Cross Reference to Related Applications
The present application claims priority from US 17/488,556 filed on 9.29 in 2021 and FR 2113707 filed on 12.16 in 2021, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.
Technical Field
The present disclosure relates to cosmetic treatment methods of adding fibers to natural eyelashes and corresponding assemblies.
Background
Eyelash extensions and false eyelashes are used to increase the length, thickening, and fullness of natural eyelashes.
Various methods of applying the extension of eyelashes may be performed. The main method is to individually adhere the fibers forming the extended portion to the ciliary threads one by one, thereby preventing the fibers from being adhered to each other. The eyelash extension can be maintained about three to four weeks.
Application of the extension of eyelashes typically requires a professional, is quite expensive, and typically requires one to two hours. Application of the eyelash extension typically requires the use of complex tools to handle the eyelash extension when not applied by a professional.
For non-professional applications, some products include a mascara tube and a free fiber tube. For most such products, there are three application steps: (i) apply mascara to the lashes, (ii) quickly apply free fibers to the tips of the lashes before the mascara dries completely, and then (iii) then apply mascara again for final styling. Such products have two disadvantages. First, they tend to have thin fluffy white free fibers (especially very thin fibers less than 30 μm in diameter, which fly easily upon application and fall near the consumer's eye area). Secondly, the fluffy fibers tend to be easily brushed off during or after application of the mascara.
Thus, techniques that avoid these drawbacks are useful and desirable.
Disclosure of Invention
In the disclosed method, these disadvantages are solved by applying new thicker (thicker) fibres electrostatically, especially using a micro-brush with specific characteristics, and using glue as a first step to fix the fibres, and later brushing the mascara as a last step. None of the currently or previously available products utilize glue and individual fibers applied using micro-bristle brushes for eye makeup products.
An inexpensive and simple method of extending eyelash length by applying an eyelash extension is disclosed. The method generally comprises three steps: (i) Applying a water-based or oil-based glue to the distal portion of the eyelashes using a first applicator; (ii) Allowing the water-based glue or oil-based glue to dry for a period of time (e.g., less than 10 seconds); and (iii) placing one or more separate individual fibers onto the distal portion of the eyelashes using a second applicator. It is critical that the second applicator should be a micro-bristle brush applicator having a bristle density of greater than 4 bristles per mm 2, each individual fiber should be held electrostatically only by the micro-bristle brush applicator, the individual fibers should be greater than 30 microns in diameter and should be 4mm or less in length.
Once the individual fibers have been placed onto the eyelashes, mascara may then be optionally applied to the eyelashes and the individual fibers using another applicator configured for applying mascara.
The water-based glue or oil-based glue may have certain advantageous components. In some embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue comprises a total of 40 to 60 wt% of the plurality of solvents. The water-based glue or oil-based glue may optionally, or further, comprise a plurality of copolymers in a total amount of 40 to 50 wt% of the composition, wherein each of the plurality of copolymers comprises: (i) A monomer of one of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or a simple ester thereof, (ii) a hydrogenated styrene monomer; or (iii) combinations thereof. The water-based glue or oil-based glue may optionally comprise, or further comprise, less than 3 wt% of a thickener.
Advantageously, each separate individual fiber comprises a synthetic fiber, such as rayon or nylon (e.g., nylon 6).
A kit for implementing the disclosed method is also disclosed. The kit comprises, consists essentially of, or consists of: (i) A first composition comprising a water-based glue or an oil-based glue; (ii) A first applicator configured to apply the first composition to eyelashes; (iii) A plurality of separate individual fibers, each fiber having a diameter greater than 30 microns and a length of 4mm or less; (iv) A second applicator (micro brush applicator) configured to electrostatically place the separated individual fibers onto the eyelashes, the micro brush applicator having a bristle density of greater than 4 bristles per mm 2; (v) Optionally, a second container configured to contain the plurality of separate individual fibers, preferably the second container has a wall defining a single opening, the second applicator being configured to cover the single opening; and (vi) optionally instructions for use. Optionally, the first applicator is formed as part of a cap on a first container, wherein the first container (which may be, for example, a glass or plastic bottle) defines an interior volume having a single opening covered by the cap, the interior volume containing the first composition. Preferably, the first container is waterproof.
In some embodiments, the kit may optionally include: a second composition comprising mascara, and a third applicator configured to apply the second composition to at least a portion of the combined eyelashes and the separated individual fibers after the separated individual fibers have been placed on the eyelashes. Optionally, the third applicator is formed as part of a cap on a third container, wherein the third container (which may be, for example, a glass or plastic bottle) defines an interior volume having a single opening covered by the cap, the interior volume containing the second composition.

Detailed Description
As used herein, the term "free of [ ingredient ]" means that the identified ingredient is only present in an amount below its detectable limit, and preferably, the composition comprises 0% of the identified ingredient.
As used herein, the term "substantially free of [ ingredients ]" means that the composition contains less than 1% of the identified ingredients.
Embodiments of the disclosed method may be best described with reference to fig. 1.
As shown in fig. 1, an embodiment of the disclosed method 10 will generally include a series of steps.
The first step 20 involves applying a water-based or oil-based glue (sometimes referred to herein as an adhesive) to the distal portion of one or more eyelashes. Referring briefly to fig. 3, eyelashes 80 extend outwardly from eyelid 82 away from the eye toward distal portion 81.
As used herein, "water-based glue" refers to a glue that contains at least 1% water. Typically, such compositions will contain a variety of water-soluble ingredients. As used herein, "oil-based glue" refers to a glue that contains less than 1% water. Preferably, the oil-based glue is free of water and silicone.
The glue used in the disclosed method is not mascara. The glue used in some embodiments of the disclosed method is preferably substantially free of wax, or free of wax. The glue used in some embodiments of the disclosed methods is preferably substantially free of pigments and/or colorants, or free of pigments and/or colorants. More preferably, the glue used in some embodiments of the disclosed methods is substantially free of, or free of, waxes, pigments and/or colorants.
The glue used in the disclosed method will have a high tack. As used herein, "tackiness" refers to the quality exhibited by a composition that adheres to an object after application to a substrate. The tackiness may be assessed by any method known in the art for assessing tackiness, for example using a texture analyzer. For example, a sample may be applied to a substrate (e.g., knife coating (drawdown) 1 mil), allowed to dry (e.g., 1 minute), and contacted by an object such as a rubber cone sampler (tip 18.3mm, height 29mm, bottom 25.4 mm), and then the force associated with removing the sampler from the object may be measured and reported as tackiness (g). After the drying period, the measurement may be performed for less than 5 minutes, for example 3 minutes to 3.5 minutes. Preferably, the glue of the invention has an adhesive property of more than 45g, preferably more than 50g, preferably more than 70g, preferably more than 90g, preferably more than 100g, as determined by the method. Thus, preferably, the glue of the present invention has adhesive properties of about 30g to about 200g, preferably about 50g to about 150g, preferably about 70g to about 130g (including all ranges and subranges therebetween, e.g., about 45g to about 110g, about 50g to about 110g, about 70g to about 120g, about 90g to about 115g, etc.).
In some embodiments, the water-based or oil-based glue may be, for example, selected from the group of those sold under American International Industries known asAn adhesive composition for eyelashes of an eyelash adhesive, or an adhesive composition for eyelashes (acrylate/ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer) called Daitosol 5500GM sold by DAITO KASEI KOGYO.
Other water-based glues or oil-based glues may be used. For example, in various embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue may comprise:
(A) A plurality of solvents in a total amount of 40 to 60% by weight of the composition. In some embodiments, the water-based or oil-based glue may comprise ethanol in a total amount of 3 to 8 wt% of the composition. In some embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue may comprise water, ethanol, or both, in a total amount of 40% to 60% by weight of the composition.
(B) A plurality of copolymers in an amount of 40% to 50% by weight of the composition, wherein each of the plurality of copolymers comprises: (i) A monomer of one of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or a simple ester thereof, (ii) a hydrogenated styrene monomer; or (iii) combinations thereof.
(C) Less than 3% by weight of thickener.
In some embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue may comprise (a) and (B). In some embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue may comprise (a) and (C). In some embodiments, the water-based glue or oil-based glue may comprise (a), (B), and (C).
The second step of the method 10 involves waiting 30 for at least a short period of time to allow the water-based glue or oil-based glue to begin to dry. The time is typically based on the solvent system used and the time t should be less than the time required for the glue to dry completely on the eyelashes. The time t may be t.ltoreq.30 seconds, t.ltoreq.25 seconds, t.ltoreq.20 seconds, t.ltoreq.15 seconds, t.ltoreq.10 seconds, or t.ltoreq.5 seconds. In some embodiments, t is at least 3 seconds. For example, 3 seconds.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.30 seconds, 3 seconds.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.20 seconds, or 3 seconds.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.10 seconds.
The third step of the method 10 includes electrostatically holding/adhering at least one fiber (optionally, only one fiber) to the second applicator 40. This is typically accomplished by contacting the applicator with the fibers. The micro brush applicator and the fibers will be discussed separately below. In some embodiments, one fiber is electrostatically adhered prior to performing the next step of the process. In some embodiments, the plurality of fibers are electrostatically adhered prior to performing the next step of the method.
Preferably, the fibers are in a plastic container having a single opening. Pulling the micro-brush out of the container, one or more fibers electrostatically attracted to the bristles of the micro-brush. In some embodiments, the micro-brush may twist as the brush is pulled out of the container to adsorb more fibers.
Micro-brush applicator
The second applicator is a micro-bristle brush applicator having a bristle density of greater than 4 bristles per mm 2. Micro-bristle spreaders are generally known in the art. For example, U.S. patent nos. 8,201,566 and 10,681,973 describe examples of micro-bristle brush applicators.
An example of such an applicator can be seen with reference to fig. 2. As shown in fig. 2, the micro-brush applicator 70 includes a handle portion 75 at the proximal end 73 of the applicator and a bristle portion 76 at the distal end 74 of the applicator. The bristle portion 76 extends generally longitudinally from the handle portion 75 to the distal end 74 a distance L.
The bristle portion 76 includes one or more high density regions 77. Each high density region 77 includes a plurality of bristles 78 projecting radially outwardly from the core 72. The length L of the core may vary in different embodiments, but is typically from about 10mm to about 50mm. The core may be formed from a variety of materials, including plastics, and in some embodiments, the core may be non-metallic. The core may have any cross-sectional shape, such as circular, octagonal, free-form, etc.
Each high density region extends longitudinally. The bristles meet specific bristle density criteria to enable efficient transfer of individual fibers to the eyelashes. The brush may comprise a single high density region or a plurality of high density regions. In some embodiments, the one or more high density regions may constitute substantially the entire brush. For example, the brush 70 of FIG. 2 includes a single high density region 77 having a length equal to the length L of the bristle portion 76.
Each bristle can generally be formed of any thermoplastic material, optionally, the material is relatively rigid, such as: styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS); a silicone rubber; latex rubber; a material having good slip resistance; butyl rubber; ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM); nitrile rubber; a thermoplastic elastomer; polyesters, polyamide polyethylene, or vinyl elastomers; polyolefins, such as Polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP); polyvinyl chloride (PVC); vinyl Acetate (EVA); polystyrene (PS); SEBS; styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS); polyethylene terephthalate (PET); polyoxymethylene (POM); polyurethane (PU); styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN); polyamide (PA); or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Ceramics (e.g. alumina-based ceramics), resins (e.g. urea-formaldehyde type resins), possibly graphite-filled materials, may also be used. In particular, the known trade name Teflon (R) may be used, (This list is not limiting) materials. Preferably, each bristle is formed from at least one thermoplastic elastomer.
The size of the individual bristles may vary in different embodiments. In particular, bristle length and bristle diameter can greatly affect bristle performance. As used herein, bristle length is measured as the exposed length of the bristles that protrude radially outward beyond the outer surface of the core, rather than considering the length of any additional bristle length below the outer surface of the core. It has been found that bristle lengths of about 1mm to about 3mm (e.g., bristle lengths of about 1mm, about 1.25mm, about 1.5mm, about 2.0mm, about 2.5mm, and/or about 3 mm) are preferred in the high density region for application of the formulation to the fine hair.
The bristle diameter is estimated along the distance between the outer ends of the bristles and the ends of the bristles near the base and near the core surface. The bristle diameter should be determined at the closest base after any rounding or chamfering at or near the core surface at the bristle base. The bristle diameter is the maximum cross-sectional distance (width, diameter, etc., determined by the cross-sectional geometry of the bristle) of the bristle in the portion just above the base and any circles, chamfers, etc., near the base. The bristle diameter may be about 0.15mm to about 0.35mm, for example, about 0.15mm, about 0.175mm, about 0.2mm, about 0.25mm, about 0.3mm, and about 0.35mm.
Bristle density is a critical variable of the high density region configured to electrostatically transfer fibers to the eyelashes. One key measure of bristle density is the number of bristles relative to the surface area of the core. It has been found that in order to effectively electrostatically transfer fibers to the eyelashes, the bristle density in the high density region should be at least 4 complete bristles per square millimeter of core surface area (i.e., nominal core surface area, regardless of the surface area occupied by the bristles themselves). In some embodiments, the bristle density d B is d B > 4 bristles per mm 2,dB > 5 bristles per mm 2,dB > 6 bristles per mm 2.
Fiber
The nominal outer diameter D of each individual fiber for the disclosed method should be at least 30 microns, but preferably D is greater than 30 microns. In some embodiments, D is greater than or equal to 30 μm, D is greater than 35 μm, and D is greater than 40 μm.
The total length L F of each separate individual fiber for the disclosed method should be 4mm or less. In some embodiments, L F≤4mm,LF.ltoreq.3.5 mm, or L F.ltoreq.3 mm, and L F≥1mm,LF≥1.5mm,LF.gtoreq.2 mm, or any combination thereof. For example, in some embodiments, 2mm L F 3.5mm, or 1mm L F 4mm.
Preferably, each separate individual fiber comprises a synthetic fiber, such as rayon or nylon (e.g., nylon 6).
Referring back to fig. 1, once the applicator electrostatically adheres the fibers, the fourth step of the method 10 is to place the fibers 50 onto the distal portion of the eyelashes.
A simplified schematic diagram thereof can be seen in fig. 3. Here, the fibers 90 adhere electrostatically to the micro-bristle brush applicator 70 (and specifically to bristles 78 extending from the core 72 of the applicator). Preferably, the first end 91 of the fiber 90 is closer to the core 72 of the micro brush applicator 70 than the second end 92. Preferably, the first ends 91 of the fibers 90 are in and between the microfiber bristles; that is, the first end 91 is in the volume of space defined by the outermost edge of each bristle 78 of the micro-bristle brush applicator 70. More preferably, no more than 40% of the total length of the fibers is in this volume of space (in other words, 60% of the total length of the fibers is farther from the core than the outermost ends of the bristles with which the fibers are in contact). Preferably, the second end 92 of the fiber extends outwardly in a direction substantially away from the core 72 to place the second end 72 in a position that is more likely to contact the distal portion of the eyelashes.
The applicator 70 is raised so that the fibers 90 contact the distal portion 81 of the eyelashes 80, with the dry adhesive composition on the distal portion 81 of the eyelashes 80. At this point, the applicator 70 may then be moved away from the face, and additional fibers may be applied using the applicator 70 if desired. Preferably, the end portion of each fiber (e.g., some portion of the fiber that is no more than 25% of the length of the fiber from either end) is adhered to the distal portion of the eyelashes (e.g., some portion of the eyelashes that is no more than 25% of the length of the eyelashes from the most distal end) such that a majority (preferably all) of each fiber extends beyond the distal portion of the eyelashes to which the fiber is attached.
Referring again to fig. 1, it can be seen that the method 10 may involve multiple iterations of adhering fibers to a brush and placing it onto the eyelashes. However, once the desired fibers are placed, the method 10 may optionally include applying the mascara 60 to the placed fibers.
Mascara compositions are well known in the art; such compositions may be water-based or anhydrous and will typically contain pigments or other colorants, as well as film formers, thickeners, solvents, and/or other additives. Any suitable mascara may be used herein.
As shown in fig. 4, the disclosed method may be accomplished by means of an assembly 100 (also referred to as a "kit") according to the present invention.
The assembly 100 will typically comprise, consist essentially of, or consist of several components.
First, the assembly will comprise a first composition, i.e., a water-based glue or oil-based glue 110 as previously described, which is preferably contained within the interior cavity of the first container 125. Preferably, the container is composed of glass or a polymer.
The assembly 100 further includes a first applicator 120 configured to allow a user to apply the water-based or oil-based glue to the distal portion of the eyelashes. Such applicators are known to those skilled in the art. In fig. 4, the first applicator 120 is shown as small bristles (e.g., similar to a mascara brush).
The first container 125 may include a threaded neck 126 and a cap 121 for closing the container by mating with the threaded neck 126. Optionally, the first applicator is formed as part of a cap on the first container 125. In some embodiments, the cap 121 is connected to the first applicator 120. The first applicator 120 may include a shaft portion 122 (which may be directly or indirectly connected to the cap 121) and an application element 123 at a free end. In this example, the wiping element may be located on the inside of the neck 126. Preferably, the application element 123 is loaded with the adhesive composition 110 in the container 125 used in the first step of the method before passing through the wiping element.
The assembly 100 also includes a second applicator 140. The second applicator is a micro-bristle applicator as previously described having a handle portion 141 and a bristle portion 142.
The assembly 100 also includes a plurality of fibers 130, which may be contained within a separate second container 135 (e.g., a pouch, capsule, etc., configured to contain the fibers and make them readily available to a user).
The nominal outer diameter D of each fiber 131 in the plurality of fibers 130 should be at least 30 microns, but preferably D is greater than 30 microns. In some embodiments, D is greater than or equal to 30 μm, D is greater than 35 μm, and D is greater than 40 μm.
The total length L F of each fiber 131 in the plurality of fibers 130 should be 4mm or less. In some embodiments, L F≤4mm,LF.ltoreq.3.5 mm, or L F.ltoreq.3 mm, and L F≥1mm,LF≥1.5mm,LF.gtoreq.2 mm, or any combination thereof. For example, in some embodiments, 2mm L F 3.5mm, or 1mm L F 4mm.
Optionally, each fiber 131 of the plurality of fibers 130 may comprise a synthetic fiber, such as a rayon or nylon (e.g., nylon 6).
The plurality of fibers 130 will include fibers having one or more colors. In some embodiments, each fiber 131 may be the same color, or may be a different color than one or more other fibers. For example, in some embodiments, a portion of the fibers are one color and a portion of the fibers are a second color.
In some preferred embodiments, as shown in fig. 5, the second container 135 is a container having an outer surface 136 and an inner surface 138 defining an interior space volume within the container, the container having a single opening 137 at one end. The container is typically constructed of a polymer, but other materials may be used. The container may be opaque, translucent, or transparent. Individual fibers 130 may be within the interior volume of the container and are typically loose and randomly placed within the interior volume. The micro-bristle brush 140 may be at least partially inserted into the interior volume of the container 135. Preferably, only part or all of the bristle part 142 is inserted into the interior volume of the container. Preferably, the micro-brush 140 has a handle portion 141 including a cap portion 143. Preferably, the lid portion 143 is configured to interact with an end of the container 135 having a single opening to close the container. This may be accomplished by threading the cap onto a threaded portion (not shown) of the container 135, pressing the cap portion onto or into the open end of the container, or by some other known technique for connecting two subassemblies.
Optionally, the assembly 100 may include a second composition 150, namely a mascara composition, preferably contained within the interior cavity of the third container 165. Preferably, the container is composed of glass or a polymer.
The assembly 100 further includes a third applicator 160 configured to allow a user to apply the mascara 150. Such applicators are known to those skilled in the art. In fig. 4, the third applicator 160 is shown as a third type of brush applicator.
The third container 165 may include a threaded neck 166 and a cap 161 for closing the container by mating with the threaded neck 166. Optionally, the third applicator is formed as part of a cap on the third container 165. In some embodiments, cap 161 is connected to third applicator 160. As with the first applicator, the third applicator 160 may include a shaft portion and an application element at a free end. In this example, the wiping element may be located on the inside of the neck 166. Typically, using the techniques described, a variety of fibers are applied to the eyelashes using G1 and G2, but allowing for a change in fiber architecture. The subjective eyelash extension results were then evaluated after mascara application. The following table summarizes the results.
TABLE 3 summary of results using different fiber properties
It can be seen that with G1 and G2, only fibers with a diameter greater than about 30 μm and a fiber length less than 4mm exhibited lash extension (fiber components 1 and 3). Of the 10 test combinations, 6 resulted in the fibers being brushed off, indicating that the fibers were not fully attached to the eyelashes.
Using rayon #3 in Table 3, the process was repeated using a different combination of the second applicator, i.e., fibers were electrostatically applied to the lashes using 4 different configurations of bristles (high density meaning > 4 bristles/mm 2, low density meaning < 4 bristles/mm 2). After applying the mascara, the subjective eyelash extension results are summarized below.
Table 4-summary of results using different second applicators
Applicator Results
Brush 1-high density bristles Eyelash extension
Brush 2-Low Density elastic bristle Without extension
Brush 3-Low Density rigid bristles Without extension
Brush 4-high Density bristles-additional arrangement Eyelash extension
The techniques are typically used to apply a variety of fibers to the eyelashes, but allow for a change in fiber architecture. The subjective eyelash extension results were then evaluated after mascara application. The following table summarizes the results.
