Description

Process for the total or local elimination of matting developed photographic materials used as matting agents are sulfates, phosphates, carbonates or oxalates of alkaline earth metals, magnesium or heavy metals are included photographic materials known which are provided with a matt layer, the for example to achieve a special image effect or to apply retouching serves. For these matt layers, various are insoluble in photographic baths organic or inorganic compounds known. Have been particularly beneficial proven insoluble alkaline earth or heavy metal salts. When performing the Retouching, these matt layers are not only used to take up the retouching agents, but it is often also desirable to use the matting agent for a lightening To eliminate more or less retouching. It can also be used for special cases, for example for copying together pictures on matt photographic material and on clear material it may be necessary to completely remove the matting remove. For this purpose, when using insoluble compounds, the Alkaline earth metals are relatively strong acids used in the photographic The layer has an unfavorable effect. The Z. B. often used for matting barium sulfate could not be removed even by strong acid solutions.

It has now been found that, after developing from sulfates, phosphates, carbonates, oxalates of alkaline earth metals, magnesium, heavy metals such as lead, zinc, cadmium, solutions of amino acids which contain more than one in a position can be used to remove matting agents located carboxyl group, based on a basic nitrogen atom, contain, or their salts can be used. Suitable nitrogen-containing polycarboxylic acids are, for example, trimethylamine-a-a-a '-tricarboxylic acid, ethylene-bis (iminodiacetic acid) and diethylenetriaminediacetic acid. Other suitable polycarboxylic acids are mentioned in German Patent 718981.

The polycarboxylic acids mentioned are expediently in solutions with concentrations used from 111 / upwards. The duration of exposure depends on the concentration the solution. If necessary, the removal of the matting can be done with other measures be combined by adding the polycarboxylic acids to other treatment baths he follows.

Furthermore, the new method can be advantageous for brightening retouching can be used by treating individual image areas with solutions of nitrogen-containing polycarboxylic acids, the matting agent in whole or in part is eliminated.

Example: A photographic material that has a matt layer with contains an addition of barium sulfate, is with a solution of 10 g of tetramethyldiaminoethane tetracarboxylic acid treated in 100 cc of water. The use of additives containing nitrogen Polycarboxylic acids or their salts for photographic treatment baths, in particular Developer solutions are already known, but these additives were used to prevent them of calcium deposits in photographic layers. However, it is not yet has been known developed photographic materials comprising the above Contain matting agents, treat with baths that contain such additives. With this new process, the advanced effect is now connected, matting to eliminate the specified composition in the desired manner.
