Die Schneckenpaare können in einer waagerechten Ebene angeordnet sein, sie können aber auch in Ebenen liegen, die zueinander einen nach oben geöffneten Winkel bilden. Hierdurch wird erreicht, daß die Masse von den Schneckenpaaren über die Heizwände des Gehäuses gleichmäßig in dünner Schicht verstrichen, dann in den Raum zwischen die beiden Schneckenpaare zu einer Wulst, die frei im Ausdampfungsschacht liegt, eingezogen und wieder nach entgegengesetzten Seiten über die Heizwände des Gehäuses verstrichen wird. Die Masse wird auf beiden Seiten des Gehäuses von jedem der Walzenpaare 2 und 2 a bzw. 3 und 3 α während des axialen Transportes schräg nach unten zur Mitte zwischen die Schneckenpaare gefördert, wo sich eine Wulst 8 bildet. Diese Materialwulst wird zwischen den innersten Schneckenwellen 2 a und 3 α nach und nach eingezogen und nimmt in Förderrichtung der Schnecken entsprechend der fortschreitenden Eindickung des Materials allmählich ab.
