Inserts 120 and 122 can be designed to be malleable at various temperatures. In one example, shaped inserts 120 and 122 are heated to approximately (110) degrees Fahrenheit to become malleable. In further examples, the material from which the shaped inserts 120 and 122 are made is selected such that the inserts 120 and 122 do not become malleable at temperatures encountered in typical use and storage.

This is shown in Figure 5 by "breaking down" the layers.

In step 702, glove layers are cut according to the design of the glove. The glove layers may include a glove shell, a glove liner, and at least one intermediate layer. Each layer may include multiple pieces of material. In step 704, at least one thermoplastically formable insert is formed. The formed shape of the at least one thermoplastic formable insert may be selected to correspond to the intended placement in the glove. In step 706, the glove layers are secured in the manner in which a glove is manufactured. The at least one thermoplastic formable insert is retained between the glove layers. In step 708, at least one insert is heated above a threshold temperature until the insert becomes temporarily compliant. The heat source may be steam heat produced by, for example, a garment steamer or other source, or radiant heat produced by, for example, a space heater, heat lamp, stove, hair dryer or other source. In step 710, the compliant insert is molded into a first molded shape that provides a first desired shape to the glove. In step 712 the insert is allowed to cool to a temperature below the threshold temperature. In step 714, the insert is allowed to retain its molded shape after cooling under typical use and storage conditions, giving the glove a first desired shape.
