REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Device allowing the observation of an image carried by a transparent support, characterized in that it comprises a light guide formed by a plate of translucent or transparent material lit by its edge, the bottom of which is reflective, the front face of said plate being intended to receive the image to be observed.
2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the reflective bottom of said plate is constituted by a layer of reflective material affixed directly on the rear face of the plate.
3. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the reflective bottom of said plate is constituted by a mirror applied against the rear face of the plate and which is in optical contact with it.
4. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a sheet of transparent material articulated on the front face of the plate and which is intended to occupy two positions, one in which it uncovers said front face, this which allows the placement and removal of the image, and the other in which it is applied against the anterior face of the plate, pressing the image against it.
The present invention relates to a device for observing an image carried by a transparent support and which, therefore, is mainly intended to allow the observation of photographic or radiological negatives or slides, for example.
Lighting devices are known comprising a plate of transparent material lit by the edge. Such devices are intended to make visible, by a contrast effect, patterns presented by the front face of said plate.
The object of the present invention is to use a device of the same kind for the observation of photographic negatives or slides.
This object is achieved by the means defined in claim 1.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.
The single figure is a perspective view, with partial section, of a device allowing the observation of images protected by a transparent support.
The device shown comprises a plate 1 of artificial glass, known in the trade under the name of PLEXI
GLAS (registered trademark), forming a light guide, whose lateral faces such as 2 are perfectly polished, and which is surrounded by a metal frame 3. This frame encloses, along one of its sides, a device for lighting consisting of a neon tube 4 and a parabolic reflector 5.
It should be noted that the means ensuring the lighting of the plate 1, by its edge, could be different (incandescent lamp, luminescent source or other), and that they could also extend along more than one sides of the plate, or even along all four sides of it.
The rear face 6 of the plate is coated with a reflective layer 7 affixed directly on it. This layer 7 could be replaced by a mirror applied against the face 6, provided that the contact is close to the point of actually making an optical contact, for example with intermediate application of Canada balsam.
The device further comprises a transparent sheet 8, forming a cover, articulated by means of a piano hinge 9 to the front face 3a of the part of the frame 3 covering the inner edge of the plate 1. This cover 8 can occupy a position folded down, as shown in the drawing, and, by a rotation in the direction of the arrow 10 around the hinge 9, a second position in which its upper edge, designated by 11, slightly rounded, comes to catch on the front face 3a of the part of the frame 3 covering the upper edge of the plate 1. This part 3a of the frame 3 is chamfered at 12 to receive the edge 11 of the cover 8 while the same chamfer 12 of the front face 3a of the part of the frame 3 covering the lower edge of the plate is intended to receive the transparent film supporting the image to be observed.
When the image is in place in the lower chamfer 12, the cover 8 is raised, applying the image tightly against the front face 13 of the plate 1.
The image, view, text or other, is then made visible by the lighting to which the plate 1 is subjected.
