Abstract

The intensity of vehicle density is determined by a monitoring process. Typically samples are taken every two second, and the number of vehicles passing within the period is determined. The samples can be analysed over a longer period and a traffic distribution pattern established, which can be reproduced at specific time intervals, e.g. every 15 minutes. At particular sections with general conditions of traffic, such as stop periods, speed etc can be determined.
