Abstract

A folder assembly for book folding in a web-fed rotary printing machine is disclosed. A paper web is printed and is then directed to a cutting cylinder, a cooperating folding blade cylinder and to a folding jaw cylinder. A pair of third or quarter folders are coordinated to the folding jaw cylinder. An upper one of these third folders is fixed and receives cross folded signatures from the folding jaw cylinder. A lower one of these third folders is shiftable laterally with respect to the upper third folder generally in a horizontal plane which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the folding jaw cylinder. A gripper cylinder is positioned intermediate the folding jaw cylinder and a transport tape system which is shiftable with, and which conveys signatures from the gripper cylinder to the lower third folder. Both upper and lower third folders can be operated concurrently or either one can be operated by itself in response to desired production demands.

Die linken Falzklappen 15 werden in bekannter Weise so gesteuert, daß jede Klappe 15 an das erste Transportbandsystem 32 abgibt und daß jede rechte Falzklappe 20 an die Greiferreihen 31 des Greiferzylinders 28 die Signaturen abgibt, von wo sie anschließend an das dritte und vierte Transportbändersystem 37, 38 übergegeben werden. Das vierte Transportbändersystem 38 transportiert die einmal quergefalzten Signaturen in die untere "Dritte-Falz-"Einrichtung 39 wo die Signaturen des unteren Signaturenstromes ihren ersten Längsfalz erhalten und damit das fertige Falzprodukt entstanden ist, das auf den Ausgangstransportbändern 42 abgelegt wird. Sie haben die Form wie in Fig. 4A dargestellt. Vom Falzklappenzylinder 24 werden einmal quergefalzte Signaturen - wie oben beschrieben - an das erste Transportbändersystem 32 und von da an das zweite zweite Transportbändersystem 33 abgegeben. Die untere "Dritte-Falz"-Einrichtung 39 wird so zur festen oberen "Dritte-Falz"-Einrichtung 36 verschoben, daß beide Falzlinien in einer gemeinsamen senkrechten Ebene liegen. Die Papierbahn 1 wird nicht seitlich neben dem Längsfalztrichter 7 vorbeigeführt, sondern läuft über den Längsfalztrichter 7. Die Falzmesser 23 sind so gesteuert, daß die Signaturen in die linken Falzklappen 15 des Falzklappenzylinders 24 übergeben werden. Die rechten Falzklappen 20 werden stillgesetzt. Die linken Falzklappen 15 werden gesteuert wie bei Produktionsart "A". Ebenso ist der Transport über die Transportbändersysteme 32, 33, 37, 38 und die Verarbeitung in den "Dritte-Falz"-Einrichtungen 36, 39 gleich. Die mittels des Längsfalztrichters 7 und Trichterfalzwalzenpaar 10 längsgefalzte aufgeschnittene oder nicht aufgeschnittene Bahn 1 wird von dem Zugwalzenpaar 8 gezogen, anschließend in der Längsperforier- bzw. Rilleinrichtung 11 perforiert bzw. gerillt, anschließend von den Schneidmessern 19 des Schneidzylinders 14 in einmal längsgefalzte Signaturen geschnitten. Die steuerbaren Punktursysteme 22 nadeln die Signaturen auf den Punktur- und Falzmesserzylinder 16 auf. Die gesteuerten Falzmesser 23 drücken die Signaturen zum ersten Querfalz in die linken Falzklappen 15 des ersten Falzklappenzylinders 24. Die linken Falzklappen 15 werden so gesteuert, daß die erste und dritte Klappe 15 an das erste Transportbandsystem 32, und die zweite und vierte linke Falzklappe 15 an den Greiferzylinder 28 abgibt. Die Signaturweiche 34 kann nun wahlweise in folgende Arbeitsstellungen gebracht werden:

  • I: An- und Abstellen der Signaturweiche 34 im Takt der ankommenden Signaturen. Dies hat zur Folge, daß jede zweite Signatur an das erste Transportbändersystem 32 abgegeben wird. Die restlichen werden auf den Greiferzylinder 28 übergeben.
  • 11: Signaturweiche 34 dauernd an den Falzklappenzylinder 24 angestellt. Sämtliche Signaturen werden an das erste Transportbändersystem 32 übergeben. 111: Signaturweiche 34 dauernd von Falzklappenzylinder 24 abgestellt. Sämtliche Signaturen werden an den Greiferzylinder 28 abgegeben und damit an das dritte Transportbändersystem.

  • Fig. 4C zeigt eine Signatur mit einem ersten Längsfalz (= Trichterfalz), einem ersten Querfalz und einem zweiten Längsfalz (= "Dritter Falz), hergestellt in Produktionsstellung E mit Druckwerken, deren Zylinder doppelten Umfang aufweisen.

Claims (4)

1. Folder assembly (2) for book folding in a web- fed rotary printing machine, having a longitudinal fold former (7), a number of feed rollers, a crosscutting device, having a pin-holing and folding blade cylinder (16) which cooperates with a folding jaw cylinder (24), having two "third fold" devices (36, 39) arranged above one another on different planes and two transport systems (32, 33; 37, 38) arranged on different planes between folding assembly cylinder and "third fold" device, characterised in that a longitudinal cutting device (9) which can optionally be replaced by a longitudinal perforating or scoring device (11) is provided, in that a gripper cylinder (28) cooperating with the folding jaw cylinder (24) is provided, in that between the folding jaw cylinder (24) and the first upper transport belt system (32) there is arranged a controllable signature switch (34) which can be switched off, in that the "third fold" device (36) arranged on the higher plane cannot be shifted, and in that the "third fold" device (39) arranged on the lower plane is arranged to be displaceable and lockable horizontal and parallel to the axis of rotation of the folding jaw cylinder (24).
2. Folder assembly according to Claim 1, characterised in that the folding jaw cylinder (24) is provided with folding jaw systems (26) divided into left and right folding jaws (15, 20) of half the length of the cylinder, and in that the left (15) and right (20) folding jaws are controllable independently of each other.
3. Folder assembly according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that each transport system (32, 33; 37, 38) has two transport belt systems (32, 33; 37, 38), in that the first (32; 37) of each has the peripheral speed of the folding jaw cylinder (24), and that the second transport belt system (33; 38) of each, moving towards the "third fold" device (36; 39) has a substantially slower transport speed than the first (32; 37) of each.
4. Folder assembly according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the folding jaw cylinder (24) is constructed as a collecting cylinder.
