Description
Process for the preparation of water-soluble dyes In the patent 7o4 927 describes a process for the production of dyes. The procedure is characterized in that o-haloarylallyllzetones with cuprocyanide, if appropriate be heated in the presence of pyridine or quinoline.
It has now been found that sulfonation of these products makes them water-soluble Sulphonic acids of valuable properties can be obtained. The available Sulphonic acids show a green shade and combine this property with one surprisingly good substantivity to vegetable fibers and with excellent Fastness properties, especially excellent wash and soap fastness.
The success of the new procedure was not foreseeable. It stood it is to be feared that under the influence of sulfuric acid 0 splitting out of the metal or other oxidative splitting of the molecule would occur.
I Parts of that obtained according to Example i of patent 704,927 The dye contains 15o parts of sulfuric acid with an anhydride content of about 20% Stirring dissolved; the temperature is kept at 10 to 15 °. After i 2 hours the reaction is poured onto ice and the precipitated product is filtered off. Dye sulfonic acid away. It is easily soluble in water, with a dirty olive green color; from the aqueous solution it can be deposited again by salting out. The available Sulphonic acid can be used in the usual way for dyeing cotton in the substantive manner Dyes are used. Example 6o parts of the example I des Patent 7o4927 the dye described are in 2ooo parts of concentrated sulfuric acid Heated to too ° until a sample of the sulphonation melt is poured into plenty of water is clearly soluble. It is poured onto ice and the precipitated dye stifonic acid is filtered off away.
