Abstract

Bendable catheter for draining bodily fluids comprises a flexible elongated tube with an inner cross-sectional shape and size defining a first conduit for draining urine and having insertion and discharge ends, and a support introduced into the first conduit to support the tube against collapsing during bending of the tube. The support has a flexibility allowing curling. - Independent claims are also included for: - (a) a kit for preparing a catheter for draining a bodily cavity, which comprises at least two catheter sections (1, 2) defining a passage and adapted to be arranged in a first mutual configuration, where the passages are joined into one passage and the sections together constitute a catheter of a length larger than the length of each individual section and having a rigidity that the catheter is manipulatable by manipulation of at least one of the catheter sections, and a second mutual configuration where a kit is shorter than when the sections are arranged in the first mutual configuration; and - (b) a method for producing a catheter, which comprises providing a mold defining the shape of at least one proximal insertion section, forming the proximal insertion section by injection molding, and removing the proximal insertion section from the mold.

Description

Patentkrav 1. The kit of claim 6, wherein the cuff is located around the tubular member. The kit of claim 7, wherein the cuff is located within the tubular member. A kit as claimed in claim 2, wherein at least one structural transition makes it possible to turn the wrap out onto one section so that it can be wrapped around the other section (s). A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least two sections are divided into a pair of separate sections connected to a connecting device. The kit of claim 10, wherein the connector provides a stiffness that allows at least one of the catheter sections to be operated by maneuvering one of the other catheter sections. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections is provided with a hydrophilic surface at least on a portion of its surface for the purpose of obtaining a low friction surface on that portion of the catheter by treating the one with a liquid swelling medium before using the catheter. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections forms a tube with a cross-sectional flow area in the range of 0.5-30 mm2, for example in the range 2-26 mm2, 5-22 mm2, 10-16 mm2 or 12-14 mm2, or with a size of 13 mm2. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections forms a tube with a hydraulic radius in the range of 0.2-1.5 mm, for example in the range of 0.3-1.4 mm, 0, 4-1.3 mm, 0.5-1.2 mm, 0.6-1.1 mm, 0.7-1.0 mm or 0.8-0.9 mm. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections forms a tube of a substantially circular cross-sectional shape. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections forms a tube having a substantially non-circular cross-sectional shape. A catheter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections is provided in a length in the range 50-90 mm, for example in the range 55-85 mm or 60-80 mm, or with a length of 70 mm. The catheter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections is provided in a length in the range of 180-250 mm, for example in the range of 190-240 mm or 200-230 mm, or with a length of 220 mm. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the catheter sections is provided with a grip region which makes it easier to hold the catheter during use thereof. The kit of claim 21, wherein the grip region is substantially radially protruding. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sections are arranged in the second configuration within a package. The kit of claim 23, wherein the package is at least partially formed by at least one of the sections. A kit according to any one of claims 23 or 24, wherein the package contains an amount of liquid swelling medium sufficient to treat the hydrophilic surface portion to obtain a low friction surface on this portion of the catheter. The kit of claim 25, wherein the liquid swelling medium has been contacted with the hydrophilic surface for activating the low friction property of the surface before, during and after the catheter sections are arranged in the package, thereby providing a ready-to-use catheter . A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the sections is coated with a lubricant. A kit according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising a lubricant for coating at least one of the sets of sections. The kit according to any of claims 23-28, wherein the package contains a lubricant. A flexible urinary catheter for drainage of a human bladder, comprising: a flexible elongated tube having an internal cross-sectional shape and size constituting a first passage for urinary drainage, said tube having an insertion end and an outlet end, and - a support member which is introduced into the first passageway and provided with an outer cross-sectional shape and radial size substantially corresponding to the inner cross-sectional shape and size of the elongate tube so that this element can support the tube and prevent it from collapsing when bent, the support member having a flexibility which enables bending. The catheter of claim 30, wherein the support member is hollow and forms a second passage for drainage of the urine through the support member. The catheter of claim 30 or 31, wherein the support member is provided at a length in the range of 20-60 mm, for example in the range of 30-50 mm or 35-45 mm. The catheter of claim 30 or 31, wherein the support member is provided at a length in the range of 60-120 mm, for example in the range 70-110 mm or 80-100 mm. The catheter of claims 30-33, wherein the support member is provided at a length at least half as long as the elongated tube. The catheter of any one of claims 30-34, wherein the support member protrudes from the outlet end of the elongate tube. The catheter of claim 35, wherein the support member is provided with a gripping device to facilitate the withdrawal of the support member from the outlet end during insertion of the catheter. The catheter of any one of claims 30-35, wherein the support member is an integral part of the elongate tube. The catheter of any one of claims 30-37, wherein the support member is a spring. The catheter of any of claims 30-38, wherein the support member is made of a material selected from the group comprising surgical steel, aluminum, a thermoplastic elastomeric material, other thermoplastic materials, curable elastomeric materials, polyamide resins , elastomers and any combination thereof. A support member for use with a flexible catheter according to claims 30-39. A catheter section for insertion into the urethra for bladder drainage, which catheter section is provided with a connector for connecting the catheter section to a handle. 42. Catheter handle section for insertion of a catheter section into the urethra for bladder drainage, which handle section is provided with a connector for connecting the handle section to a catheter section.
