发明背景
1.发明领域
本发明涉及对防止复制的广播信号的记录,更具体地,本发明涉及到实现对广播信号的复制一次保护。
2.技术背景
现今,有许多不同的广播媒体,在这些媒体中用户可观看到各种类型的节目。某些类型的节目(例如“每次观看付费”(Pay perview))典型地是额外收费的,用户通过付费来接收特定的广播。在有线电视以及卫星传输广播(STB)中可找到这方面的一个例子。为防止非法复制某些节目,开发了不同的技术,它们把信息编码到广播信号中以使得用户虽然能看到广播,但当试图纪录广播时,数据就被弄乱。
图1是传统的家庭系统的设置的简化方框图。该系统包括广播接收机,例如是所示的电视机或卫星广播接收机。接收机10一般包括:电路15,它用于完成某些初始的信号处理,例如解调、纠错;译码器20,它用于译码广播数据分组的输送层;电路25,它用于解压视频;和控制器30,它用以控制接收机。另外,接收机可包括复制防止电路35,它把信号编码到接收的广播中,从而,广播可被显示装置40显示但不能被记录。如果广播被记录,则被编码到广播中的复制防止信号使得记录的广播信号被弄乱。在Ryan的美国专利No.5,130,810中描述了复制防止处理的一个例子。
记录装置(例如录像机45)一般被连接到接收机10的输出端。如技术上熟知的,输入到记录装置45的信号典型地在记录到记录媒体之前被进行调控。由电路50执行自动增益控制处理,使视频信号处在用于记录的可接受的信号范围内。电路52被用来分离出用于广播的同步信号。其后,亮度和色度被分开,电路55用于进行处理;电路60、65和重新组合的电路70用于向记录媒体75进行输出。
把对于某一个广播的一次记录能力(“每次记录付费”(Pay-per-record))的选择机会提供给用户是有利的。可以预想到,这消除了去到商店购买录像带的需要。所以,希望提供一次复制能力,从而使得在完成一次复制后,禁止以后的复制。
发明概要
本发明的方法和装置提供一种机制和用于实现这一机制的处理,以使得能实现对于被保护的广播的单次记录。此后的非法复制是通过编码一个信号而使其受到禁止的,该信号使得在重放非法复制件期间该广播被弄乱。广播被进行编码以便指示:单次复制是合法的。如果复制是合法的,则控制信号被输入到记录装置,在其中信号被调控以便进行记录,并在把被调控的信号放置到记录媒体上之前,对该复制防止信号进行编码。这样,如果进行第二次复制(它是非法的),则该复制防止信号将使得记录的第二复制件被弄乱,以使得该复制件对于非法复制者没有价值。然而,对第一复制件的以后重放将产生出清晰的可视信号,因为该复制防止信号并不影响合法复制件的重放。
可以预期,该机制很简单,且实现起来便宜。在一个实施例中,设置了由广播信号译码器控制的第一开关以便阻止广播信号输入到记录器中,如果复制未被授权的话。译码器译码接收的广播信号,并确定广播信号给出了无限制复制还是单次复制授权。如果提供了单次或无限制复制授权,则允许广播信号被提供到记录装置。然后,对输入信号进行信号调控,例如自动增益控制。如果由译码器识别出是单次复制授权,则亮度和色度信号被分离开,且复制防止信号被编码到亮度信号中。复制防止信号允许记录当前授权的复制件,但禁止制作以后的复制件。如果用户试图进行下一次的复制,则该复制件将被弄乱,对其进行重放将导致产生被弄乱的广播。然而,广播的第一次记录在以后可被重放以产生清晰的广播图象,因为复制防止信号并不影响第一次记录的广播在以后的重放。

详细描述
在以下的用于解释的描述中,阐述了许多细节以便提供对本发明的透彻的了解。然而,本领域的技术人员将会看到,这些特定细节对于实践本发明并不是必需的,以及在其它例子中,熟知的电结构和电路以方框图的形式显示,以免不必要地扰乱本发明。
描述了用于允许记录广播的单次复制件的创新的方法和装置。该方法和装置按照数字广播业务(例如卫星传输(STB)广播业务)的情况来描述的。一个例子是DIRECTVTM直接广播系统(DBS)。然而,可以预期,也可以以其他类型的广播形式来实现。
处理过程可参照图2来描述。在步骤205,接收广播信号。在本实施例中是通过DBS接收机来接收广播的,例如SONY公司制造的接收机。步骤210实行起始译码处理。在本实施例中,接收的分组的传送层被译码,以恢复存储在分组中的视频数据和音频数据有效负载。另外,本实施例规定,复制控制信号在此时被译码。优选地,将版权标志放置在分组的标题中。虽然复制控制信号被描述为是从分组的传送层得出的,但可以预期,复制保护信息例如可分开地通过连接的电话线或付款装置来传送。
在步骤215,如果记录不被执行,则复制防止信号被编码到接收的音频/视频数据中,(步骤220),并且产生一个输出送到显示装置(步骤225),显示装置例如是供用户观看广播的监视器。
复制防止信号阻止非法拷贝;然而,复制防止信号并不影响输入的广播的显示过程。如果要记录广播(步骤215),则必须检查复制控制信号,以确定复制是否非法的(步骤217)。可以预期,复制控制信号可识别出三种可能状态。第一,不允许拷贝;第二种状态是,只允许一次拷贝;以及第三种状态是,允许无限制拷贝。如前所述,单次复制授权可使得用户实际上 不用离开家就能买到录像带。
继续参照图2,如果不允许拷贝(步骤235),则送到记录器的输入信号被阻塞,阻止制作非法拷贝。如果允许一次拷贝或无限制拷贝(步骤240),则广播信号被输入到记录器。然后,信号被调控以便进行记录(步骤245)。在记录媒体(例如录像带)上记录信号之前,应立即将复制防止信号编码到视频信息流中去(步骤250)。视频信号连同编码的复制防止信号于是被记录在记录媒体上(步骤255)。由于复制防止信号是通过以信息来编码信号而阻止非法的复制,这样,当信号在记录前被调控时信号被弄乱,因而在对信号进行调控之后但被放置到记录媒体之前,复制防止信号的放置并不影响记录的信号。所以,重放记录的广播是可能的。然而,如果用户试图从记录媒体制作第二次拷贝,则复制防止信号将起作用以禁止进行相关的复制。对于有关产生复制防止信号的例子的信息,请参看Ryan的美国专利No.5,130,810。
图3显示了按照本发明的教导的示例性的装置。该装置被表示为单个单元300,它通常可被描述为包括接收机357和记录电路360。然而,可以预想到,电路可以以多个单元实现。广播信号通过前端电路305接收,该电路完成对接收的直接广播信号(DBS)的某些初始信号处理。译码器310译码输送层,并确定对接收的广播的复制防止。CPU 315作用是控制接收机电路357、记录器电路360和其它单元的电路,包括控制观看和记录的鉴权。
由输送层译码器310输出的音频/视频数据被输出到解压缩电路320。在本实施例中,该电路按照动画专家小组(MPEG)标准运行。然而,也可以利用其它视频压缩技术。一旦解压,数据被送到复制防止电路325,它把复制防止信号编码到广播信号。因而,对通过复制电路325处理后的信号的任何记录将导致产生混乱的记录的广播。然后,该信号通过开关330被输出到监视器或显示装置335。
解压电路320的输出也被输入到第一开关340。开关的打开和关闭由译码器310输出的复制控制信号控制。信号沿线路345被输出,并通过开关340和复制防止电路350被输入。
在线路345接收到的复制控制信号可处在三个状态之一以表示:(1)不允许拷贝,(2)允许无限制拷贝,或(3)允许单次复制广播。如果不允许拷贝广播,则开关340保持打开,以阻塞信号输入到记录电路340。然而,如果复制控制信号表示:允许单次或无限制复制,则解压信号被输入到记录电路360。由子电路365执行自动增益控制,以便使视频信号调整到适当的用于记录的信号电平。然后,同步信号被电路370分离出,以及亮度和色度信号被电路375、380和390分离出以用于处理。
复制防止电路350处理视频的亮度部分以编码复制防止信号。虽然本实施例处理亮度信号,但复制防止电路可替换地被安排成处理由色度电路390输出的色度信号,或同时处理亮度和色度信号。
复制防止电路350由线路345输出的复制控制信号控制。如果允许无限制拷贝,则复制防止电路将简单地使亮度信号通过加法电路395,以便输出到记录媒体397。然而,如果允许单次复制,则复制防止电路用复制防止信号来编码亮度信号,从而禁止进行以后的复制。
如前所述,复制防止信号并不禁止重放被记录在媒体397上的广播。因此,装置300可包括本领域技术人员公知的重放电路398,它被用来重放记录的广播。重放电路398的输出被输入到开关330,开关330可以使得从重放机构398供出的广播信号或者由前端305接收并通过译码器310、解压器320、和复制防止电路325被处理的广播信号能够被显示。
可以看到,如果用户试图例如通过把记录装置连接到开关的输出端来产生拷贝,则由于复制防止信号被编码到视频之中,因而所得的拷贝将是混乱的。单次复制是允许的,这是因为一直到自动增益控制电路365处理了输入的数据以后,复制防止信号未被编码到记录装置的数据中。在本实施例中,复制防止信号当通过自动增益控制电路365进行处理时使视频数据混乱。然而,可以预想到,复制防止信号可被不同地进行设计,以便以类似方式对记录电路的其它部分起作用,从而提供有选择地禁止和允许记录广播的同样的目的和效果。

Claims (12)
1.一种用于有选择地允许对广播进行单次合法复制的记录设备,包括:
接收装置,用于接收广播信号;
译码器,用于译码所接收的广播信号,以便确定对广播的复制防止,所述译码器导致产生复制控制信号;
第一开关,它被连接成用于接收广播及响应于复制控制信号,以便在控制信号表示允许至少复制一次广播时,允许广播从该开关被输出;
连接到第一开关的记录器,用于把广播记录在记录媒体上,所述记录器包括用于调控广播信号以便将其复制在记录媒体上的多个单元,所述多个单元包括第一单元,它用于在复制防止信号已被放置到广播中时输出被弄混乱的广播信号,以及连接在第一单元和记录媒体之间的第一复制防止发生器,它用于在复制控制信号表示允许一次记录时,把复制防止信号放置在广播中以防止额外地进行记录。
2.权利要求1中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,还包括连接在译码器和显示装置之间的第二复制防止发生器,用于把复制防止信号放置在广播中以防止记录广播;以及
第二开关,被连接成可用于有选择地接收广播信号和记录的广播的重放信号,以及将显示信号输出到广播显示装置去。
3.权利要求1中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,其中所述广播信号包括输送层,所述输送层包括表示不允许对广播进行记录、或允许进行一次记录或允许进行无限制记录的标记。
4.权利要求3中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,其中译码器包括输送层译码器。
5.权利要求1中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,其中记录器包括录象机(VCR)。
6.权利要求1中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,其中第一单元包括自动增益控制电路。
7.权利要求1中所述的记录装置,其特征在于,其中广播信号是数字广播信号。
8.一种用于有选择地允许对广播进行单次合法复制的方法,包括以下步骤:
接收广播信号;
译码所接收的广播信号以确定对广播的复制防止以及产生复制防止信号;
当复制控制信号表示不允许记录广播时,有选择地阻止记录译码的广播信号;
把广播记录在记录媒体上,其中包括以下步骤:调控译码的广播信号以便进行记录;当复制控制信号表示允许一次记录时,把复制防止信号放置到已调控的广播信号中以防止额外地进行记录;以及把已调控的复制防止广播信号放置在记录媒体上,如果复制防止信号放置适当,则所述的调控译码的广播信号的步骤使得已调控的译码的广播信号被弄混乱。
9.权利要求8中所述的方法,其特征在于,还包括以下步骤:
如果译码的广播信号要被直接输出到显示装置,则把复制防止信号放置到广播中以防止记录广播信号。
10.权利要求8中所述的方法,其特征在于,其中所述译码步骤对广播信号的输送层进行译码,所述输送层包括表示不允许对广播进行记录、或允许进行一次记录、或允许无限制记录的标记。
11.权利要求8中所述的方法,其特征在于,其中调控译码的广播信号的步骤包括对译码的广播信号执行自动增益控制的步骤。
12.权利要求8中所述的方法,其特征在于,其中接收广播信号的步骤包括接收数字广播信号的步骤。
