Description

Process for the production of stainless iron. The present invention relates to a method for the production of non-rusting iron, e.g. B. stainless steel, by alloying iron with chromium. The method is based on the fact that ferrochrome is formed into electrodes which are introduced into an electric furnace against a bath of molten iron located in this, the electrodes being replaced by the electrodes at the transition between the electrodes and the bacle in the slag resulting Liplitbogen resistance heat generated are gradually melted.

The metal melted off the electrode will gradually alloy with the metal in the bath. Since a slag is always formed on the metal bath, because the metal surface is always oxidized in a melting furnace and the electrode is melted in this lacquer, the metal is prevented from oxidizing.

A suitable example is the following for the production of stainless steel with approximately 15% chromium in the electrode furnace.

The furnace is filled with forged meal in the usual way and the same is melted. When everything has been reached with the help of Koli- lenelektro, which has melted and a suitable temperature, which is reached by regulating the current, iron ore in the form of pieces or bri chains is added in order to obtain the desired carbon content. Then the carbon electrodes are replaced by ferroelirom electrodes.

If the temperature in the metal bath becomes too high after the electrode has melted, ferrochrome, iron or other suitable additive which absorbs heat and lowers the temperature is introduced directly into the bath.

The method according to the present invention can also be carried out in a Sieinens-Martin furnace which is provided with a device for feeding the electrodes.
