具体实施方式
本发明的方面涉及广域网的无缝融合，该融合从任何形式的有线和/或无线广域网到小的可位于家庭或其他类似办公室、商务场所的无线和/或有线局域网和个人局域网。特别地，本发明的方面适合于将连接到替换网络的时机通告给移动无线设备的用户，该替换网络可以是诸如个人微蜂窝，个人局域网(PAN)，有线或无线广域网(WAN)，无线局域网(WLAN)或者位于室内(如家庭、办公室、商务场所及类似场所)的其他网络类型。这些不同类型的网络的融合可使得所有类型的媒体能在接入设备之间透明通讯，此接入设备可通过有线或无线方式连接到一个或多个该网络中。在本发明的一个典型实施例中，可在其从一个类型的网络转移到另一个类型的网络时提供无缝通讯。

宽带接入提供商106可为诸如电缆操控者，电话公司，或提供因特网接入和其他通讯服务的卫星操控者。若BAP106为电话公司，到位置102和104的宽带服务可以通过DSL或者其他宽带接入技术提供。相应的，调制解调器116、132可以是DSL调制解调器。若BAP106为电缆操控者，到位置102和104的宽带服务可通过电缆提供。相应的，调制解调器116、132可为兼容DOCSIS的或其他类型的电缆调制解调器。由于在过去的十年或者更长时间里租赁电话线的费用迅速降低，到位置102、104的连接也可是T1或T3的连接。例如，位于中心局(CO)的交换器(未标出)可被用来在第二位置104和PSTN108之间连接一个T1或T3的连接。
网关118可包括集成的DSL调制解调器、电缆调制解调器或者其他用来处理如T1和T3连接的高速调制解调器。另一个选择是，网关118可与外部DSL调制解调器、电缆调制解调器或其他可处理如T1或T3连接的高速调制解调器连接。网关118可被调整以使得它能访问可能会与GSM网络114和/或CDMA网络112相关的协议栈信息。网关118也可被调整以为与“其他蜂窝/PCS服务提供商”模块146的通讯提供协议支持。
每个CDMA和GSM网络112、114可包括多个在每个网络里的位于地理蜂窝点的蜂窝站点(a/k/a蜂窝通信塔)。在GSM网络114里，如蜂窝站点114a的每个蜂窝站点可包括无线收发基站(BTS)，并且一个或者多个无线收发基站(BTS)也可被连接到无线载波中心局114b。无线载波中心局114b可包括诸如BSC/RNC 114d的基站控制器/无线网络控制器(BSC/RNC)。一个或者多个基站控制器/无线网络控制器(BSC/RNC)可与核心网络114e连接，该核心网络包括被称为移动开关中心(MSC)的网络边界(例如MSC114g)，以及GSM网络114的服务GPRS支持节点(SGSN)/包数据服务节点(PDSN)114f。移动交换中心可通过传输网110与诸如PSTN 108进行连接。当接入设备移出第一个蜂窝站点的范围进入另一个蜂窝站点的范围时，从第一个蜂窝站点的收到的信号功率的下降和从第二个蜂窝站点收到的信号功率的增加使得通话从第一个蜂窝站点切换到第二个蜂窝站点。在没有第二个蜂窝站点可以切换的情况时，通话可以维持在第一个蜂窝站点里直到它减弱到无法继续维持通话的临界点。在功率达到或者下降到低于这个临界点的时候，电话可能会终止并且任何相关的通话资源可能被放弃。在家庭或者办公室的环境中，其最好具有通话能够切换至的另一个网络。
如所示的，用户可能在回家的路上并当其到家时，信号可能降低到能维持一个通话的最小信号功率临界点之下。然而，通话可以被切换到诸如PAN或者位于用户家里的无线局域网(WLAN)或者位于用户家里的未授权无线接入系统，而不是断开通话。例如，如图1所示，当接入设备126从GSM网络114的服务蜂窝站点114a的区域移出到第一个位置102处的无线接口120时，通话可以从GSM网络114中的蜂窝站点114a切换到与第一个位置102处的网关(GW)118连接的无线接口120。相应的，通话可以被无缝的切换并且通过无线接口120由网关118处理，而不是被断开。然后产生的无线数据可通过到BAP 106的宽带连接与GSM网络114通讯，该BAP 106与宽带无线局域网控制器(BWC)114c连接。
在此图中，用户切换到他们的PAN、WLAN、或者位于其家里的其他网络。而用户也可被切换至其他网络系统(例如邻居的网络)。不论是哪种情形，连接到为用户提供服务的无线接口的网关可至少传输一部分数据到电缆或者DSL BAP 106、GSM网络114、CDMA网络112、其他宽带接入服务提供商144、其他移动/PCS服务提供商146和中心控制和管理块148。可为用户提供表明PAN、WLAN、或者其他非授权网络的存在的通告。例如，一旦获得从GSM网络114里的服务蜂窝站点到位于第一个位置102的无线接口120的一个软的或硬的切换，可在接入设备126的屏幕上显示个人局域网的图标表示。或者可使用一个特殊的音调或者其他音频警告来表示通话已经被切换到无线接口120。
当网关118检测到一个可能在无线接口120的范围内的兼容的接入设备，网关118可立即将其对于接入设备可用的服务广播出去。此时，网关118可调整以传输服务广播到接入设备，从而提醒接入设备的用户由网关118提供的各种类型的服务。包括服务的图标表示的信号可被传输和显示至接入设备屏幕和/或可以使用音频提示来通知这些服务的用户。
在本发明的另一个实施例里，服务质量(QoS)也可被网关118所广播。例如，当无线接口120为用户提供服务时，网关118可广播表示立体声音频有效。
接入设备可预注册以便当其在无线接口120的范围内时，网关118可自动识别。为实现该预注册，位于第一个位置102的网关118的管理员可注册允许访问网关的接入设备以当其在无线接口120的范围内时可访问接入网关118。预注册可以在接入设备访问网关118之前进行。在预注册期间，网关118的管理员或者所有者可以将注册或者配置信息(例如属于朋友和/或家庭成员的接入设备的设备ID)输入到与网关118相连的注册数据库中。从而，这些设备无论何时通过按一个简单的按钮来访问接入网关118，都会被允许访问至少部分的由网关118所提供的服务。随机注册允许接入设备的用户无需任何努力或是很小的努力就可自动注册到网关118。此时，注册信息可在初始化接入时从接入设备发送到网关118，并且网关118可选择接受或拒绝该注册。注册信息可自动或手动发送到网关118。
在某些情况下，接入设备也许不会预注册来访问网络。此时，可提供一个按钮接入。可以将诸如接入设备的硬编码或软件使能的简单按钮编程以将验证信息从接入设备发送到网关118。网关118可使用这个发送来的验证信息来允许或否认对自己服务的访问。例如，按钮可被编程以包含与接入第一个位置102的网关118提供的服务相关的接入设备验证信息。网关118也可调整以使用数字证书来认证接入服务。
还可提供一个交互的处理，借此网关118可提示或请求特殊的信息，例如来自需要网络接入的接入设备的密码。若接受到特殊信息，则至少部分由网关118提供的服务的接入可被允许，否则至少部分网关服务信息的接入可被否认。
在本发明的另一实施例中，按钮接入可通过软件使能按钮或者硬件使能按钮来提供。此时，软件按钮可在接入设备的屏幕上显示。
可使用“围墙花园”方式来提供到由诸如网关118的特定网关提供的服务的接入。在“围墙花园”方式下，当接入设备首次注册或被认证时，可以通过服务网关118为接入设备124提供一套基本的服务。提供的基本服务可因各个网关而不同。诸如网关“8的网关提供的至少部分基本服务，可不需要认证接入设备124就可提供。然而，其他服务仅当接入设备(接入设备124)被适当认证后，才可被提供。这些提供的服务可以为网关118广播的服务。
在本发明的一个方面，可基于例如用户身份、接入设备身份和/或用户输入来允许对额外服务的访问。由网关提供给接入设备的服务可被设置为诸如层的等级结构。例如，在首层中，可提示用户输入成员信息，如成员验证号。一旦成员验证号通过验证，首层可使用不可被禁用的弹出式广播来提供严格的接入。例如第二层中，用户可被提示输入密码。一旦密码通过验证，第二层信息可提供无弹出式广播的到网关服务的严格的接入。例如，在第三层中，输入如账号或信用卡或支票号的帐务信息可提供非受限和/或无限制的由网关提供的所有服务的访问。第四层可仅仅向用户提供操作指令和信息。
网关的管理员可建立由围墙花园所提供的访问类型。例如，若第一个位置102是一个咖啡馆的热点，网关提供商可建立服务访问等级或网关118提供的层。
当接入设备在网关118的范围内，无线服务从GSM网络114里的服务蜂窝基站114a切换至网关118。接入设备可由网关118认证并被允许访问由网关118提供的至少部分服务。一旦接入设备被认证，接入设备中的至少部分信息可通过网关118成为有效的网络资源。接入设备的用户可选择接入设备上的信息是否可对网关有效，如是，哪些信息会成为有效，而哪些信息对网关118无效。此时，在有效信息处，网关118可维持一个资源列表，此资源列表在与网关118连接的接入设备上有效。例如，存储在接入设备上的联系信息、日历信息、音频文件、视频文件和/或数据文件的列表可被发送到网关118。
接入设备上有效的资源也可被广播到其他也可与网关118通讯的接入设备上。在接入设备上有效的资源的广播可被限定于例如特定设备列表、特定设备类型或者特定用户。相应的，用户可能必须在某些信息对其有效之前被适当的认证。另外，资源的广播可引起某些资源的图标代表显示在其他接入设备上。与此类似，这些在其他接入设备上有效的资源的图标代表也可在接入设备上展现。
可为接入设备提供一个欢迎界面，此界面可允许设备用户订购免费或付费服务。一旦订购完成，用户后续的接入可由网关118通过使用该订购信息来认证。无论何时接入设备注册和/或被网关118认证，接入设备上的信息可被升级和/或与可在网关118上的信息同步。
网关118范围内的设备可通过网关注册处理来配置以注册其某部分数据内容到网关118。一旦此设备的数据注册到网关118上，网关可维持一个数据库，此数据库可跟踪记录有效的信息及其位置。相应的，若预先存储于数据库的数据不再有效，则先前存储的数据的信息代表可被从数据库移除。源自连接于网关118的设备(如便携式电脑、CD播放器、数字化视频光盘(DVD)、TIVO、个人摄象机(PVRs)、个人数字助理(PDAs)及其他设备)上的数据可被注册在网关118上个人数字助理。该数据可包括音频、视频、静态图像和/或文字。
可通过网关118将注册数据的至少一部分设为对其他网络接入设备有效。在本发明的一个方面，网关118可用于维持可通过网关检索的有效数据列表。此时，网关可包括一个搜索引擎，该引擎可用于通过网关118定位和分发有效的数据。在本发明的另一方面，可通过网关118的广播将数据设为对接入设备有效。接入设备可配置为能查找到感兴趣的特定数据。相应的，可将接入设备配置为仅接收和处理那些符合特定标准的网关的广播。那些可能不符合特定标准的广播可被抛弃或忽略。
当接入设备在网关118的范围内时，无线服务可从GSM网络114内的服务蜂窝基站114a切换到网关118。接入设备可由网关118验证，并被允许访问由网关118提供的至少部分服务。一旦接入设备被验证，接入设备用户可希望定位一个特定的视频输出。用户可访问已被网关118广播到用户的接入设备的搜索引擎。该引擎可在用户接入设备上显示为一个图标。用户则可通过选择搜索引擎图标来激活搜索，并输入视频输出的名称并执行搜索。
在本发明的另一个实施例中，网关可用于跟据既定的标准将信息分类。此分类可根据特定标准来辅助进行信息的定位。此时，分类列表可显示给接入设备用户，该用户可根据特定标准从中选择感兴趣的一个。这样可缩小检索的重点。
网关还可被用于实现无线或有线连接于网关118的设备之间的无缝数据同步。例如，当无线接入媒体播放器用户等待登机时，在连接于网关118的PC内的音乐文件夹上的音频文件可与机场内连接于热点的无线媒体播放器同步。此时，网关可确定哪些文件需要同步并控制如何完成同步。对从PC下载到无线接入媒体播放器的文件和从无线接入媒体播放器上载到PC的文件，上述情况同样适用。日历和/或联系信息可通过类似的方式，使用网关118来更新和/或与移动多媒体手机同步。
位置敏感型服务确定网络设备的大概位置，并根据服务质量标准来调整特定服务应用和/或内容的传输。此位置敏感型服务的传输可由网关118控制。例如，接入设备用户可通过网关请求音频片断的回放。当收到音频片断的回放请求后，网关118可确定位于网关118和接入设备用户间的通道仅能维持降低了的回放速率。因此，网关可发送96kbps数据而不是发送128kbps编码音频数据。所以，若音频数据原被存储为1 28kbps取样音频数据，则网关118可将128kbps取样数据重编码为96kbps音频数据。
在本发明的另一个实施例中，当GSM网络114为接入设备提供服务时，可采用低压缩率来为接入设备提供服务。然而，当接入设备在无线接口120范围内漫游并由网关118通过无线接口120为其服务时，则可采用高压缩率。例如，当电话由GSM网络114中的蜂窝基站114a服务时，在64kbps数据率取样的音频数据可被用于在可用MP3的电话上回放。而一旦可用MP3的电话处于无线接口120的操作范围内，并由网关118为其服务时，网关118可自动调整到较高数据率，例如92kbps或128kbps。
网关118进行的自动格式转化可包括将数据从第一种格式转化到至少第二种格式，该第二种格式适合于在接入设备上传输和/或显示。这使得那些本不与第一种接入设备兼容的数据可在此第一种接入设备上播放。对基于QoS的位置敏感型服务，数据被从第一种格式的128kbps转换到第二种格式的96kbps，以达到和/或保持特定QoS，并且该数据类型仍然保持不变。此时，音频格式和/或其数据类型可能不同。例如，若音频格式为MP3，则经过转换后，格式保持为WAV和/或取样率可从128kbps下降到96kbps。
在传统的有线自动用户标识系统中，主叫用户的名字和/或电话号码(DN)可以在带内或带外被传输到被叫用户，当该呼叫被应答时，该名字和/或电话号码可被显示在被叫用户的来电显示上。在这些传统系统中，用户标识信息限于主叫用户名、电话号码(DN)、大概位置和/或通话时间。在无线电话系统中，为了节约带宽，只有主叫用户的电话号码被传输和显示给被叫用户。而当主叫用户的电话号码和名字存储在被叫用户的电话中时，该存储的名字和电话号将被显示在被叫用户的终端上。此时，比较存储的电话号码与传输来的用户号码，若匹配，则与电话号码匹配的名字也会显示在被叫用户的终端上。
根据本发明所述的实施例，网关118用于确定合适的主叫用户标识信息，该信息能在主叫和/或被叫用户的来电显示中显示出来。此时，相反的来电信息可通过网关118在主叫和被叫用户终端上被显示出来。
若被叫和/或主叫设备为移动多媒体手机和/或便携式电脑，例如，联系或其他个人信息可被显示在主叫和/或被叫用户的电话号码上。可被显示的信息的水平或数量可有差异。某些与主叫或被叫用户相关的敏感信息可被限制而不会显示出来。
在目前的蜂窝通讯系统中，使用空中下载(OTA)编程来在服务过程中为蜂窝电话编程。在某些情况下，蜂窝提供商建立了可被使用或被空中下载(OTA)的网站。此时，蜂窝用户可接入到网站并输入诸如分配的电话号码以及被编程的蜂窝电话的电子序列号之类的信息。
根据本发明所述的实施例中，接入设备可通过网关118用空中下载技术注册。当接入设备首次进入无线接口120的服务区域时，接入设备用户可通过使用诸如默认接口向网关118发送接入设备信息，该默认接口可出现并显示在接入设备的屏幕上。在注册过程中，接入设备的容量可被发送到网关118，并可与连接于网关118的设备共享。
由于网关用作所有有线或无线连接在其上的接入设备的信息注册器，网关可作为上述任何设备的个人数字助理。在实施例中，网关118可为第一设备、第一PC和第二PC服务。第一接入设备收一个通话，而用户来电显示信息显示出主叫用户的名字、家庭电话号码和家庭住址。然而，第一PC包含了主叫用户的公司地址，第二PC包含了主叫用户的月日程安排信息。假定主叫用户想召开一个商业会议，根据本发明的方面，网关118可用于向第一接入设备提供主叫用户的公司地址及其日程安排。通过这种方式，网络能集中提供所有安排会议必须的信息。在本例中，第一PC可属于第一接入设备的用户，而第二PC则属于主叫用户。
该概念可扩展到因特网上的查询或411目录帮助。该查询也可依赖位置。此时，若位于好莱坞的用户请求一个酒店位置信息，网关118可仅使位于好莱坞的酒店显示给该用户。
网关118也可用于创建基于数据应用的档案信息。这些创建出的档案信息可被用来为有共同兴趣的人们创建社区网络。相应的，可允许用户将其感兴趣的内容进行张贴，并根据创建出的档案信息选择有相同兴趣的人。根据创建出的档案信息和张贴出的用户兴趣，网关118也可产生拥有相同兴趣的人的列表，以及那些潜在的可能拥有相同的兴趣用户。
若对接入设备进行无缝操作的能力从屋外移往屋内，则最好存在可用于控制至少部分屋内设备的单一设备。除了其正常语音或数据通讯操作模式，可将接入设备配置为用作通用遥控，来遥控多个或其他诸如电视、DVD、CD、立体声、显示器或上述设备的结合。目前多数接入设备有红外发射器，该发射器可用于与其他红外接收设备通讯。
接入设备可用于无线通讯以及用于遥控诸如TV、CD/DVD录/放机或其他电子设备。接入设备也可包括至少一个软件按钮，该软件按钮可通过网关118使用并也可用来控制任意其他与网关118连接的设备。
网关118可用来虚拟地聚集对多个接入设备或其他网络设备可见的数据。尽管网关118可用以存储部分服务和内容相关的信息，网关118并不实际存储位于接入设备和/或以有线或无线方式连接于其上的其他网络设备上的数据备份。然而，网关118可存储诸如可用于定位和访问存储于接入设备和/或其他网络设备上的信息的元数据信息。因此，网关可作为服务和内容相关信息的注册器。
任何时候当接入设备在网关118上注册和/或被网关118确认，可从接入设备收集信息，相关元数据信息可被更新和/或同步于当前存储于网关118的信息。另外，当设备不再由网关118提供服务时，相关信息可从网关118被释放出来。此时，网关118执行的虚拟聚集功能确保来自接入设备的大部分当前信息是可访问的。
图2所示为根据本发明的一个典型实施例的示范通讯网络100的示意图。图2所示的通讯网络100包括无线接口120、位于位置102的具有调制解调器116的网关118。诸如接入设备124的接入设备可为移动的，并可在由无线接口120提供的个人局域网/无线局域网区域，和由诸如GSM网络114提供的广域网区域间移动。图2所示的接入设备124可对应于诸如图1所示的接入设备124。位置102可以是诸如接入设备124的用户家里、接入设备124的用户的朋友或亲戚家里，或办公室、商行等等接入设备124的用户在外时的位置。在本发明的一个典型实施例中，网关118可包括诸如以无线或有线方式连接到接入设备(诸如便携式电脑或电视，如图2中的便携式电脑117和电视115)的机顶盒。如前所述的到宽带网络的通讯带宽的接入可由图2所示的网关118和调制解调器116提供给位置102。调制解调器116通过宽带连接107连接于宽带接入提供商(BAP)106。宽带连接107可包括诸如数字用户线(DSL)连接、电缆网络连接、卫星连接、T1或T3网络连接、或类似的宽带通讯连接。调制解调器116与宽带连接107兼容，可为诸如DSL调制解调器、DOCSIS兼容的电缆调制解调器、卫星服务调制解调器、T1或T3兼容调制解调器类设备。宽带连接可通过BAP 106和传输网110提供到诸如GSM网络114的接入。
如图2所示，接入设备124的用户可参与也可不参与其他系统或通过GSM网络114接入的用户的通讯。尽管目前的示例描述了依据GSM网络114的操作，本发明的实施例也可被应用于其他广域网如图1所示的CDMA网络112和其他蜂窝/PCS服务提供商146。
在本发明的典型实施例中，接入设备124，或网关118和无线接口120，或上述组合可确定允许建立接入设备124和无线接口120之间的可接收的通讯通路的信号条件的某些点。该判定可基于诸如信号长度、信噪比、物理位置或距离、出错比或上述的任何组合。使用参数的类型和通讯通路建立的状况可由中心控制和管理模块148提供给接入设备124和/或网关118和无线接口120。当GSM网络114提供服务给接入设备124的用户时，此类参数和状况可被确定，或者也可在晚些时候确定。当确定服务切换合适时，接入设备124可诸如向GSM网络114发送通过无线接口120和网关118开始服务的要求，并通过诸如蜂窝基站114a的GSM网络114的无线基础设施停止空中下载服务。本发明的典型实施例可简单地通告用户到由网关118和无线接口120支持的PAN/WLAN的切换是可行的，或通告用户此切换已经或即将发生。该通告可采用诸如可听的音调或同步语音警告、诸如图标、文字、灯光指示器的指示，也可以是既可听也可视的指示的形式。这类指示可基于预先定义的接入设备124的用户与位置102处的网关118和无线接口120之间的联系。此联系可为位置102处的接入设备124的所有者的操作或发布、或为朋友、家庭而设置。例如接入设备124的接入设备和例如网关118的网关的联系，可以在从GSM网络114的操作者的服务开始的时候建立，也可在晚些时间建立。到接入设备124的有效联系的信息可由用户发布到接入设备124、网关118和无线接口120，方式可为设备处的直接方式，或通过例如短信服务(SMS)、空气参数管理(OTAPA)或其他从中心控制和管理模块148来的数据服务。
图3表示了本发明的实施的一个示范接入设备的显示300，其可与例如图1和图2的接入设备对应。图3的显示300包括网络指示310、网络服务指示域312、电池寿命指示314、当天时间显示316和日期显示318。电池寿命指示314的目的为显示接入设备的供电电池的剩余电量、当天时间指示316显示当天的时间、而日期显示318显示当前日期。显示300还可包括显示域320(如图3中，无内容)以使具有显示300的接入设备显示用于不同的原因和资源的图像或文字信息。
本发明的典型实施例中，正如图3所示，图标(显示为网络指示310的显示的天线图标)的可见性可指示接入设备124当前正通过广域网(例如图1的GSM网络114或CDMA网络112)操作在允许通讯的模式，并且WAN的信号的接受强度和质量也可被检测。天线图标旁边的线的序列可代表接收WAN信号的强度。有效的多媒体信息和服务可由网络服务指示域312的图标表示。网络指示310里的天线图标的出现可代表对于用户有效的多媒体信息和服务可根据WAN的能力来限制。注意指示和任何服务的有效性可由接入设备124的能力来评估，以支持使用WAN能力的服务。
图4表示本发明的另一个实施例的示范接入设备的显示400，其与例如图1和图2中的接入设备124对应。如图4所示，显示400包括网络指示410、网络服务指示域412、和电池寿命指示、当天时间指示、和与图3中相似的日期显示。显示400可包括显示域420(无内容显示)以使具有显示400的接入设备显示用于不同的原因和来自大量资源的图像或文字信息。
在图4中显示的典型实施例中，作为网络指示410的可见房屋图标表示接入设备124当前操作在允许通过个人局域网(PAN)或无线局域网(WLAN)(例如支持图1和图2的无线接口)的通讯模式下，并且PAN/WLAN信号可接收的强度或质量可被检测。网络指示410的房屋图标旁边的线序列可被用来表示接收的PAN/WLAN信号的强度。网络指示410状态的改变可与音频指示相伴，以提示用户注意网络状态的变化。注意尽管网络指示410的房屋图标和图3的网络指示310的天线图标交替占据显示300、400中的相同部分，其也可在显示300、400中的各自区域显示。
在本发明的一个典型实施例中，多媒体信息和代表的服务的有效性(例如在图4所示的网络服务指示器范围内，或在显示400的其他部分)，可被限制于那些可通过PAN/WLAN支持以服务接入设备124。通过PAN/WLAN到多媒体信息和服务的不同接入可与通过WAN有效的接入不同。例如，在PAN/WLAN服务范围内的接入设备用户可接入或使用那些需要较高带宽等级的信息和服务，该较高带宽不能被WAN支持。进入或离开诸如图2所示的网关118那样的宽带接入网关所支持的PAN/WLAN的覆盖区域，可能使得服务实现、服务质量和服务开销的改变，例如，可导致这些用户变化的通告。
图5表示本发明的典型实施例的示范接入设备的显示500，该接入设备可对应例如图1和图2的接入设备124。如图5所示，显示500包括广域网指示510a、个人局域网显示510b、网络服务指示域512、和与图3和图4里的功能和形式相似的电池寿命指示、当前时间指示、以及日期指示。显示500也可包括显示域520以使具有显示500的接入设备显示用于各种原因和来自大量资源的图像或文字信息。
图5所示的本发明的典型实施例中，广域网指示510a中的可见天线图标表明接入设备124当前检测到广域网的存在，例如图1所示的GSM网络114或CDMA网络112，并且该WAN的可接收强度的信号也可被检测到。如图3所示出的，广域网指示510a中的天线图标旁边的线序列可表示接收到的WAN信号的强度或质量。另外，个人局域网指示510b中的房屋图标的可见性可表示接入设备124当前检测到诸如由图1和图2中的无线接口120所支持的个人局域网或无线局域网的存在，以及能被检测到的PAN/WLAN可接收信号的强度。个人局域网指示510b的天线图标旁边的线序列，可表示诸如接收到的WAN信号的强度或质量。广域网指示510a和/或个人局域网指示510b的状态改变可伴随着音频指示，以引起用户的注意。
尽管仅为图5的显示500中的一个WAN和一个PAN/WLAN提供了图标和信号强度标识，但本发明并不只限于此。其他图标、信号强度指示和图形符号或对其他内容的指示以及对被由诸如图1所示的接入设备124所支持的另外的网络相关状况可被显示在如图5所示的显示500上。在图5所示的本发明的典型实施例中，来自多于单一WAN、WLAN或PAN的可接收信号的检测可导致对显示500上其他指示的激活。用于可提供接入设备或接入设备访问的各网络的独特的音频或视频标识的使用，可允许接入设备用户不间断的获知网络的状态和接入选项。此外，诸如有效网络列表和与各有效网络相关的信息可显示在显示500上的显示区域520。例如，图5所示的显示500显示了广域网显示510a和个人局域网显示510b均为可见的，并且显示区域520包括了当前有效网络列表。在显示区域520中显示的列表中的所有条目包括一种网络(如“蓝牙”和“WiFi”)。其他诸如信号强度、物理距离和/或位置、信号和/或网络质量指示器、使用开销、当前网络负载、网络传输时间或往复延迟的其他信息也可列入当前对接入设备124有效的各个网络。
在接入到网络之前，本发明的典型实施例可请求和等待由手动用户从诸如在图5中的显示区域520中显示的列表中进行选择。根据本发明的另一个实施例，可执行网络的自动选择，并可包括一个可以跳过自动选择的用户选项。如图5所示，被列为“BOB‘S”的网络被用选择指示器530标记出，并发出信号表示正在使用自动选择的网络。该网络选择可基于各种因素，包括诸如服务质量、开销、信号强度、信噪比、物理接近、出错率、提供的私密度级别、最大范围、网络负载或其他包括前述的各种因素。一旦选择确定，只要该网络有效，后续接入或切换可通过使用该被选择的网络实现。在本发明的其他典型实施例中，用户的通告和使用网络的选择可基于对来自有效网络的信号的连续评价，而网络的变化可基于诸如上述法则和用户偏好。将有效性和/或切换通告给用户的选择可基于诸如接入设备(如接入设备124)用户的法则和偏好，和/或基于由中心控制和管理模块148建立的参数。
在本发明的典型实施例中，接入设备(如图2所示的接入设备124)的用户可移至或移出WAN(诸如图2所示的GSM网络114)的覆盖区域，移至/移出宽带接入网关(诸如图2所示的网关118)支持的PAN/WLAN的覆盖区域。由于PAN/WLAN与WAN的容量差异，接入设备124访问多媒体信息和服务的各方面可能改变。例如，诸如GSM网络114的WAN可支持的通讯比通过网关118有效的通讯的带宽等级更低。通过WAN有效的带宽等级也许不能允许某些通讯模式，例如CD质量的音频或全动作视频。从WAN服务移动到通过宽带接入网关PAN/WLAN提供服务的区域，能访问到不能通过WAN访问的多媒体信息和服务，也能通过使用中的接入设备通告到。根据本发明的典型实施例的宽带接入网关可与宽带无线控制器或中心控制管理模块(诸如图2所示的BWC 114c和中心控制管理模块146)通讯，来检测对接入设备用户有效的服务的实现或有效服务的质量水平的变化。
在本发明的一个典型实施例中，例如，接入设备用户可订购音乐服务，并可使用接入设备(诸如接入设备124)通过广域网(诸如GSM网络114)来享受音乐服务，该接入设备可为移动多媒体手机，其质量等同于商业空中下载广播质量的立体声。当收听时，用户可能进入宽带接入网关(诸如图2所示的网关118)的覆盖区域。一旦进入网关118的覆盖区域，可被，例如可通过网关118来通告接入设备用户，CD质量立体声程序有效。在本发明的一个典型实施例中，用户可能已经预订接收CD等级质量的服务，并能自动切换到较高等级的服务。在本发明的另一个典型实施例中，可将上述服务的开销通告给用户，用户可被提示为较高服务质量级别付费。在又一个典型实施例中，用户可被要求提供验证其接入到网关118、BWC 114c和/或中心控制管理模块148的安全信息，来激活较高服务质量。与此类似，本发明的一个典型实施例可管理到很多不同多媒体信息和服务(诸如数字化音频、数据、数字化静态图像、数字化视频或上述组合)形式的访问。
在本发明的一个典型实施例中，与诸如便携式电脑117和网关118这样的宽带接入网关通讯的接入设备用户可分别参与到多媒体通话，并可选择从网关118的覆盖区域移动到诸如GSM网络114那样的广域网的覆盖区域中去。用户带着便携式电脑117从网关118的覆盖区域到GSM网络114的覆盖区域的移动可被便携式电脑117、网关118、GSM网络114或上述任意组合所检测到。便携式电脑117从网关118的服务到GSM网络114的服务的切换可被诸如网关118、BWC 114c和/或中心控制管理模块146所协调。在切换过程中，需注意GSM网络114不能提供网关118所提供的那种服务质量。在本发明的一个典型实施例中，可通告便携式电脑117的用户该通话在切换过程中可能改变。在本发明的另一个典型实施例中，可通告用户切换到GSM网络114可能产生额外的开销，并且可被给予选择通话种类(例如，降低服务质量，摒弃某些媒体形式等)或产生额外的费用的选项。用户也可被要求提供授权使用GSM网络114的安全信息。
使用本发明的一个典型实施例，由诸如GSM网络114那样的WAN所服务的接入设备(诸如接入设备124)的用户可能参与到一个电话会议中，并可能从GSM网络114的覆盖区域移动到被网关118和无线接口120所支持的PAN/WLAN的覆盖区域中。尽管电话会议的其他参与者可能交换多种媒体形式(例如，视听资料、文本、数据、应用文件等)，可由GSM网络114的容量(例如，服务WAN)和/或接入设备124的容量来将接入设备124的用户限定在通话的语音部分。接入设备124在网关118覆盖区域的出现可使得网关118、中心控制和管理功能148、BWC114c或上述任意组合开始将接入设备124从GSM网络114切换到被网关118所支持的PAN/WLAN。在此切换过程中，可识别电话会议的多媒体种类，并可确定接入设备用户现在能加入到原在GSM网络114中无效的多媒体方面中去。当用户的接入设备124位于网关118的无线接口120的覆盖范围内，中心控制管理模块148和/或BWC 114c可与网关118协调以将通话的有效方面通过任何接入到网关118的合适的接入设备通告用户。这可能包括如图2所示的位于位置102处的接入设备124、便携式电脑117和电视115。然后接入设备124的用户可选择通过使用诸如便携式电脑117或电视115，或通过包括接入设备124在内的与网关118通讯的其他任何合适的接入设备，来加入通话的其他多媒体组件。例如，可通告用户该电话会议可通过便携式电脑117、电视115或其他能处理通话并与网关118通讯的接入设备得以继续。可提示用户通话是通过哪个接入设备得以继续，并要求用户提供安全或其他信息来激活切换和改变服务质量。在本发明的不同典型实施例中，诸如服务开销的变化、所需认证或授权的等级、服务的质量可在通话切换前提供给用户。
尽管上文描述了在活动电话会议期间改变无线服务的实例，典型实施例并不限于此方面。例如，如上所述，接入设备的多媒体信息和服务接入可被诸如GSM网络114那样的服务WAN网络的局限所限定。然而，当进入到诸如网关118那样的无线宽带接入网关的覆盖区域时，可将增长的通讯带宽提供给接入设备，以激活到多媒体信息和服务的访问。

在本发明的一个典型实施例中，网关用于提供多个接入设备和多个网络间的无缝透明通讯。网关的功能可被划分为诸如应用内容功能和配置及管理功能。应用内容功能可处理诸如可由网关支持的应用类型，以及可由网关接收、处理和/和传输的各种数据类型。此时，应用内容功能也可包括其他设备和/或系统使用来自网关的数据的方式。
本发明的实施例支持的内容和应用服务是相当重要的，因为所有WAN端(例如，宽带连接端)、或PAN/WLAN端(例如，接入设备端)的进入和离开家的信息都在网关汇聚。PAN/VVLAN端可包括例如蓝牙/IEEE802.15.3a、无线局域网(802.11a/b/g)、和/或蜂窝网络。不仅如此，网关可用于将无线方式接收的GSM格式信息转换到例如IP格式的信息，或相反的，也可将IP格式的信息转换到适合空中下载的无线GSM格式信息。在本发明的一个典型实施例中，网关可包括适当的电路、逻辑和/或用以接收和处理MPEG相关数据的代码，此数据可适合在屏幕上显示。在本发明的典型实施例中的网关作为从多个有线和无线服务来的数据汇集的焦点。尽管在本发明的特定实施例中，网关也许做很少的实际的内容汇集，而是虚拟的汇聚。汇聚的数据可被整合和/或被使用来为登录从简单策略位置来的不同内容和应用服务提供不同机会。由于本发明的典型实施例的网关是数据汇集的焦点，可使用一或多个协议栈来登录不同的内容和应用服务。
本发明的典型实施例的网关可用于为基于已建立的准则来路由通话，该准则可编程到网关。例如，网关可由一个规则来掌握，该规则指定本地通话路由到当职本地交换载波(incumbent local exchange carrier，iLEC)，而长途通话则由长途载波公司处理。相应地，当通话在网关处生成并被确定为该通话为本地通话，网关可用于将该通话路由到iLEC。然而，如果网关确定该通话为长途通话，则网关将该通话路由到长途载波公司。
本发明的一个典型的实施例是解决由于使用安装在屋内、办公室和小型工作场合的无线宽带接入网关而引起的屋内和小型商务场合的开销和信号的传播或渗透问题。本据本发明的无线宽带接入网关可适用于使用非授权的诸如2.4或5.8GHz的频谱，并通常可作为网关和/或网桥。在本发明的另一个典型实施例中，宽带接入网关实际上可不仅作为实际网关更是网桥。由该网关使用的骨干联接可协调现有的在当今许多家庭和商务场所常见的宽带基础设施。由于消费者早已为他们家中或办公室内的宽带基础设施付费，影响现有用于与广域网通讯的宽带结构的使用导致了最小的或无通讯花费。宽带基础设施可为诸如线缆或DSL设施。
在本发明的一个典型实施例中，由位于家庭内的无线宽带接入网关所提供的无线接口功能，可用于通过宽带连接将大量数据路由到有线网络(例如宽带网络)或无线网络(例如GSM或CDMA网络)。换言之，家庭里的无线宽带接入网关基础设施提供了跨越在存在的接入基础设施上的可缩放网络基础设施，其存在的接入基础设施已由家庭、办公室或商务场所的宽带服务商提供了。另外，由无线宽带接入网关提供的可缩放基础设施也解决了与信号渗透和传递相关的问题，从而提高了服务质量(QoS)。从市场前景来看，无线服务供应商现在具有到必需设施的接入，为家庭或办公室用户提供改进的无线服务。相应地，为了促进其快速成长，无线服务供应商现在可瞄准家庭内通讯线或明码老电话系统(POTS)商业部分，该部分以前由iLEC或其他LEC处理。
以上描述的未授权的移动接入网关占用极大量的处理功率。实现。大量基本或改进的通讯服务可由根据本发明的一个典型实施例的网关实现或提供。诸如嵌入了蜂窝电话、个人数字助理、静态和/或照相机、和音频播放器的高度功能性结合的移动多媒体手机的接入设备可使用诸如这些由数字技术的新潮流提供的基础和提高的通讯服务。本发明的典型实施例提供了日常消费者使用所需的支持的范围。
相应地，本发明可用硬件、软件、或硬件和软件的结合实现。可以用一个计算机系统中的集中方式或者用分布方式(其中不同的元件散布在若干个互连的计算机系统上)来实现本发明。用于执行本文所述方法的任何种类的计算机系统和其它装置都是适合的。典型的硬件和软件的结合可以是具有计算机程序的通用计算机，当加载并执行该计算机程序时，其控制计算机系统以使其执行本文所述的方法。
也可将本发明嵌入计算机程序产品中，该计算机程序产品包括能执行本文所述方法的所有特征，当在计算机系统中加载该计算机程序时可执行这些方法。本发明内容中的计算机程序可以是用任何语言、代码或符号的指令集的表达式，该指令集用于使具有信息处理能力的系统直接、在以下过程的任意一个之后或者在以下两个过程之后执行特定功能：a)转换为另一种语言，代码或者符号；b)以不同物质形式再现。
虽然已经参考某些实施例描述了本发明，本领域技术人员应该理解在不脱离本发明范围的前提下可以作出各种改变和等价替换。此外，在不脱离该范围的前提下可以作出一些修改以使特定环境或者物质用于本发明的教学。因此，本发明并不打算局限于所公开的具体实施例，然而本发明将包括落入附属权利要求保护范围中的所有实施例。

Claims (10)

1、一种支持移动用户接入多媒体信息的系统，其特征在于，所述系统包括：
通讯连接于宽带网络和至少一个无线接口的网关，所述网关能在至少一个无线接口和宽带网络中有选择的交换多媒体信息，并能通过至少一个无线接口与多个接入设备通讯，所述多个接入设备中的至少一部分能通过无线广域网通讯；
所述多个接入设备中的至少一部分能无缝地从一个无线广域网及至少一个无线接口切换到另一个；以及
所述多个接入设备中的至少一部分能将与无线广域网及至少一个无线接口的通讯状态通告给用户。
2、根据权利要求1所述的系统，其特征在于，所述多媒体信息包括视频流、广播视频、数字化音频、数字化视频及数字化静态图像中的至少一个。
3、根据权利要求1所述的系统，其特征在于，至少一个无线接口与蓝牙V1.2或与个人局域网规范兼容。
4、根据权利要求1所述的系统，其特征在于，至少一个无线接口与电气和电子工程师协会的802.11a、802.11b、802.11g和802.11n标准中的至少一个兼容。
5、一种操作网关以支持移动多媒体通讯的方法，其特征在于，所述方法包括：
通过宽带网络启动通讯；
通过个人局域网和宽带网络中的至少一个收集信息，该信息包括对至少一个接入设备的访问；
接收请求以将至少一个接入设备中的无线多媒体通讯在无线广域网和个人局域网之间切换；以及
通过宽带网络与无线广域网相协调，将至少一个接入设备中的一个的多媒体通讯在无线广域网和个人局域网之间切换，至少一个接入设备中的一个能将此切换通知用户。
6、根据权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，个人局域网与蓝牙V1.2或与个人局域网规范兼容。
7、根据权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，个人局域网与电气和电子工程师协会(IEEE)的802.11a，802.11b，802.11g和802.11n标准中的至少一个兼容。
8、根据权利要求5所述的方法，其特征在于，个人局域网通过未许可的频段通讯。
9、一种机器可读存储器，其上存储有计算机程序，该程序具有用于操作网关来支持多个接入设备的远程配置和控制的代码段，其特征在于，所述代码段由机器执行以使机器提供以下操作：
通过宽带网络启动通讯；
通过个人局域网和宽带网络中的至少一个收集信息，该信息包括对至少一个接入设备的访问；
接收请求以将至少一个接入设备中的无线多媒体通讯在无线广域网和个人局域网之间切换；以及
通过宽带网络与无线广域网相协调，将至少一个接入设备中的一个的多媒体通讯在无线广域网和个人局域网之间切换，至少一个接入设备中的一个能将此切换通知用户。
10、根据权利说明9中的机读存储器，其特征在于，个人局域网与蓝牙V1.2或与个人局域网规范兼容。
