape 5 with self-adhesive labels 6 adhering to it.
  • the carrier tape 5 runs in the device from the shaft 3 first downward and then after a deflection on a roll 7 forward to a dispensing edge 8 , on which the carrier tape 5 is deflected and guided past a schematically illustrated transport device 9 to the rear end of the housing.
  • a pressure roller 10 is rotatably mounted in the housing 1 about an axis 11, with which a label 6 'detached from the carrier tape 5 on the dispensing edge 8 and in the dispensing position can be glued to an object by rolling off the pressure roller 10.
  • An operating lever 12 is mounted below the handle 2 and is rotatably mounted about an axis 13. Between the handle 2 and the operating lever 12 there is a spring 14 which always tries to push the operating lever 12 into the rest position shown in FIG. 1.
  • a printing unit lever 15 In the housing 1 there is also a printing unit lever 15, which is also rotatably mounted about the axis 13.
  • This printing unit 15 carries a printing unit 16, by means of which a self-adhesive label 6 located on a printing table 17 can be printed.
  • a spring 19 is attached between an arm 18 of the operating lever 12 and the printing unit lever 15 and serves to transmit a movement of the operating lever 12 directed against the handle 2 to the printing unit lever 15. In the rest position shown in FIG. 1, the printing unit lever 15 is held in the raised position by a lug 20 on the operating lever 12.
  • the spring 14 moves the operating lever back into the starting position shown in FIG. 1, the nose 20 pivoting the printing unit lever 15 again clockwise about the axis 13 into its starting position shown.
  • the transport device 9 is also moved back into its starting position shown in FIG. 1; during this movement, however, it is firmly engaged with the carrier tape 5, so that it is pulled around the dispensing edge 8 by a distance corresponding to the length of a self-adhesive label.
  • a self-adhesive label detaches from the carrier tape 5 and reaches the position of the self-adhesive label 6 'below the pressure roller 10.
  • FIG. 2 shows a first embodiment of a pressure roller 210 for use in the device of FIG. 1. It can also be seen how this pressure roller 210 is mounted in the device.
  • the pressure roller 210 has an inner sleeve 211, an outer sleeve 212 and an intermediate sleeve 213.
  • the outer sleeve 212 is provided with projections 214 which surround the outer sleeve like a ring. These projections 214 prevent the entire circumferential surface of the outer sleeve 212 from coming into contact with the label to be applied in each case, so that the printing previously applied to the label is not impaired.
  • the intermediate sleeve 213 is connected at one end to the inner sleeve 211 and at the other end to the outer sleeve 212.
  • the intermediate sleeve 213 is at a radial distance from these two sleeves, which enables the outer sleeve 212 to be movable relative to the inner sleeve 211.
  • the outer sleeve 212 can be moved parallel to the axis 215, but such a displacement is also possible that the outer peripheral surface of the outer sleeve 212 extends obliquely to the axis 215. In this way, a good adaptation of the pressure roller 210 to the surface to which the self-adhesive label 6 'is to be glued is possible.
  • the inner sleeve 211 is seated on a bearing axis 216 which is mounted in corresponding bearing bushes 217, 218 in the housing 1 of the device of FIG. 1.
  • the bearing axis 216 required for the embodiment of the pressure roller 210 of FIG. 2 is a simple steel pin that does not have to be designed in a special way in order to achieve the desired flexibility and adaptability of the pressure roller 210.
  • the pressure roller 310 also consists of an inner sleeve 311, an outer sleeve 312 and an intermediate sleeve 313.
  • the intermediate sleeve 313 is connected at one end to the inner sleeve 311 and at the other end to the outer sleeve 312.
  • the pressure roller 310 has the same flexibility and adaptability as the pressure roller 210 from FIG. 2.
  • 318 can be stored in the housing 1 of the device of FIG. 1. In this embodiment, no separate bearing axis is therefore required for the pressure roller 310, so that one component can be saved.
  • FIG. 4 shows a third embodiment of a pressure roller 410.
  • This pressure roller 410 essentially corresponds to the pressure roller 210 of FIG. 2; only the intermediate sleeve 413 is designed in a different way. While in the embodiments of Figures 2 and 3, the ends of the intermediate sleeve 213 and 313 each run at an acute angle against the inner sleeves 311 and 312 and the outer sleeves 212 and 311 and are then connected to them, so that the intermediate sleeves 213,313 thus the shape 4, the intermediate sleeve 413 runs almost parallel to the inner sleeve 411 and the outer sleeve 412.
  • the ends of the inner sleeve 413 are each connected to the inner sleeve 411 and the outer sleeve 412 via an arc piece 421 and 422, respectively.
  • the embodiment of the pressure roller 410 of FIG. 4 like the embodiment of FIG. 2, requires the use of its own bearing axis for storage in the labeling device.
  • the use of an intermediate sleeve to connect the inner sleeve to the outer sleeve and the special type of connection of the intermediate sleeve to the respective inner sleeve and the respective outer sleeve results in the desired flexibility of the pressure roller, which is necessary for a clean application of a label to a surface.
  • the pressure roller can be made of a hard material, as is desirable if smearing of the imprints on the labels is to be avoided.
  • the intermediate sleeves each have closed outer surfaces, but this need not necessarily be the case.
  • the intermediate sleeves can also have perforated peripheral surfaces, so that only web-like connecting strips remain for the connection between the respective inner sleeves and the outer sleeves. However, this does not change the intended mode of action.
