Description
Process for the preparation of a new sulfonic acid. It has been found that a sulfonic acid which can be used as an intermediate is obtained if the acidic sulfate of 1-aminobenzene-4-benzylsulfone is heated to higher temperatures. It is advisable to work under reduced pressure.
The product obtainable in this way forms a gray powder that dissolves easily in water, especially in the form of its alkali salts. It is used as an intermediate in the production of dyes.
Example: 247 parts of 1-aminobenzene-4-benzylsulfone are dissolved in 3200 parts of about 85% acetic acid and converted into the acidic sulfate by adding 100 parts of concentrated sulfuric acid. After the acetic acid has been stripped off, this is heated to 180-200 ° under vacuum for 8 hours. The residue is then dissolved in sodium hydrogen solution and traces of impurities are filtered off from the solution. The sulphonic acid of 1-aminobenzene-4-benzylsulphone is obtained from the filtrate in good yield by acidification.
