Description
Process for the production of cellulose For the production of cellulose from plant fibers such as wood, straw, rags, paper waste, etc., this becomes Raw material processed with digestion solutions, such as sodium or sulphite liquor, which must not have a destructive effect on the cellulose, but which the non-cellulose components partly dissolve, partly decompose. Phenols have also been used for the same purpose and their derivatives .in the free state in the presence of acids or chlorine or used as salts in the presence of alkaline lye.
The present invention relates to an improvement on well known : Soda process of cellulose production, which consists in that for aqueous Caustic soda, with which the cellulose-containing material is processed, except for one very small amount (no more than a few tenths of a percent) phenol also small Quantities of some high molecular weight, organic lZ-onosulfonic acids can be added. Among the phenols, in addition to the usual phenol, cresols and yylenols are also suitable and naphthols. The conditions of their application in the present case differ differs from the previously known ones in that they are used in very, small quantities and unconditionally applies in the presence of alkaline salts of sulfonic acids.
Among the organic sulfonic acids are only suitable for this purpose high molecular weight monosulfonic acids, e.g. B. Naphthastilfonsäure, which one by sulfurizing the naphtha distillate or the lignite tar wins, or so-called aromatic Sulphofatty acids, which by the action of sulfuric acid on a mixture of unsaturated Fatty acids with aromatic hydrocarbons, or finally the Octohydroanthracene sulfonic acid formed by sulfurizing the hydrogenated anthracene.
The presence in the alkaline solution of these acids or their Alkali salts greatly reduce the surface tension of the solution, increasing its wetting and dissolving properties and promotes soaking of the fibrous, porous: eri Raw material with alkaline solution. Thus, such acts in the presence of the salts Sulphonic acids the solution faster and more regularly on. The non-cellulose components of the starting material, and you get a purer and more perfect cellulose, than when the alkaline solution is used without the addition of these substances.
It has also been found that the addition of sulfonic acids and phenols to the alkaline solution when processing z. B. of wood or straw not only achieves a more complete separation of the non-cellulosic constituents, but also accelerates gas bleaching with chlorine or chlorinated lime at the same time; fewer reagents are expended and the color of the cellulose to be obtained improves. Both the phenols and the sulfonic acids are added to the alkaline solution in small amounts - so that they only neutralize a very small part of the lye in the solution.
Example The following are stored in a rotating kettle: 16o parts by weight of straw, 26o parts by weight of sodium hydroxide solution in 12 ° Bd, 0.2.5 parts by weight of naphthasulfonic acids, which are obtained from naphtha distillates, spec. 0.86 by weight, 0.25 part by weight of crude cresol containing not less than 10,000 cresols. The mixture is under pressure of 4.5 atm. in the course of q. Hours heated and still processed in the same way as with the baking soda method.
