Selbst-Ankernder Wundspreizer für dieSelf-anchoring wound retractor for Human- und VeterinärmedizinHuman and veterinary medicine
The invention relates to a wound spreader which is required in numerous medical operations to keep tissue and veins away from the surgical area, consisting of two spring bands which are connected at both ends and are spread open with two arms in the area of the front and rear ends. The innovation is provided with anchor hooks on the outside, the purpose of which is to ensure that the wound spreader anchors itself in the wound edges after being inserted into the wound channel and spread open, thus stabilizing the surgical field. In contrast to existing wound spreaders which pull the wound apart and thus exert an uneven distribution of force on the wound opening, which leads to an asymmetrical wound geometry, the innovation pushes the wound apart evenly. The result is a symmetrical wound opening following the line of the incision.

Surgical instruments in the form of retractors of the type mentioned above are well known. They consist of a frame to which rubber bands with hooks are anchored. The hooks are inserted into the wound to be spread. One of the disadvantages of this type is that the frame shifts during the operation, which can cause the wound to close again. Another form of wound spreader is the use of a rigid frame in connection with two spreading arms, which are arranged on a sliding rail at the rear ends. After the spreading arms have been placed in the wound, the position of the spreading arms on the frame is moved until the wound is spread. A disadvantage of this type is that the spreader has to be adjusted as the operation progresses.
The present innovation does not have these disadvantages, as it is an integral part of the surgical field, pushes the wound apart and adapts to the wound opening through the elastic spreading bands.
