技术领域
本公开总体上涉及形成一种用于保持比如固体或液体商品等商品的容器。更确切地说,本公开涉及一种预制坯设计,其有助于通过使用通常已知为二步法吹塑机在一个步骤中形成并填充容器。
背景技术

出于环境和其它方面的考虑,现今比以往更多地使用塑料容器、更确切地聚酯容器,最确切地聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)容器来包装以前以玻璃容器供给的多种商品。制造商和装填者以及消费者已经意识到,PET容器是轻质廉价的,并且是可大量再生利用和制造的。
吹塑成型的塑料容器在包装多种商品方面已变得司空见惯。PET是可结晶的聚合物,意味着其能以非晶态形式或半结晶形式获得。PET容器维持其材料完整性的能力涉及PET容器处于结晶形式的百分比,也称为PET容器的“结晶度”。以下方程式以体积分数定义出结晶度的百分比:

容器制造商使用机械处理和热处理来增加容器的PET聚合物结晶度。机械处理涉及使非晶态材料定向以获得应变硬化。该处理通常涉及沿纵轴拉伸注塑成型的PET预制坯,并使PET预制坯沿横轴或径向轴膨胀,以形成PET容器。该组合有助于制造商所定义的容器中分子结构的双轴取向。PET容器的制造商目前使用机械处理来生成在容器的侧壁中具有约20%的结晶度的PET容器。
热处理涉及加热材料(非晶态或半晶态)以促进晶体生长。对于非晶态材料,PET材料的热处理得到妨碍光透过的球状形态。换言之,得到的晶态材料是不透明的,因此基本上是不希望的。然而,在机械处理后使用,热处理会对于容器的具有双轴分子取向的那些部分而言导致较高的结晶度和优异的透明度。取向后的PET容器的热处理,亦称作热定型,通常包括将PET预制坯靠在加热至约250°F-350°F(约121℃-177℃)温度的模具上吹塑成型,并将吹塑的容器保持在加热的模具上约两(2)至五(5)秒。必须在约185°F(85℃)进行热填充的PET果汁瓶的制造商目前使用热定型来生成具有约为25%-35%范围内的整体结晶度的PET瓶。

应当明白的是,定心装置的尺寸和确切形状取决于待形成容器的尺寸和形状。因此,应当认识到的是,在当前所述设计中存在变型。

示例性容器可还具有颈部。颈部可具有非常短的高度,即变成从终止部起的短延伸部,或者具有在终止部和肩部之间延伸的纵长高度。上部能够限定出一开口。尽管容器显示为饮用容器和食品容器,但是应当明白的是,可以根据本教导的原理制成具有不同形状,比如侧壁和开口的容器。
塑料容器的终止部可包括具有螺纹的螺纹区域、下密封脊(lower sealingridge)和支撑环。螺纹区域提供了类似于螺纹盖或帽(未示出)的连接方式。替代实施例可包括与塑料容器的终止部接合的其它适合的装置,比如压配合或卡扣配合帽。相应地,盖或帽(未示出)接合终止部以优选地提供塑料容器的气密密封。盖或帽(未示出)优选地由制盖工业常用的塑料或金属材料制成,该材料适于后续的热处理。盖可还由热感应密封件或另外的气密盖系统组成。
可根据本教导的原理形成容器。容器的预制坯形式包括支撑环,其可用于在制造过程的不同阶段支承或定向预制坯。例如,预制坯可由支撑环支承,支撑环可用于协助将预制坯定位在模具型腔中,或者一旦模制成,可使用支撑环来携带中间容器。起初,预制坯可放置在模具型腔中,使得支撑环占据在模具型腔的上端。总体而言,模具型腔具有与吹塑成的容器的期望外轮廓对应的内表面。更确切地说,本教导的模具型腔限定出主体形成区域、可选的污点(moil)形成区域和可选的开口形成区域。一旦形成得到的结构,下文中称为中间容器(如果需要辅助操作;否则,这将是最终得到的容器),可以切断和丢弃任何由污点形成区域产生的污点。应当明白的是,在所有形成方法中并非必需使用污点形成区域和/或开口形成区域。
在一个示例中,机器将被加热到约190°F至250°F(约88℃至121℃)之间温度的预制坯放置在模具型腔中。模具型腔可被加热到约250°F至350°F(约121℃至177℃)之间的温度。内拉伸杆设备将模具型腔内的受热预制坯拉伸或延伸至大约等于中间容器长度的长度,从而使聚酯材料分子取向为大体与容器的中心纵轴相对应的轴向方向。在拉伸杆使预制坯延伸的同时,压力在300PSI至600PSI(2.07MPa至4.14MPa)之间的空气协助沿轴向方向延伸预制坯以及沿圆周或环方向使预制坯膨胀,从而使聚酯材料大致符合模具型腔的形状,并进一步使聚酯材料分子取向为大体垂直于轴向方向的方向,从而在容器的大部分中确立聚酯材料的双轴分子取向。在从模具型腔中取出中间容器之前,加压空气使主要为双轴分子取向的聚酯材料保持在模具型腔上约两(2)至五(5)秒的时间。该过程已知为热定型,并得到适于填充高温产品的耐热容器。
特别参见图1A-1D,常规拉伸吹塑系统可采用中央外部杆100,其能够接合预制坯112的特征110或其它部分。中央外部杆100可用于在如图1A-1C所示的拉伸吹塑成型过程期间理想地将预制坯维持在预定方位中。这样,预制坯112相对于在其中延伸的拉伸杆被维持在中央,从而确保拉伸杆不会接触预制坯的内部。拉伸杆在预制坯内的接触会导致污染得到的容器,从而需要丢弃或清洁得到的容器。而且,从图1D中可以看出,在一些情况下,预制坯112可形成为从中央外部杆100滑移或变得脱离。通过与中央外部杆100的接触和/或内拉伸杆的污染,这通常会导致损坏预制坯。
参见图2A-2D,在一些实施例中,中央外部杆100可包括用于接合或另外接触预制坯112的定位特征120。在一些实施例中,定位特征120可包括限定出第一形状的突起或凹入部122。具有与第一形状互补的形状的相应凹陷或突起124可形成为预制坯112的一部分。这样,突起部122可明确地容纳在凹陷124内,以在两者之间限定出可靠的连接。在一些实施例中,突起部122的尺寸和形状做成与凹陷124密切地一致,以最小化横向移动(即,在环方向上的移动)。突起部122和由此的凹陷124的形状可以是柱形(图2A和2B)、锥形(图2C和2D)、宽的(图2C)、窄的(图2B和2D)或任何其它提供中央外部杆100和预制坯112之间的可靠连接的形状/尺寸。
应当明白的是,定位特征120可限定出相对于那些已描述方位的反向方位(用类似的加撇标号表示),其中,定位特征120可包括从预制坯延伸的突起部(图2C和2D),以接合形成在中央外部杆100中的凹陷。还应当认识到的是,在一些实施例中,定位特征120可限定出与预制坯的形状或最终容器形状的一部分互补的形状,比如与肋、上推部、狭槽、引导件等互补。而且,在一些实施例中,定位特征120可限定出连续的或为总模具型腔形状一部分的预定形状,使得定位特征120充当给容器赋予最终形状的模具型腔轮廓的一部分。
如图3A-3B所示,在一些实施例中,定位特征120可限定出分别具有约2mm总深度或长度的大致锥形凹陷(图3A)或大致锥形突起(图3B)、在一些实施例中,凹陷或突起可限定出约6.5mm至约7mm的总宽度。但是应当认识到形状和尺寸可以变化。
中央外部杆100可由伺服电机或其它驱动系统控制(例如,机械、电、液压、气压等)。然而,采用伺服驱动系统使得比如经由开启、停止、减速和加速可以改变驱动速率,以使预制坯在不同位置处触摸或另外接触模具侧壁,从而产生较厚或较薄的得到的容器壁厚度。
或者,使用包括例如高密度聚乙烯、聚丙烯、聚萘二甲酸乙二醇酯(PEN)、PET/PEN混合物或共聚物以及各种多层结构的其它常规材料的其它制造方法,比如挤压吹塑、一步法注射拉伸吹塑和注射吹塑,可适于制造塑料容器,并与本教导的原理一起使用。
提供实施例的前述说明仅用于说明和描述的目的。并不意在穷举或限定本发明。特定实施例的单独元件或特征通常不限制特定实施例,而在应用时,是可互换的,并可用在选定的实施例中,即使未明确显示或描述时也如此。同样也可以以许多方式变化。这样的变化不应被认为脱离本发明,所有这些变型例拟包含在本发明的范围内。
Claims (16)
1.一种由预制坯形成塑料容器的方法,所述预制坯在其上形成有至少一个外部特征,所述方法包括:
将所述预制坯定位在模具的所述模具型腔中,所述模具型腔具有型腔轴;
在足够使所述预制坯抵靠所述模具型腔成为膨胀形状的压力下将流体注射进所述预制坯内;
在所述模具型腔内致动具有定位特征的中央外部杆,使得所述定位特征接合所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征,以在所述注射期间防止所述预制坯滑落所述中央外部杆,并在所述模具型腔内维持所述预制坯的外部特征相对于所述腔体轴的同轴性,而不对所述预制坯的所述外部特征做大幅修改。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述定位特征包括突起,所述突起的尺寸和形状做成密切地符合所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征。
3.如权利要求2所述的方法,其中,所述突起是柱形的。
4.如权利要求2所述的方法,其中,所述突起是锥形的。
5.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述定位特征包括凹陷,所述凹陷的尺寸和形状做成密切地符合所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征。
6.如权利要求5所述的方法,其中,所述凹陷是柱形的。
7.如权利要求5所述的方法,其中,所述凹陷是锥形的。
8.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述定位特征的形状密切地符合所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征,以在所述注射期间限制所述预制坯的横向移动或其最终容器形状。
9.如权利要求8所述的方法,其中,所述中央外部杆的所述定位特征包括与所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征互补的形状。
10.如权利要求8所述的方法,其中,所述中央外部杆的所述定位特征的形状做成形成所述模具型腔的一部分,从而同时限制所述预制坯的横向移动。
11.如权利要求1所述的方法,还包括:
在所述模具型腔内致动中央内部杆,以接合所述预制坯,并执行所述预制坯的拉伸操作。
12.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中,致动中央内部杆和致动中央外部杆同时进行。
13.如权利要求11所述的方法,其中,在致动中央外部杆之前执行对中央内部杆的致动。
14.一种由预制坯形成塑料容器的方法,所述预制坯在其上形成有至少一个外部特征,所述方法包括:
将所述预制坯定位在模具的所述模具型腔中,所述模具型腔具有型腔轴;
在足够使所述预制坯抵靠所述模具型腔成为膨胀形状的压力下将流体注射进所述预制坯内;
在所述模具型腔内致动具有定位特征的中央外部杆,使得所述定位特征接合所述预制坯的所述至少一个外部特征,以在所述形成期间防止所述预制坯滑落所述中央外部杆,并在所述模具型腔内维持所述预制坯的外部特征相对于所述腔体轴的同轴性,而不对所述预制坯的所述外部特征做大幅修改。
15.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述致动包括在所述接合阶段之后所述中央外部杆在膨胀方向上的进一步移动。
16.如权利要求14所述的方法,其中,所述致动包括在所述接合阶段之后所述中央外部杆在膨胀方向上的进一步移动。
