Description
Process for the preparation of 4-chloro-1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid. It has been found that the 4-chloro-l-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid, which is important for technology, can be produced in a technically flawless manner if an alkali salt is added to a solution of the 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid and in the Introduces mixture with cooling chlorine. The result of this reaction was surprising because it is known that free chlorine strongly attacks amino groups in the anthraquinone, so that the latter can even be eliminated completely.
The 4-chloro-1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid is said to be used as an intermediate for the production of dyes.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of the sodium salt of 4-chloro-1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid, which is characterized in that common salt is added to a solution of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid and introducing chlorine into the mixture with cooling. The sodium salt of 4-chloro-1-aniinoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid forms fine crystals.
Example: 10% sodium chloride is added to a solution of 82 parts by weight of 1-amino-2-anthraquinonesulfonic acid in 1100 parts of water. The result is a fine suspension of the sodium salt of 1-amino-anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid, into which chlorine is passed under strong cooling until the sodium salt of the amino acid has been transformed into that of the chloramino acid.
The process can be followed very well under the microscope, as the starting material and the end product show different crystal forms. The skewers of the sodium salt of 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid are transformed into the much more finely divided crystals of the sodium salt of chloramiriosulfonic acid.
