Disteln (Cynara cardunkulus) oder Artischocken (Cynara scolymus), diese Säure enthalten, mit einem Überschuß von wäßrigen Lösungen der 131ei- oder Bariumverbindungen in der Kälte oder Wärme versetzt, und die 1,4-Dikaffeeylchinasäure wird durch Versetzen des entstandenen Niederschlages mit sauren Agentien von den Verunreinigungen selektiv abgetrennt.
