Abstract

The process is intended for the margin reinforcement, cut-edge reinforcement, cut-edge protection and marginal connection of sheet-like material webs, such as wire mesh, gauze, tulle, tarpaulin and the like, especially sailcloth. In this, thermoplastic strips (4) are preferably laid on both sides onto the marginal region (3) of the material web (1) and, by means of a high-frequency welding technique, are welded together through the existing mesh apertures or through a previously made marginal perforation (2) in the material web (1), these apertures (2) being filled. This allows universal use in many sectors of technology. <IMAGE>

   PATENTANSPRÜCHE

Fig. 1 in schaubildlicher Darstellung den Ausschnitt eines Tuches, beispielsweise Segeltuches mit perforiertem Liek und Liekverstärkung;
Fig. 2 eine Randverstärkung im Schnitt, vor der Verschweissung;
Fig. 4 eine stossende Randverbindung im Schnitt, und
Fig. 5 eine überlappende Randverbindung im Schnitt.

   PATENT CLAIMS
1. Process for edge reinforcement, for cutting edge reinforcement. for cutting edge protection and for the edge connection of flat material webs, characterized in that thermoplastic plastic strips are placed on the edge region of the material web or webs and by means of a high-frequency welding technique through existing mesh openings or through a previously applied perforation in the material web or material webs while filling them Openings are welded.

   2. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that for the edge connection of flat material webs they are arranged bluntly against one another or overlapping one above the other.

   3. The method according to claim 2, characterized in that a sail with a window cutout and a transparent film are used as windows as material webs.

   4. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that the edges are arranged comprehensively for edge reinforcement, for cutting edge reinforcement and for cutting edge protection of the thermoplastic strips.

   5. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that fabric-reinforced PVC is used as the thermoplastic in strip form.

   6. Flat material webs, produced by the method according to claim 1.

The present invention relates to a method for edge reinforcement, for cutting edge reinforcement, for cutting edge protection and for the edge connection of flat material webs.

In many areas of technology that deal with flat material webs, such as wire mesh, gauze, tulle, tarpaulins, sails and the like, edge reinforcements, cut edge reinforcements, cut edge protection and / or edge connections are of great importance. So edges of wire mesh should be covered to avoid injuries; Cut edges on gauze and tulle sheets must be protected against fraying; for tarpaulins and especially for sails, complicated cutting lines often have to be connected absolutely wind-pressure-resistant, windows used and the beds considerably strengthened.

Different techniques are also used for all these different measures, none of these techniques leading to sufficient results with regard to today's requirements, particularly in economic terms.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method of the aforementioned type which can be used in the above sense and universally with the best technical results on a wide variety of application levels.

This is now achieved according to the invention in that thermoplastic plastic strips are placed on the edge region of the material web or webs and are welded by means of a high-frequency welding technique through existing grid openings or through a previously applied edge perforation in the material web or material webs and by filling these openings.

For example, embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. Show it:
Figure 1 is a graphical representation of the section of a cloth, for example canvas with perforated Liek and Liek reinforcement.
Figure 2 is an edge reinforcement in section, before welding.
3 shows the arrangement according to FIG. 2, after the welding,
Fig. 4 is an abutting edge connection in section, and
Fig. 5 shows an overlapping edge connection in section.

The flat material web 1 according to FIG. 1, for example a canvas, is provided with a perforated perforation 2 at its edge 3. This edge 3 is encompassed by a thermoplastic plastic strip 4. The latter can be fabric reinforced PVC.

The permanent connection between this plastic strip 4 and the canvas edge 3 is made in a known manner by a high-frequency welding technique, for example by heating due to the dielectric losses in the field of a capacitor fed with high frequency.

The heating takes place from the inside, as a result of which the material of the strip 4 seamlessly interlocks, penetrates the perforation 2 and fills it, which is equivalent to vulcanization.

This method is quick, effective and universally applicable, as the following further examples show, for example.

According to the technique described above, for example, the cut edge of a wire mesh (not shown) can be defused, the above-mentioned perforation already being provided by the mesh openings which are natural to the mesh. The edges of gauze strips or tulle sheets can also be protected against fraying.

Fig. 2 shows a material web 5 with a perforation 6, which is covered on both sides with thermoplastic strips 7.

3 then shows this arrangement after welding, it being possible to see how the material of the strips 7 has flowed into one another.

4 and 5 show edge connections of material webs 8 and 9, which are again connected to the perforated edges 11 by thermoplastic strips 10 placed on both sides. 4, these edges lie flush against one another and overlap according to FIG. 5.

This technique described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5 can be used, for example, when arranging a window in a sail. For example, the material web 8, the canvas and the material web 9 can be a transparent film.

The above-described embodiments, which can be expanded considerably within the scope of the invention, show an economical, universally applicable method of the type mentioned at the beginning.

Show it: Figure 1 is a graphical representation of the section of a cloth, for example canvas with perforated Liek and Liek reinforcement. Figure 2 is an edge reinforcement in section, before welding. 3 shows the arrangement according to FIG. 2, after the welding, Fig. 4 is an abutting edge connection in section, and Fig. Diese Ränder liegen gemäss Fig. 4 stumpf aneinander und überlappen sich gemäss Fig. 5.  4 and 5 show edge connections of material webs 8 and 9, which are again connected to the perforated edges 11 by thermoplastic strips 10 placed on both sides. 4, these edges lie flush against one another and overlap according to FIG. 5. This technique described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5 can be used, for example, when arranging a window in a sail. For example, the material web 8, the canvas and the material web 9 can be a transparent film. **WARNUNG** Ende CLMS Feld konnte Anfang DESC uberlappen**.  The above-described embodiments, which can be expanded considerably within the scope of the invention, show an economical, universally applicable method of the type mentioned at the beginning. ** WARNING ** End of CLMS field could overlap beginning of DESC **.
