Abstract

An apparatus for the treatment of scars comprises a stable current generator 2, which can be connected by way of terminal leads 4 to plate-shaped electrodes 6 designed for attachment to the skin 8 on either side of the scar 10, the current generator 2 being designed to apply a pulsating current to the electrodes 6, which starting from 0 amps and with a pulse width of 1.2 msec increases to approximately 30 mA, the interval between the individual current pulses in the pulse sequences being 2- 4 msec. Appropriate current pulses can thereby be generated in and around the scar 10, whilst a direct current can be generated in the subcutaneous tissue, which in addition to the current pulse stimulation is consequently also heated locally by the DC effect. In order to avoid local over-heating of the skin and in order to ensure uniform current-tightness between the skin 8 and the electrodes 6, a dispersion agent is used such as common calcareous water suspended in viscose (cotton wool). <IMAGE>
