Description
Manufacture of cryolite and similar double fluorides For manufacture of fluoroaluminium-fluoroalkali double compounds one has a wide variety of aluminum-containing compounds Starting materials used except alumina, clay, bauxite, leucite, phonolite.
It has been found that the melting of aluminum in large Amounts of ashes that z. B. under the names aluminum dross, aluminum ash, Aluminum ball mill dust are suitable inexpensive starting materials are for the production of cryolite and cryolite-like compounds. This aluminum or. compounds containing aluminum oxide dissolve to a large extent in hydrofluoric acid, Hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, and these aluminum salt solutions can then with the calculated for the desired aluminum fluoride-alkali fluoride double compounds Quantities of fluorine and 'alkali ion are added, whereupon the Aluminumfluori.d-Alkalifluorid'-Doppelv Connections fail in great purity. The hydrochloric acid that is released here or sulfuric acid can readily be used to dissolve new quantities of aluminum ash etc. use.
It was known that the aluminum residues can be dissolved in hydrochloric acid can and thereby receives aluminum chloride solutions, which by the others in the Ashes contained in components soluble in hydrochloric acid are heavily contaminated. It was therefore surprising that these impurities, which consist of copper, zinc, Magnesium, manganese, lead and other metal compounds exist when processing these and similar solutions on cryolite and other aluminum fluoride-alkali fluoride double salts do not contaminate the double fluoride formed in a manner known per se, so that it is possible to obtain pure double fluorides in the simplest possible way.
For example, 31o kg of an aluminum ash which contains 3.5 0 @ 0 Cu 0,: 2,3 '/, Zn 0, 6.90 /, Fee 0 3 and 0.15 0/0 Pb 0, with 140o kg 25 of the above Dissolved hydrofluoric acid. The insoluble portion is removed by filtration, the combined filtrate with the wash water contains dissolved Zoo kg A12 03, o, 38 kg CU O, 7.14 kg Zn O, 21,4o kg Fe, 0, o, 2akg Pb0.
The solution used to form the aluminum-sodium double fluoride is now added to this solution Necessary amount of hydrofluoric acid, -121 kg H F and 28oo kg 25.8% brine - added and stirred under cooling.
The aluminum-alkali double fluoride is technically pure all foreign metals.
Beispiel e 2,5 cbm einer salzsauren Aluminiumaschenlösung enthalten go,5o kg A1208, 0,46 kg Cu 0, 5,44 kg Zn. 0, i,51 kg Mg 0, 12,30 kg Fe2O3, 1,78 kg Ca0. Example e 2.5 cbm a hydrochloric acid solution containing aluminum ash go, 5o kg A1208, 0.46 kg Cu 0, 5.44 kg Zn. 0, i, 51 kg Mg 0, 1, 2.30 kg Fe2O3, 1.78 kg Ca0 . This solution is stirred cold with 425 kg of 50% hydrofluoric acid and 125o kg of 25.8% brine. The aluminum-alkali double fluoride is technically pure from all foreign metals.
