Ein organisatorisches Problem vieler Sportveranstaltungen liegt in der Versorgung der Besucher und Zuschauer mit Getränken, die oftmals in Flaschen, bisweilen jedoch auch in Gläsern und Pappbechern ausgegeben werden. Da ein so versorgter Zuschauer sein Getränk selten in einem Zug austrinken wird, jedoch das Trinkgefäß auch nicht ständig in der Hand behalten möchte, bleibt ihm keine andere Möglichkeit, als das Trinkgefäß auf dem Boden abzustellen. Daraus ergeben sich mehrere Probleme: Zum einen ist ein auf dem Boden stehendes Trinkgefäß stark gefährdet, umgeworfen zu werden, da gewöhnlich mehrere Personen auf engem Raum gedrängt stehen. Damit geht nicht nur das Getränk verloren, sondern es besteht weiterhin die Gefahr von Verletzungen durch beschädigte Trinkgefaße. Darüber hinaus kommt es bei ähnlich aussehenden Trinkgefässen mehrerer Personen zwangsläufig zu unerwünschten Verwechslungen. Für den Veranstalter stellt sich darüber hinaus noch ein optisches Problem, da wahllos herumstehende Trinkgefäße sehr schnell ein unansehnliches Bild abgeben und einen insgesamt ungepflegten Eindruck der Anlage entstehen lassen. Vorzugsweise ist diese so ausgestaltet, dass sich über die gesamte Schienenlänge eine im wesentlichen geschlossene Abdeckung des U-Querschnitts erstreckt, wobei diese Abdeckung mit Aussparungen versehen ist, durch die hindurch die Trinkgefäße in der Schiene abgestellt werden können. Größe und Form der Aussparungen sowie der Abstand können beliebig an die Form der bevorzugt verwendeten Trinkgefäße angepaßt sein.
