Die Herstellung von Gußeisen mit Kugelgraphit ist in der Praxis noch nicht so betriebssicher aufgebaut, daß es möglich ist, auch sehr unterschiedliche Gußstücke in allen Wanddicken gleichmäßig zur Auskristallisation von Kugelgraphit zu zwingen. Vielfach werden bei der Erstellung von solchen Gußeisensorten neben der Kristallisation von Kugelgraphit immer noch gewisse störende Anteile von Blättchengraphit beobachtet. Vor allem tritt dieser Blättchengraphit bei zu langer Abstehzeit des Eisens nach dem Legieren mit den bekannten Magnesiumzusätzen (z. B. Mg-Ni usw.) bzw. nach dem Impfen mit z. B. Ferrosilizium auf. Dadurch wird die Festigkeit des Gußeisens dieser Art wesentlich beeinflußt.
