The invention relates to a mobile shopping cart with a basket for picking up goods, such as those used in self-service stores by shoppers to transport the goods taken from the shelves to the checkout in a container. Such shopping carts are used in various standardized sizes, with a larger size being the most common in so-called supermarkets, while the next larger versions are mostly used in hardware stores or the like.

Many supermarkets have special packing tables where customers empty the contents of their shopping carts and repack them into bags, baskets or similar items they have brought with them or into carrier bags in order to prepare the goods for taking away or transporting them away.

The invention is based on the idea that this time-consuming repacking on the then redundant packing tables can be eliminated if the goods are immediately placed in a carrying basket when they are removed from the shelves and are also transported away in this basket without further manipulation. The basket becomes part of the shopping cart and can be removed after checkout. This means that the goods only need to be put from the shopping cart onto the conveyor belt or checkout counter and returned once at the checkout. The subsequent repacking is no longer necessary.

The basket, which fits into most shopping carts, can either be purchased by the customer and brought along when shopping, or it can be loaned out by the store against a deposit.

The carrying basket that can be inserted into the goods receiving basket of the shopping trolley will generally be adapted to its internal dimensions or interior, which has a trapezoidal base because the shopping trolleys can be stacked one inside the other; however, a rectangular base is also possible. The same applies to the curved and long sides of the goods receiving basket of the shopping trolley as well as to the shape of the carrying basket, the long and/or narrow sides of which can be either vertical or slightly inclined.

In order to further improve handling, it is also proposed that the individual walls on the narrow and long sides of the carrying basket are only connected to the base surface by hinges, which allow folding by 90° to the top of the base surface or by 270° to the bottom of the base surface; it is intended that the individual walls, when in the erected state, are connected to each other at the abutting corners by means of push-head or hook-in devices.

This design allows the buyer to take the basket with him in the folded up state before going shopping for groceries, possibly in a larger bag, without being greatly hindered or disturbed by the large volume of the structure.

According to further features of the invention, the carrying basket can be made entirely or partially from plastic, and the side walls can be made from a lightweight material such as wire mesh, intersecting rods or sprison.

The shopping cart 1 according to Fig. i consists essentially of the base frame 2 with four rollers 3 arranged on it and the support frame 4 placed on the latter, which carries the bottom frame 5 of the goods receiving basket 9 and by which the bottom 6 of the goods receiving basket 9 is held. Furthermore, the front and long side surfaces 7 and the bow-shaped handle 8 are attached to the bottom frame 5.

As can be seen from Fig. i, the appropriately dimensioned carrying basket 10 can be easily inserted into the goods receiving basket 9 and removed again. For this purpose, two cords 25, 26 are attached to the corners 23 and 24 on both front sides, which can be pulled by hand in the

Carrying handle 27 is guided to sesame &eegr;. This is attached to one of the cords and has a groove into which the other cord is inserted. Instead of this design, the carrying basket 10 can also be provided with a handle 2&THgr; on each of the front sides, as shown in Fig. 2.

A modified solution is shown in Fig. 2, where the carrying basket 10 takes the place of the goods receiving basket 9. Here the shopping cart is equipped with four receiving recesses 29 attached to the corners of the base frame 5, into which the carrying basket 10 is inserted. This saves a lot of technical effort on the shopping cart, so that it can be manufactured at lower cost, and there is also no incentive to steal such a cart for private purposes.

The carrying basket 10 can - as shown in Fig. 1 and 2 - be designed as a basket-like structure with a base and four rigid side walls; it is also possible, as shown in Fig. 3 to 6, to design the carrying basket 10 so that it can be folded up.

As shown in Fig. 3 and 4, the walls 13, 14 of the narrow sides and the walls 17, 18 of the long sides are connected to the base surface 11, which is rectangular in this case, by means of the hinges 21 and can be folded inwards and upwards. In the folded-in position, the walls can be locked in a manner not shown in detail.

A modified design is shown in Fig. 5 and 6. There, the base area 12 is designed trapezoidally and thus the carrying basket has a slightly larger capacity.
