Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the heating of a steel strip intended to be galvanized.
Galvanizing requires raising the temperature of the steel strip at least to that of the zinc alloy bath in which it passes. This elevation is conventionally provided by an installation of ovens in which the strip passes. The capacity of these ovens is one of the essential parameters influencing the speed of circulation of the belt. Thus the speed of a thick strip will be lower than that of a thin strip. In addition, it should be noted that the penetration of heat into the heart of a thick strip is difficult and that there is always a decreasing temperature gradient from the periphery to the center of the room. Furthermore, it is known that the operation of a heat treatment oven is not always very simple and that the modifications to its operating regime can bring about risks in the quality of the treatment desired.
The invention intends to provide an improvement to this type of installation which makes it possible to facilitate the changes in regime of a heating installation for a continuously moving product and the adaptation of its operation to different thicknesses of product without having to influence on speed. This results in an absence of repercussions on the entire galvanizing line, which removes all the adjustments resulting from a change in speed. The improvement according to the invention is very easily adaptable to an already existing installation.
The heating device according to the invention essentially comprises an induction heating means in addition to at least one other gas or electric heating means which may or may not have a controlled atmosphere. This device allows a simple adjustment of the heating capacity.
The invention will be better understood during the description given below by way of purely indicative and nonlimiting example which will make it possible to identify the advantages and the secondary characteristics thereof.
Reference will be made to the accompanying drawing which very schematically shows the provisions of the invention.
Referring to this figure, there has been symbolized by the roller 1 a coil of metal strip which is unwound in the direction of a
The advantage of an arrangement as described lies in the fact that an induction device is compact.
It can thus be installed on an existing installation before entering the ovens. In addition, the heating obtained is uniform throughout the thickness of the strip. The heating speed is also very fast and its performance is excellent with modern equipment currently on the market.
Finally, the conduct of this heating device is very flexible and gives the entire installation a much greater maneuverability. It is thus that one can easily change the regime for the entire heating installation and that one will be able to keep substantially identical running speeds whatever the thicknesses of the sheets treated since by induction it is easy to heat the thick sheets quickly and to the core.
The invention finds an interesting application in the field of galvanization. It is not limited to the description which has just been given, but on the contrary covers all the variants which could be made to it without departing from its scope or its spirit.
