Description
Process for the preparation of callumboriluoride. The main patent describes the production of sodium fluorosilicate. According to the present process, potassium borofluoride can now be obtained in a similar manner, which can be used for chemical reactions similar to that of sodium silicon fluoride if potassium salts are used instead of sodium salts and boron fluoride is used instead of silicon fluoride.
According to the present process, a simple boron-free fluorine compound, boron fluoride and a potassium salt are allowed to act on one another.
As in the main process, calcium fluoride serves primarily as the simple boron-free fluorine compound. However, a different metal fluoride, in particular a different alkaline earth fluoride, can also be used.
Furthermore, hydrofluoric acid can serve as a simple boron-free fluorine compound.
The reactions proceed according to the following formula examples 2 KCl + 2 BFs -I- CaF2 (acid) = 2 KBF4 + CaC12 (acid) KCl -j-- BFs + HF = KBF4 -} - HCl. In the first-mentioned equation, the brackets "acid" indicate that you may work in the presence of small amounts of acid,
whereby the acid serves as a contact substance. It can of course also be dispensed with entirely.
Working with hydrochloric acid is particularly useful.
The potassium salt can be used in solid form. Under certain circumstances it is advisable to carry out the reaction using only a small amount of liquid that is insufficient to dissolve.
Example: 68 kg of boron fluoride are introduced into a mixture of 167 kg of a hydrofluoric acid solution containing 20 kg of HF and 74.5 kg of potassium chloride. 126 kg of potassium borofluoride are deposited. The solution is about 20% hydrochloric acid, which is separated from the potassium borofluoride by filtration.
