Description

Process for the preparation of an ionoazo dye. It has been found that a valuable red monoazo dye is formed when the diazo compound of 1-amino-2-sulfo-beiizole-5-carboxylic acid is combined in acidic solution with 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid.

<I> Example: </I> 43.4 kg of 1-amino-2-sulfobenzene-5-carboxylic acid are distributed in 500 liters of water and after adding 25 kg of hydrochloric acid 30% finite 13.8 kg of sodium nitrite at < B> 10 '</B> diazotized. The suspension of the diazo compound is mixed with a freshly precipitated slurry of 48 kg of 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid in 500 liters of water. The coupling is ready after stirring for several hours at 35, whereupon the dye is precipitated with Koehsalz, filtered and dried.

The dye is a dark violet powder, soluble in water with a ruby red color, in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellowish red color. It dyes wool a vivid red with good lightfastness and good leveling properties.
