Es ist bekannt, bei größeren Abmessungen und Kolbengeschwindigkeiten die Kühlung durch zwangläufig zirkulierendes Öl zu bewirken. Diese Anordnung hat den Nachteil, daß das Öl bei Stillstand des Motors nicht mehr zirkuliert und infolgedessen Abscheidungen auf den Kolbenboden verursacht; die die Wärmeübertragung erschweren und besondere Einrichtungen erforderlich machen, die auch nach dem Abstellen des Motors ein Weiterzirkulieren des Öles ermöglichen sollen. Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung wird wieder auf die Kühlung mit Luft zurückgekehrt, wie sie bei kleineren Motoren üblich ist. Da aber die Kühlwirkung der Luft bedeutend geringer ist als die des Öles, genügt die Oberßäche des Kolbens nicht als Kühlfläche. Eine genügend große Kühlfläche kann nur durch Anbringung von Rippen erreicht werden. Nun ist aber die Wärmeleitfähigkeit von Eisen oder ähnlichen Materialien, aus denen der Kolbenboden bisher hergestellt wurde, so gering, daß von einer bestimmten Länge der Rippen ab eine weitere Vergrößerung derselben keine Vergrößerung der Wärmeleitung zur Folge hat. Demgemäß besteht die Erfindung darin, daß in den Kolben ein mit Kühlrippen versehener Boden aus Aluminium eingesetzt ist.Pistons for high-speed heat engines.
