Description
本发明是关于一种适用于喷墨记录的记录版。
喷墨记录方法已作为一种高速电子印刷的最重要技术而出现,随着这种技术的出现,就需要具有一定记录性能的记录纸。
喷墨记录的基本成象技术包括使用一个或多个与墨源相连接的喷墨组合件,每一喷墨组合件含有一个小喷嘴,它是根据需要由磁性调制压电,热或其它类似方式为电磁能而喷出均匀连续的墨流或单独的墨滴,墨滴直接滴在移动的卷筒纸表面上,控制墨滴以形成印刷特性。
喷墨记录方法所得到的记录质量在很大程度上取决于喷墨操作、墨和记录纸的性质。所用的墨必须是能在压力下形成稳定的墨滴而且很容易在喷墨的喷嘴处喷出。已经发现,在含水溶性染料的墨水溶液以及用来防止墨汁在喷墨组合件中干涸的润湿剂是特别重要的。然而,在记录版吸收墨方面还存在一些问题,尤其在多色印刷领域,因两滴或多滴墨可能在记录版表面上重迭。
为获得好的图象质量,记录版必须迅速地吸收墨,同时又不溶解记录版表面的墨染料。前一性质减少了粘脏(即把墨从纸带到版输送辊或类似部件上去)的倾向,而后一性质确保了获得高光密度的图象。遗憾的是这两种性质彼此互相矛盾;有高度吸收能力的纸把墨深深地吸入纸中,结果在纸面上形成的图象的光密度减少了。它们也使图象发生釉上硫花、边缘不清晰和透过纸背等现象。吸收能力差的纸,如高涂胶纸,由于墨保留在纸面上而使其光密度好,但因墨展色料(vehicle)并没有被迅速吸收掉,因此粘脏的可能性就大。
已有记述,有幻膜(magic film)的吸墨纸是理想的喷墨记录版。吸墨纸迅速地吸收油墨展色料而幻膜确保色料保留在光的吸收和反射性质最佳的纸版表面,如果色料深深地渗入到纸质中,则纸的吸收强度减小。纸质纤维使油墨横向渗开,结果图象的轮廓就不分明了,而且透过纸背的现象也发生了。请参阅P.A.麦克马纳(Mcmanus)等,“喷墨彩色图象对纸的要求”(Paper Requirements for Color Imaging with Ink Jets TAPPI第66卷第7期81~85页(1983.7)。
曾提出过几种用于喷墨记录的纸。在某些情况下,调节纸的基量,表观密度和填料含量即能获得改良的吸附性质,(见授予Jujo造纸股份有限公司的日本公开74340/1977)。在另外一些情况下,在压胶机上把某些阳离子型上胶剂,如阳离子石油树脂加到纸上以达到更合乎需要的吸墨特性(见授予三菱造纸股份有限公司的日本公开109,783/1981)。还有一种情况是在记录版表面提供含有某些染料媒染剂的染料吸收层。
已经知道,当需要高质量的副本时,应使用表面带有吸墨层的纸。这种吸墨层是由白色颜料和水质粘合剂构成。颜料使得副本非常白,并能反射入射光,从而提高了图象的质量,同时颜料也用来做为粘合喷墨记录用量的基质。水质粘合剂用以增强对墨展色料的吸附能力。
Crooks等在1978年11月的IBM技术公报第21卷第6期上透露了一种记录纸,它涂有一层水溶性聚合物如:淀粉,明胶,聚乙烯基吡咯烷酮和聚乙烯醇。
Makawa等的美国专利4,446,174记述了一种带有吸墨层的记录纸,这种吸墨层包含了一种吸收染料的颜料,(如沸石,粘土,一种美国活性白土和硅藻土)和一种粘合剂。在专利中透露的一些粘合剂包括:带有可离解的染料吸收基团(如聚丙烯酸脂类,苯乙烯-马来酸酐共聚物,藻酸钠,乙烯-马来酸酐共聚物和阳离子型淀粉)的粘合剂和不带可离解基团(如淀粉,聚乙烯醇,聚乙烯基吡咯烷酮和丁苯胶乳)的粘合剂。
Musakami等在美国专利4,425,405中透露了一种喷墨记录版,这种记录版上的吸墨层含有聚乙烯基吡咯烷酮和/或聚乙烯基吡咯烷酮与醋酸乙烯酯的共聚物和一种白色填料。吸墨层也可任选一种不溶于水的粘合剂以赋予抗湿性。
也已知道,某些喷墨记录纸,它本身的染料吸收特性可通过在纸中掺入某些共聚物或上胶剂来改进,Mackawa等的美国专利4,308,542和Mcnagania的美国专利4,269,891描述了一种由合成纸制得的喷墨记录纸,这种纸可设计成通过透过记录纸的光的反射或光的透射来观察图象。某些水溶性粘合剂具有高亲水特性,将它们(其中包含聚环氧乙烷)加到纸浆中能改善表面强度和吸墨特性。
还可以例举出属于这类技术的多种喷墨记录纸,然而还需要其它类型的纸,特别需要适用于高质量印刷的涂层纸。
本发明的目的之一是提供一种适用于高质量印刷的喷墨记录纸。
本发明的另一目的是提供一种带有吸墨层的喷墨记录纸,该吸墨层含有一种白色颜料和一种具有优良吸墨性并控制墨点扩散的粘合剂(即上胶和均匀性)。
本发明还有一个目的是提供一种带有吸墨层的喷墨记录纸,该吸墨层含有颜料和能在高湿度下具有低粘性并可提供耐水性的粘合剂。
本发明的另一目的在于提供一种上色的喷墨记录层,它适用于水基和溶剂基墨水。
按照本发明所制得的喷墨记录纸,可实现上述目的和其它目的。该喷墨记录纸含有底纸和至少在所述底纸的一面上有吸墨涂层。所述的吸墨涂层包括分散在聚环氧乙烷中的白色颜料。
本发明纸的吸墨质量将随着掺入到吸墨层中的聚环氧乙烷的量和分子量,以及其它因素如颜料的本性,其它添加剂的存在和涂层的种类而变化。用于本发明的吸墨层,最简单的是由一种白颜料和聚环氧乙烷组成。然而聚环氧乙烷不能提供足够的粘合强度以满足记录过程的全部需要。含聚环氧乙烷和颜料的吸墨层有起粉倾向,那很快失去颜料而且时而破裂。由于这个原因,在组合物中添加一种树脂为宜,以增强粘合强度,从而降低破裂起粉的可能性并改进了吸墨层。
本发明使用的聚环氧乙烷的分子量大约在100,000到900,000之间,最好的是在100,000到300,000之间。
用于增强聚环氧乙烷的粘合强度的适宜树脂可以从常用于纸和涂层纸中的许多高分子材料中选取。粘合剂应选自可与聚环氧乙烷相容的粘合剂。可用的聚合物代表性实例包括:聚醋酸乙烯酯,乙烯-醋酸乙烯酯共聚物,聚甲基丙烯酸酯,聚丙烯酸酯,聚乙烯醇,氧化淀粉,羟甲基纤维素,羟乙基纤维素,苯乙烯-马来酸共聚物,苯乙烯-丁二烯共聚物,及其类似物。通常用聚乙烯醇和淀粉,因为它们比较便宜并能提供良好的粘合强度。
通常在吸墨层中使用的聚环氧乙烷,按照干吸墨层重计其重墨百分比约为5%至70%。最好是10%至40%。在吸墨层中用以增强粘合强度的其它树脂用量将随树脂的性质,所用填料的量和性质以及其它因素而改变。一般这些树脂可掺合到涂层中,其量按干重计约为0至60%,或者按其与聚环氧乙烷的重量比约为1∶10至10∶1。
本发明中能与环氧乙烷结合使用的填料的实例包括:粘土,滑石,碳酸钙,矾土和氧化铝水合物,沸石,合成二氧化硅,硫酸钙,硅藻土,硅酸镁,碳酸钡、硫酸钡,硅酸铝,氧化镁,碳酸镁,硅酸钙,锻光白等等。较好的填料是合成二氧化硅。(例如:W.R.Grace公司的Syloid 244)在某些情况下可能需要另一种白色填料冲淡氧化硅。按记录层干物重计填料的通常用量约为5%至90%,最可取的用量约为40%至90%。
本发明中喷墨记录纸的记录特性通常可以通过添加一种阳离子树脂和/或多价金属盐加以改进。在大多数应用中,含有酸性或直接染料的水质墨水混合物可在喷墨记录中使用,这些染料可很好地与树脂或金属盐所提供的阳离子反应,并能在吸墨层中较块地固定。这种倾向可防止粘脏并可进一步降低釉上硫花和墨滴扩散。
适宜的阳离子型聚合物以高阳离子特性为特性。这类聚合物一般由摩尔百分数至少为3%的阳离子单体单元组成,而以摩尔百分数至少为10%至100%为佳。可以使用聚胺,例如季胺的聚合物或在酸性条件下转变成季胺的胺的聚合物,由于在聚合物中氮一般是以阳离子季胺基形式存在,故这些聚合物的阳离子特性可用氮浓度来表示。这样,本发明所用的聚合物阳离子胺类,其特征是氮含量超过约0.1%,以大于1.5%为好,以大于3.0%为最佳。
一类可用的阳离子聚合物是所谓的导电聚合物,它们常用于电子摄影,电子刻板或静电摄影过程,这类聚合物的例子在美国专利3011918,3544318,4148639,4171417,4316934和3813264中已有记述。这些聚合物是以存在高百分含量的阳离子基团为特征的,诸如叔胺和季胺阳离子基团,有代表性的聚合物是阳离子单体的均聚物或共聚物,如氯化二烯丙基二烷基铵(如氯化二烯丙基二甲基铵),氯化N-烷基铵,氯化甲基丙烯酰胺基丙基三甲基铵,氯化甲基丙烯酰氧乙基三甲基铵,氯化2-羟基-3-甲基丙烯酰氧丙基三甲基铵,甲基丙烯酰氧乙基三甲基甲磺酸铵,氯化乙烯基苄基三甲基1铵和4-乙烯基吡啶季铵盐。
用于本发明的可在市场上买到的阳离子聚合物的代表性例子有:Warcofix 808(太阳化学公司的胍-甲醛树脂),Calgon 261 Lv和Calgon导电聚合物7091RV(Calgon公司提供的聚二甲基二烯丙基氯化铵),Nalco 8674(Nalco公司提供的阳离子聚胺)和CAT FLOCC(由Calgon公司提供)。
用于本发明的多价金属盐是元素周期表中Ⅱ、Ⅲ族或过渡金属中的多价阳离子的多价水溶性盐。这些盐于23℃在100ml水中的溶解量一般大于5克;最容易得到且价格最合适的是Zn2+,Al3+,Mg2+,Ca2+和Ba2+的盐。那些能使纸变色的盐(如Fe2+,Fe3+和Cu2+的盐)只能限量使用或完全不用。最好使用上述多价阳离子的盐以及弱酸的阴离子的盐,例如PKa值大于2.0,最好大于3.0酸的阴离子的盐。强酸阴离子盐如明矾,可使喷墨染料不溶,但一般不用它,因它使纸具有高的酸度,从而加速了纸的降解。因此,尽管氯化物,硫酸盐,氯酸盐和硝酸盐是有用的,但最好的盐是乙酸盐,甲酸盐,水合氯化物,丙二酸盐,丁二酸盐和其它弱有机酸的盐。
用于本发明的盐的具体例子是明矾,甲酸钙和水合氯化铝,某些锆的Zr3+,Zr4+,Zr5+盐,如氯氧化锆,羟基氯化锆相信也是有用的。
本发明的吸墨层约含有重量百分数为5%至50%的前面提及的阳离子树脂和/或约含重量百分数为1%至25%的多价金属盐。
吸墨层的典型制法是,按常规方法先制得含聚环氧乙烷,填料和其它添加剂的水分散液,然后将其涂到基体上。常规的纸涂布机例如,刀片涂布机,空气刮刀涂布机,滚筒涂布机,刷式涂布机,槽式涂布机,上胶机,杆式涂布机和隔板式涂布机可使用。涂层组合物可加到基体上,其用量约1-40克/米2(按干重计算),较好的是5-20克/米2。厚度的上限不是极限。涂层干燥后如果需要可压光使其光滑。
一般来说,依照本发明对载有吸墨层的纸的类型没有限制。对纸基体的限制一般是要使纸适合于记录或记录仪器,而不是使其适合于涂层组分。对于大多数用途来说,可用的纸张其基重约为每1300平方英尺重12-30磅,表观密度在0.3-1.2之间,填料含量在0至40%范围内。一般说来,常用的漂白牛皮纸和漂白硫酸盐纸浆可在本发明中使用。手工水纸,低上胶纸,高上胶纸和证卷纸均可用。涂层也可用于某些合成纸或者涂到聚合物薄膜上。
基体厚度约以30到150微米为宜。
用于本发明的热塑性薄膜的代表性例子有:聚脂薄膜诸如聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯,聚苯乙烯,聚氯乙烯,聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯和醋酸纤维素。
本发明的喷墨记录纸连同水质喷墨记录墨水一起使用为宜,但它也可与某些溶剂基墨水一同使用。适宜的染料中有代表性的例子有:酸性染料,诸如酒磺(C I19140),喹啉黄,(C I47005),曙红(C I45380),新品酸性红(C I45430),亮花青6B(C I42660),酸性黑1(C I20470),酸性黑36(C I27275)和酸性蓝黑10B(C I20470),酸性蓝193(C I15707),酸性蓝194(C I17941),酸性盐249直接黑74,直接黑103,直接黑GW,Capamine黑ESA,深色XA(C I直接黑154),黑G(C I35255),酞花青蓝(C I74180),直接蓝78,直接蓝239,直接蓝120,直接蓝110,直接蓝19,直接深红4BS(C I29160)。上述C I编号表示在第3版“颜料索引”(1971年)中的标号。由约克郡,Bradford地区的染色和着色工作者协会编写。

实例2:
由实例1制备三种喷墨记录纸,但聚环氧乙烷的分子量不同。样品A用分子量为100,000的聚环氧乙烷制备。样品B用分子量为200,000的聚环氧乙烷制备,样品C用分子量为300,000的聚环氧乙烷制备。用高纸着色工艺ACT-1印刷机将以溶剂为基础的品红记录墨水印到每种记录级吸墨层上,测量点面积,参数和形状,结果见表Ⅰ。为便于比较,用加到商业证卷纸上的同种墨水来表示点的大小。

实例3:
喷墨记录纸是将以下表Ⅱ所示的组合物用辊式涂布机涂敷到商品纸上而制得。
样品1-3相当于按美国专利4,425,405的技术制备的样品,在吸墨层中含有聚乙烯基吡咯烷酮,样品在4-b是按照本发明制备的纸。

Claims (17)
1、一种含有基体和至少在其一面有吸墨涂层的喷墨记录纸,所述的涂层包括一种白色颜料和聚环氧乙烷。
2、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中除了所述的聚环氧乙烷外,所述的涂层还包括一种能与聚环氧乙烷相容并能增强粘合强度的树脂。
3、权利要求2的喷墨记录纸,其中所述的树脂选自下面一组化合物:聚醋酸乙烯酯,乙烯-醋酸乙烯酯共聚物,聚甲基丙烯酸酯,聚丙烯酸酯,聚乙烯醇,氧化淀粉,羟甲基纤维素,羟乙基纤维素,苯乙烯-丁二烯共聚物和苯乙烯-马来酸共聚物。
4、权利要求3的喷墨记录纸,其中所述的白色填料选自下面一组物质:粘土,滑石,碳酸钙,硫酸钙,硅藻土,硅酸镁,碳酸钡,硅酸铝,氧化镁,碳酸镁,硅酸钙,锻光白,合成二氧化硅和氧化铝。
5、权利要求4的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的填料在涂层中的含量约为5%~90%(重量)。
6、权利要求5的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的树脂与聚环氧乙烷的重量比约为1∶10至10∶1。
7、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的聚环氧乙烷约具有100,000至300,000的分子量。
8、权利要求7的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的白色填料是合成二氧化硅。
9、权利要求2的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的树脂是聚乙烯醇。
10、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的基体选自手工水纸,低上胶纸,高上胶纸和证卷纸。
11、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的基体是纸。
12、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的吸墨涂层被压光。
13、权利要求1的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的吸墨涂层含有聚环氧乙烷,聚乙烯醇和合成二氧化硅。
14、权利要求2的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的吸墨涂层还包括一种阳离子树脂。
15、权利要求2的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的吸墨涂层还包括多价金属盐。
16、权利要求14的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的阳离子树脂是聚合的胺。
17、权利要求15的喷墨记录纸,其中所说的盐是Zn2+,Al3+,Mg2+,Ca2+或Ba2+的盐。
