Abstract

Superstructures of stumps of teeth that have been pretreated endodontically and whose crowns are fractured, weakened or destroyed by caries, can be restored with the aid of a prefabricated pin which is inserted in a recess in the stump and whose section projecting beyond the stump serves as a carrier for a dental crown or the like. Fastening of the prefabricated pin is effected in the stump with the aid of a cement, plastic or the like, or/and with the aid of a screw thread. The conventional root pins require a bore that has been provided with high accuracy in the stump in order to ensure optimum hold of the root pin coupled with an extremely low stress on the root canal. This involves the danger of the canal wall of the stump being broken through in the case of narrow or very conical roots. Moreover, it is diffult to find sufficient hold for the root pin in root stumps having very wide or asymmetric root canals. The root pin according to the invention is to be easily handled in a time-saving manner and at the same time insertable without any major pretreatment of the root canal. The root pin carries flexible lamellae extending in the radial direction and arranged in planes standing at a distance from one another in the longitudinal direction of the pin.
