Abstract

1. Process for manufacturing a multi-layer non-woven textile sheet material (1) with a tufted and additionally structured useful surface, comprising an under-layer (6), a carrier layer (3) which is smooth in its starting condition and carries closed or open textile loops, and a looped textile layer (4) which is structured or patterned in the finished product and which forms the useful surface, in which threads from the under-layer (6) are needled from the rear surface of the carrier layer (3) at least partially through this carrier layer (3), characterised in that the under-layer (6) comprises, or contains, ball-like or vermicular fibre bodies (5) of spherically wound fibres, and that at least some of these ball-like or vermicular fibre bodies (5) are needled through the carrier layer (3) with a change in their original form in such a way that they extend with their ball-like shaped head portion (5') into the looped textile layer (4) which forms the useful surface.
